Wow, you must have played the hell out of it to have rank 9 sword and shields I hardly get my guys past rank 5 before I've conquered... I mostly let them die

lol it's easy, just put a champion in the army as a trainer the swords, armour and shields just need buildings and now you can re-equip soldiers with better weapons but it does cost you money.

Oh I see, it's a bit different then. Before it was a case of the level of smithy changed your equipment value and there were no champions just fight a good fight and level up.

Smithy does improve the weapons, like Vegna said, but it's not hard to get the smithy up to the necessary level. Champions train the troops up to get max chevrons. Reds

yeah it's alright.
Reds you found it encourages steam rolling now? I've got to the point I can't upgrade my cities and end up with 10k a turn, so I built up armies and just invade. I've only done about 1/4 of the historic objectives but still it's insane.
One advantage is an army managed to get past my front (4 armies in 2 regions missed it!) so had to recruit a merc army. Look forward to that battle!

Yeah, I'm past that "Critical mass" point too. Nearly 20k a turn, 12 full stack legions, mostly of Praetorian Guard or Armoured Legionnaires, and a food surplus that averages between 90 and 100. Hence the War of the Hat I mentioned earlier. I'm basically looking for reasons to invade other territories, and this one tribe had the dual misfortune of not having a non-aggression pact with me, and their leader had a hat I liked, and wanted for my own Emperor. This is my Empire right now. The one territory that isn't an ally or an enemy just broke a defensive alliance with me, but they're still my strongest friend in Europe. Reds

No point yet, the British Isles have nothing to offer me. That map is already out of date, though. I now control all of southern France (the bastards stabbed me in the back), Spain is now secure, and I've conquered Dacia. Sarmatia is next, then maybe England if I feel like it. That would secure western Europe so I could move all my legions east.
I really, really don't want to push into the Middle East, though.

What's the multiplayer like? Is it the same as Empire? (Just army vs army) Or is they a campaign style multiplayer?

Probably a multi campaign like Napoleon and Shogun 2 had, but I haven't checked. CA also has stated they're doing regular friday patches until the game is slightly less broken. No word yet on whether or not they'll fix the magical portal to Siberia that I found.

I haven't checked out the multiplayer either and don't really plan to. Doesn't really interest me on games like this.
I have started a new campaign as the Iceni, not much to say about Britania, not finding them that amazing. Their slings are good. Annoyed they have scorpions and balistas though -_-

Wait until you start getting stabbed by Romans or Greeks. The Iceni, like all barbarians, hemorrhage casualties pretty badly against armored opponents.

Wait until you start getting stabbed by Romans or Greeks. The Iceni, like all barbarians, hemorrhage casualties pretty badly against armored opponents. My main method so far has been to blaze them with missiles. I've started getting the upgrade building to increase the ammunition for missile units and their weapon damage so should help. But I have no idea what the later units are like, can't get them cuz of the bloody unhappiness -_- Oh first crash after 20 hours of playing! switched back to my Rome campaign, now borderline happiness across my empire and only got a food surplus of 4. So unless I steamroll the map and make Gaul and Iberia my breadbasket I think I'm screwed. Gah that crash really hurt my empire. lost a general with mercenaries and 2 fleets that were defending a key town that produced something like 28 food! I really doubt I'd have lost it if I could have fought the battle but the game crashed every single time I tried (5 times!) I've recovered from it, retaken it and all of the attackers cities but still annoying to have lost it. Oh also relised i now have a research rate of 200% and i've finished 2/3 of most of the research and only just on turn 125!

ROME HAS CONQUERED!
It took over 400 battles fought, over 100 settlements captured, and nearly 60 factions destroyed by my legions, but I managed to achieve a military victory.

I just took Arse, took a screenshot for my gaming group. I sent 2 legions and a fleet, they each took a turn in it lol.
But now there's 3 cities I have legions outside of that I can't attack as an ally is blockading their ports. More I play more I see that CA really messed up, why'd they try to redesign the wheel as a rectangle? ~_~
