Hi guys, as a borderline alcholic I have decided to challenge myself by not drinking for an entire month, in support of Macmillan Cancer. So that's no wine, beer, whiskey, nothing. For a whole month. If you have a couple of £££/$$$ to spare, I'd greatly appreciate a donation, for both a good cause and my own morale. To make this more interesting, for every bottle of wine/beer/whiskey I would buy, either at the supermarket or out and about, I'm going to put the money in my donations pot instead. So they should get quite some money for cancer research! Here's my profile, of me looking very happy with whiskey. Which I will miss a lot. >sob< www.gosober.org.uk/profile/jawd

I have an answer to this. As much as I support what you are doing, no, just no.

I'm surprised he's going to try it through Oktoberfest. Or do you not have that?
Anyway, best of luck.

Good luck with your sober month. Its only 30 days.. Something's been bugging me all day since I read this, and I finally just realized what it was. I signed on to say that October is 31 days.

I dare you to do it through December, including 25th and 31st Well, I have more social events that involve drinking this month than I usually do, so it'll be a good challenge. I have; Fat Freddie's Drop gig on Friday 4th Auntie's housewarming on Saturday 5th A Christening on Sunday 6th A visit to our friends on 11th/12th (they like a couple of bottles of wine with meals, as do I...) A visit to my good friends the weekend after on the 18th/19th, to see his new house The last weekend I'm not doing anything as of yet, so I can stay in and drink water on my own without anyone mocking me It's good to see my alcoholism has left my body and found new hosts for the month too Enjoy!

While I applaud your effort on a personal level, 3ff3ct, I have to say that my reaction to the idea of my not having any alcohol this month is:

Oktoberfest is in October, here. I think there'd be riots if such serious business as drinking didn't make at least that much sense.

I know that Gordon-Biersch starts their Oktoberfest promotion in September, and that it ends before October is out...
In related news: I just had a beer. I think it is lonely, so I'm going to have another beer to keep the first beer company. A third beer may have to check on how the first and second beers are doing at some point.

Hahaha! I went out last night to see Fat Freddie's Drop. The gig ruled, and me and my friends stayed out untill 3am. I drank nothing but fruit juice and water, and had a good old time none the less. Absolutely knackerd today, although no hangover, which is nice. My mates, however, will no doubt be written off for the rest of the day

This is why I stopped drinking 5 or 6 years ago. Also people will buy your drinks for the lift home at the end of the night

Get Innocent apple juice and stick it in the freezer for 45 minutes. You have to empty a bit into a glass otherwise the plastic bottle will split.

Yes, it's true kids, you can have fun without alcohol. Dancing like a madman will drop more endorphins into your bloodstream than alcohol ever could.
