Hey all, just thought I would get some other opinions on the Colossus siege mortars and the mitigation of their large minimum range. Obviously the best choice would be parking them behind some buildings and intervening terrain, however this is of course not always an option. One thought would be parking a Demolisher or two in front of them, though that is a rather expensive deterrent and wall. An Aegis defense line would of course be a good option giving them a bit of cover and eating up some of that space (I also have a prodigious amount of autocannon teams). Thoughts or suggestions on this for deploying my siege regiment to best effect?

given that the gun itself doesn't count, and only the hull to determine how much of the model has cover an aegis defence line can be used really effectivly to hide your artillery. I always prefer to keep LOS with my artillery to ensure that they hit their target. substrating 3" isn't much, but it can make a big difference! remember that the vehicle doesn't need to stand right behind the aegis defence line. as long as it blocks LOS to the hull you're good.

Chimeras are a good wall to, and cheaper than a Russ, use a platoon of guardsmen 1 pcs 30 points 1 infantry squad w/ autocannon 60 1 infantry squad w/ autocannon 60 Chimera x3 w/ multi laser & heavy flamer 165
Total 315
It's a great shield, it can hold an objective, and they are a great emergency reserve force, you can pull from, It's still a little pricy, but your getting way more bang for you buck and will basically completely cover up the hull of the colosusses, Tony A
