Seeing two painted armies clashing on a tabletop in a battle of wits between two players is all part of the fun of tabletop wargaming.

There should be a third option: Painted, but not by the player.

If a books been out a week or so then I'd be happy with 50:50 lord knows I'm not a quick painter. But if it's been out a while, definitely painted. If you're fighting a unpainted army the game looses a certain something for me.

isn't it a courtacy thing to at least try to paint your models? i know i should not asay a lot since i'm an incredebly slow painter (or rather, not very often feel like painting infantry)but i at least try to use as many of my painted models as possible, only for the cool factor of the game increasing two-fold. (there's nothing as funny as a well camouflaged model actually not doing anything in-game because you've camouflaged it that well!) most of my models atleast have a basecoat on them before they ever get fielded on a table and tanks etc are usually completly painted. if only painting 100 guardsmen was just as interesting as painting those tanks!

Fully painted every time. There is nothing like fielding a fully painted force, and that will give you something to game with while you are getting your tournie list painted.

you mean you won't like it when I use coins with pieces of paper blue tacked on saying what the model is?
nah, really I like 40k for the photo opportunity it gives me to take cool pics of cool models doing cool stuff. (cus its cool).
yeah.
I love this poll... it re-affirms why i love the IGMB!
stuff comepetive games; give me the stubborn ground pounders and heavy artillery and lets see them duking it out with monsterous creatures and xenos warmachines in beautiful colour and detail like they should be!

So you wouldn't want to play a half scale version of 40k with painted MDF cut outs set up like a tactical display?
