Greetings all!
I just recently started playing IG after a long hiatus from 40k. This past Saturday (10/19) during a league game I finally got a 'w' after two loses. It was a spectacular 1500 pt "Purge the Alien" match against an Eldar Wraith Guard army (first time I have ever faced an Eldar army).
He had a Spiritseer, two squads of CC Wraith Guard in Wave Serpents, a Wraith Lord, a squad of Dark Reapers, a Wraith Knight and a Crimson Hunter.
Vs
My Company Command Squad with 3 Flamers, Astropath and Master of Ordinance in a Chimera (Hull Flamer)
4 Vet Squads with various meltas, plasma, and sergeants with power axes
LRBT with Lascannon and HB sponsons
Manticore
Hellhound with Hull HB
Two Vendettas with HB sponsons
and Marbo (first time I used him)
His Wraith Knight was a huge pain in my side but once my Vendettas came on board he focused so much on those (they did manage to take out his Wraith Lord and a Wave Serpant) that my ground game was able to knock out his other wave serpent (via the Manticore), a squad of Wraith Guard (via the Hellhound and the Company HQ in the Chimera firing their flamers out the top--though the last one was knocked out by a defensive firing lasgun--6 to hit, 6 to wound and rolled a 1 for his armor save!).
Marbo took out 3 other Wraith Guard with his demo charge before being pummeled by the dark reapers (though 100+ pts of wraith guard was worth the points for Marbo). A nice shot by the LRBT took out all but one of the Dark Reapers next turn. In the end, I lost almost two squads of vets (one had only two PGunners left) and my Manticore while all he had left was the Wraith Knight (with three wounds remaining and facing both Venedttas and the LRBT) and a single Dark Reaper (who had two Plasma guns and the hellhound trained on him) when the game ended on turn 5. It was a 7-4 victory for the Imperium! (Though his flier NEVER CAME ON--he rolled 2s every turn for reserves--the Astropath was worth his pts because he brought both Vendettas in on turn two.)
IMHO, this was a perfect display of the firepower advantage the IG has. The amount of lascannons I could bring to bear seriously negated his Wraith Knight--as a high toughness, multiple wound creature is a BIG threat--the IG certainly had the tools to take care of business. Even with the low ballistic skill--I am learning that if you throw enough templates, pie plates, and volleys of lasgun fire at the opponent you are bound to kill something! He will fail an armor save eventually!
We have a 1500 pt tournament coming up in a few weeks...anything I can do to tweak this list? It seems to work pretty well, though the Master of Ordinance couldn't hit anything this game, I figure when I am facing a 60-70 Ork horde like I did in my first game he might come in handy.
Thanks much!
