Since everyone in this thread has pretty much agreed that Centurions appear aesthetically awful, it's gotten me wondering; "Why not make one of these mini 3 man dreadnought team out of 3 dreadnoughts?" I mean, they pretty much throw dreadnoughts in for free with any SM box set! Wouldn't this defeat the, "pay to win" element of the centurions as well as allow you to field something that didn't look so stupid? That's the logic I'm throwing out there my fellow nerds. Feel free to take it at what ever value you see. I've already done a little research on this, and the Dreadnought stands on a 60mm base while the centurions stand on 50mm. I'm not seeing the cheaper dreadnoughts or free dreads, on the GW site at least. The dreads are just under £30 each, while the Centurions are £47.50 for three. Although back in the day there was the AoBR dread; you can't get them anymore. Then you'll have to go to a lot of extra expense in getting the weapons to be WYSIWYG. Dreads and Centurions have different weapon loadouts entirely. For example you could take a squad of three centurion devastators, upgrade the chest guns to twin-linked missile launcher and then take a grav cannon with a grav amp on the arms, whereas there is none of that in the dreadnought kit. If you're into customising and really hate the Centurion that much I understand, but I don't see the dreadnoughts being a cheaper option at all.

That plan isn't helped by the fact Centurian Squads are 3-man minimum squad size, so you'd be spending just under double the cost of the original Centurian boxset anyway before extras. I personally think the Dreadknight would be a better alt model, but that would require heavy modifications also.

I thought dreadknights were significantly larger than cents?
The position of the pilot would have to be changed; it'll be hard getting the pilot into the suit. Chest mounted missile launchers wouldn't be a problem, though. Two hunter killer missiles could fit the bill.

I like Centurions. The Emperor like Centurions. I'd rather be given the electric chair, instead of wasting good, decent dreadnoughts like that Besides I only have one normal AoBR dread and he's earmarked for my Wolves and another old metal chaos dread and he's not getting converted either. I'll try to find that video to prove to you how much the Emperor actually approves of Centurions to back up my argument. He even goes so far as to hug an Imperial Fist devastator centurion TWICE in those videos...

@ cheminhaler, I'm starting to see how important your skepticism is toward the end I wish to achieve. These WYSIWYG rules with the chest mounted bolters and missile launchers are valid points. Not fatal, yet valid.
Would you be so kind as to entertain me and take a picture of a centurion standing next to your AoB dreadnought? Let us size them up gentlemen.

Just don't WYSIWYG them. I've left the missiles and thd big shoota telegraph pole off of my Morkanaut. Of course it only has the one loadout.

Actually I don't have any Centurions yet; I'm still focussing on the Soul Drinkers but when I get a squad early next year, for the other leafy marines, I'll post a comparison picture. You are right about how cheap dreads are on ebay and you've given me food for thought. I'm also doing a long term project about Terran corporations who use robots and you just gave me the idea of buying a second hand dreadnought for my Corporation HQ choice. It will be more like the Throne of Judgement, only with a corporation executive in the cockpit, instead of Karamazov. Already have a model in mind for the executive. So, thanks.! I'll probably name a robot after your forum name. The Emperor loving his Centurions. :

I think I like the Emperor better when he can't speak.
