Hey all, I have an idea for a conversion that would look great on the table, but I am afraid it would be a waste of points due to the changes in 6th... Are armored sentinels with a lascannon truly worthless now or is there some viability left in them?

With only 2 HP, they're kind of ridiculously fragile for their Points Cost. I can't think of anyone around here who's still running them.

Yeah, I keep losing them on the first turn to bolter fire... Glad it is not just me then.

bolter fire shouldn't be able to take them out that easy though, unless they are scout sentinels. i think armoured sentinels can be great, but it will require highly situational circumstances such as the armoured sentinel being ignored by your opponent and him stomping on a firewarrior team, and even then...
now if both sentinel options were cheaper points wise, or they both had some nifty special rules added to them (stealth on both perhaps, with the scout sentinel having another additional infiltrate bonus?) they might become viable units but right now they are both underperforming (points/output wise) and competing with better fast attack choices

Yeah, I haven't seen people losing Armoured Sentinels to Bolter fire, but those go down real quick to Autocannon fire or Krak Grenades in Assaults.
I occasionally still use my Scout Sentinels, because I know they can get in one good round of shooting when they come in from Outflanking, but that's as much as anything because I only own one Vendetta.

Yeah outflanking Scout Sentinels with auto/las-cannons is about the only way they're decent. Like hendrick said, the Vendetta is definitely the better fast attack option here.

I only use Scout sentinels with H Flamers because my opponents generally field ridiculously large horde armies that suffer under unexpected templates. Just don't plan on them being around after your opponents first turn

So are scout sentinels with smoke launcher's worth it? What about a hunter killer missile?

Scout Sentinels aren't great, but they're usable. I wouldn't bother shelling out for Smoke Launchers, they can't afford to spend a Turn on the board and not shooting. I run mine with H-Ks, plus either a Multi-Laser or an Autocannon. Outflank and get Side Armour shots on something, and then they usually die pretty quickly.
I prefer the Autocannon because the longer Range sometimes lets me Outflank onto the emptier side of the board and stay far enough away from everything that my Opponent has difficulty getting to grips with them without diverting serious attention from the main engagement.
Not something I'd take for high-level competition, but for casual Games they're usable.

i've had a go at drop sentinels yesterday and i must say I quite liked them. unfortunatly due to my opponent misinterpretating the tau rules he blasted my multi melta dropsentinel off the battlefield before he could do anything, however, had he not "cheated" like that i'm rather confident my 80 pts dropsentinel (multi melta+HKM) would have damaged his longstrike hammerhead. all in all i'm confident drop sentinels are the most competitive sentinel version out there...

What about chainsaws?

due to squads being able to break of combat if they can't dammage a walker tying units up in close combat has lost it's interest as a main tactic, i would call it situational at best. besides, i don't think we can take the chainsaw as an actuall update?

Just played a 3500pt battle against 'Nids last night. 3xScout Sentinels w/AC and HKs outflanked and took out his squad of biovores in one round of shooting and then diverted a MC who had to turn around from his advance to my lines and use two rounds of combat to kill my walkers. -Just a little anecdotal evidence justifying my value for these guys
