So the Rumour mill continues and the paranoia that Matt Ward may or may not be doing the guard codex...
Lets face it, the current one, its real good, but unfortunately due to later codex's having the codex creep it is lagging. But (although many will disagree) the creep has been stopped, a new codex should bring the guardsmen back to full strength.
So what new models will they get?
I'm not going to talk rumour mill here please, there are threads, I'm going to try and use some logic and look back on previous army releases.
Most forces, not including characters get around 4-5 plastic sets. Usually including something scary, something that flys a tank and a squad... Or a mix and match of the above.
If a tank... Must be a Hydra, this is a fair bet as now you have a load of flyers, even more use for this tank.
If a Flyer... This could be wrong as the Valk is a flyer now... But possibly a thunderbolt or a Vulture? I suppose Thunderbolt is technically Navy and a Vilture is more guard support. But it could be a Thunderbolt.
If Scary... They already have a couple of supper heavy kits, so a big tank is unlikely, looking at the space marine release, they just got three marines in power armours in power armour. So Ogrons, they don't have plastic and the Ogron model ain't been replaced or recast as fine cast. I think Ogrons is a 50/50
Vets... I don't know the chances, but storm troopers and/or Karskin ain't been made into fine cast. Could they, would they do a Storm/Vetran trooper box set? Surly they would, a nice kit, like the sternguard would really pep the launch of new guard.
New regiment... This I give low odds, but you could do a plastic regiment, either a redo of Catachans, this being tied to a supliment book, or mebs a regiment not on the shelf at the moment. I couldn't even take a guess, last time I took a punt they made the 'first born' who wasn't even on the list. A rebirth of Vals, Tals or Mords? Steal leg? Who knows, possibly nick Krige or Drop troops from FW? I dunno. But a new regiment would need a heavy wep box, a squad box and a command box. It is doable.
That's my thinking!

My guess would be Veteran/Stormtrooper box and Hydra (along with a missile variant) box set
Anything else would be a bonus, it would be nice to see a combined kit for basilisk/colossus/medusa or a return of the griffon
I would love to see a vulture kit, but at this stage i would think that GW would leave that for FW only
New Ogryns would be nice, but so would a Psyker Battle Squad!
As for the codex, who know's! Doctrines would be nice, or more unit customisation and army flexibility (IE, Stormtrooper as troops etc)
As for Matt Ward, he's been linked to every codex so far, but from memory he's only done the Iyanden and Farsight supplements, my guess would be Cruddace or Phil Kelly

If any new kits it'll be plastic Stormies, a dedicated Vet box, a Hydra, and maybe a kit for the artillery variants.
If any new units it'll be something with a large base. So far the rumor's are watered-down Baneblades, or a knight titan. Personally I think it'll be a super-sentinel thing, something with a large base (so far the new releases have supported my theory).
I agree with dangerrod on the codex. Matt Ward has been rumored to write everything from GW and he's only written supplements (none of which are incredibly game changing, nor incredible sellers). With the back lash from the sheer power that was the Necron and GK books, and the absolute trash that was the Ork & Goblins book, and that he didn't write the Space Marine codex (GW's flagship line that they put most of their marketing power behind), it looks like GW might be putting the reigns on Mr. Ward.

I agree Mr Ward has a black mark against his name as far as codexes go but supplements are just a bit of fluff for a specific theme within the rules of a codex.
I don't think any imperial forces will get a walker ala wraithknight/riptide due to the release of the Knights.
I reckon they will make a Tallarn CCS, troop and HWS because the guard are so diverse and that will allow them to create 2 supplements unless they go down the route of creating a supplement for Armour.

Guardsmen inside Ogryns piloting sentinels. Piloting Chimeras, that are piloting Valkyries, that are piloting Baneblades, that are piloting Capitolis Imperiali... *George Takei voice* "OHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!"

Well I do not think that we will get another flier. Whilst it is true that most codex releases have come with a flier, this has been for armies that didn't have one originally. With GW it is all about shelf space and the products that they can fit on them. IG already use up a load of shelf space because of the large number of vehicle kits and the two plastic regiments. An extra flier kit just isn't worth it. as we already have that spot filled.
I know that it would be odd but I can see them combining the two Russ kits into one set with three sprues. There would be a duplication in turret and hull parts but it would free up shelf space, which is a trend we see with all of the dual kits coming out. They could bump the price slightly because of the increased plastic content, but they would probably save money even if they didn't as they would not have to stock two kits.
I would not expect to see any direct ports of Forge World products, as I am pretty sure that they stopped doing that. If the rumour of closer FW integration is true, with FW being available directly from GW store tills, then there is little need to go through the expense of cutting a mould for plastic kits.

(-: Are they really direct only now? I haven't been into my GW in a while but I am pretty sure they are still there. I have one of the more flagship GWs though, which is shielded from many of these "one man store" changes that I have heard about. I think that I will go in tomorrow for a game, I need some paint anyway. I'll have a look. Now, I have to decide whether I should take a normal 1500 list or my special 6 russ ABG list. I think that I'll go ABG, I'm guessing that the list will be briken as soon as the codex comes out so I should get some games in while I can.

Yeah, 'Chan HWTs went direct only back in '08/'09, and late last year I was at my local GW looking for 'Chan squaddies to use for riders for my RR project, and the manager told me that they were direct only (and I think the command squad has gone direct only as well).
