A grand way to start your first post, welcome to the board I'm always more interested in vehicles and guns than infantry so I'm going to start by saying the gun platform is looking very nice, looks like you've given it a drybrush over the top of the camouflage? Your vets could do with a coat of matte varnish to rid them of their shininess, but if that's how you like them then ignore me also I would give the flesh another highlight to really make it (I hate saying this cliche) pop. Other than that a good solid start. What's next on your plan for this army? More vehicles I hope!

Thank you. I plan on dulling them up I still need to do a little more work to them as you can see. I'll be putting red lenses on the reflex sights touching up the flesh and such. As you can see I'm trying to use a little metallic as possible to give them a more "realistic" feel so instead of the 40k standard silver barrels I went with the muted black. At my LGS everyone has the silver barrels and I've done it too, whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with it I looked at my guys and drew from my military background and said to myself "Self, these are normal men, not super human space marines. They wanna hide from the enemy till the time right to strike so no metallics" I think it looks pretty good
My army is going to be a infantry based army with artillery support, so I'll be adding a couple more basilisks a 2 manticores with some armored sentinels, possibly 3, in there. Obviously some vendettas. I'm toying around with the idea of the hell hound variants but haven't really seen them action yet so I'm not sure. I do know I want some dirt bike riding rough riders though. I have an idea in my head of how I want this army to look and again I'm drawing from my military days in Desert Storm with the dune buggies and bikes we had there
With regards to the vehicle colors I started with a Desert Yellow primer from Army Painter and touched up areas with their brush on paint that matches, then did a circular motion dry brush with a 50/50 mix of chocolate brown for the outer area of the stripes then used just chocolate brown the same way in the middle of the stripes. I then repeated this process with reflective green. After than I did a wash of devlan mud mixed 50/50 with water. After that dried I did a light dry brush of the desert yellow over that then a very light dry brush of ivory. The colors I used are from the Flames of War line of paints by Vallejo except the wash. The affect it's supposed to give is a soft edge camo with out an airbrush and the dry brushing after is to help with weathering later.

Nice start to your army! It's always nice to see the Catachan plastics getting some love, and encountering someone else who can paint them so they look good. I would agree with Cosmic about doing some highlighting on the flesh, but the shine makes them look like they're sweating all proper. Anyhoo, welcome to the IGMB! *Takes a tissue sample from the new conscript so that clones may be produced as required* You'll know why when it happens.*Issues the new conscript with a Catachan Fang and a Catachan hunting cannon* Use this equipment to go and take down that Tyranid Prime that is lurking over there. Upon successful completion of your mission you may be allowed to petition the Munitorum for more equipment.

Scopes on a Shotgun? I'm surprized how awkward the negotiator looks. Maybe its the fact its a Marine-sized weapon being held by a Guardsman? IDK. XD

I love how each model really does look like a proper commando. My one bit of personal advice would be that the silver on the Basilisk parts we have seen (most notably the winged skull) is very heavy on the metallic paint and ends up looking strangely flat. While I do use metallics I agree with the point you raised on them, and that on the sort of scale the model is at, too much and it begins to look a little unrealistic. Personally I would have attacked the winged skull either the same way you have with your barrels, or used a much lighter sprinkling of silver. Maybe you plan to do something with it yet, I dont know! I do my own using grey on the wings and nearly white on the skull as if they have been painted as insignia by the crew.

Yeah, Harker's weapon is a tad off, it could be the silencer barrel I used instead of the normal one. LOL and his back pack is upside down, but oh well he's got a big who's gonna correct him, right? The flesh I did touch up a little but I wanted it to remain kinda "dark and dirty". In regards to the scopes, they are to help unify the army as a whole, all the other weapons will have some sort of aiming assist device on them.
Thanks for the views and critiques, I always accept constructive criticism as a way to help me improve.

Personally I love the job you've done with your flesh. If any more highlighting were to be done I'd do it in a manner to suggest light reflecting on the sweat on the skin but it kinda seems to already do that. I really like the combination of colors for the camo on the pant fatigues. May I ask which colors those are?

So on the first I'm getting 3 sentials and ordering guns to make 10 snipers to use as ratlings. They will be men but they'll be kneeling and such to try to match the ratling size profile I'll be adding Ghillie Suits to them to mark them as true snipers as well. As well as scorpion decals for the vehicles and tattoos. More to come!
As always critique and C&C welcome

Welcome Rayvn! You did a great job on the infantry. Very realistic. But I suspect that's because you use different paint. Is that a combination of Flames of War stuff, Army Painter stuff, as well as good ol' Vallejo?

Started with some of the walls for the defense line, now bear in mind I did get an airbrush last week and these are my practice pieces.
just the primer and camo added
After an Agrax Earthshade wash and some base color drybrushing
and last a side by side to show the difference

Cool. What effects are you going to put under the visors, or is all going to be one color?

I went with just black for the visors but put on a personal heraldry

I am stumped though, the engines on this are exposed and I'm not sure how to tackle them with my trying to keep metallic to a bare minimum. So I'm asking for advice what should I do with them
