So..... I was sitting here, looking at my Firestorm Redoubt and came up with the amazing idea of combining it with a Officer of Fleet and forcing my opponents fliers to come in piecemeal to be annihilated by this wonderful piece of fortification (and expensive..)
Maybe placing a CCS w/ a OotF & MoO, along with some indirect weapons on top of the redoubt (officer can still issue orders from the battlements..still wondering if he could from inside, since the rules only use *aspects* of the vehicle transport rules for buildings)
Maybe 1 or 2 Hydra Flak tanks, and have a humongous 500 point I hate fliers strongpoint, that supports ground units with indirect fire from mortars/MoO/Whatever else?
Any thoughts? ideas?

Would not a simple Aegis Defence line be more cost effective, providing cover, and a anti-flier gun (your choice), that could be fired with the Company commander's BS 5? You could make an Aegis box, park the CCS with the OotF, the hydra or two, and anything else that might fit and make a nice stronghold.

Mainly because the 2 most popular fliers in the game are AV12 and S7 just doesn't cut it.

In the Occupying Buildings section, it says that all the normal Rules for riding in Transports apply, so no Orders from inside Buildings That aside, this actually looks like it might be decent. You could put more Mortars or whatever behind the thing as well. Even at BS2 vs. BS4 (Only the LC has BS5, not the Company Commander), the extra Strength and AP on those things makes them significantly better than a Quad Gun against the higher AV Flyers, and for most Armies, they're far harder to take out.

throw in a couple of sabre platforms instead of heavy weapon teams!

Can't you get an Icarus lascannon for the aegis?

yes, but modelwise it only comes in the bastion kit. if it was included in the aegis defence line as well i believe we would see more variation in AA defences

Also, the Icarus Lascannon is straight up worse against almost every Flyer in the Game. If you've got re-rolls to Hit with it, it's very slightly more likely to one-shot an AV12 Flyer than the Quad Gun is, but in every other circumstance, the Quad Gun is better.
If FW is allowed, go with Hendrik's suggestion and take some Sabres. Those things are insanely good.

The model comes with 2 quad icarus lascannons - is that 4 shots twin linked ?
Also -- Can some models of a unit be inside and some outside?
Example 1: 5 man squad - 2 men inside 3 men outside on top?
What about all models on top of the building - is that considered +4 saves for fortifications?
Example 2: What if you have a 10 man squad and 6 men are on top of the building and 4 are behind it?
(never played with fortifications and thus the questions)
Thanks

- Yep, 4 TL shots.
- No, you cannot split Units like that. They all have to be in the same portion of the Building.
