Hi,
I can see that people are begining to get an idea of the new Nid codex, akaiyou especially giving some decent feedback.
I'd like to see a discussion evolve here of how tyranids work now.
It seems that shooty nids are more favorable that assault nids and this has something to do with losing iniative when attacking through cover.
Is there a way to counter this problem?
Overwatch certainly isn't friendly to nids as I saw in the game VS cosmic's nids.
The new flyer was interesting though, yet once in assault it seemed to struggle.
Personally I love the big bugs, and am still (one day) planning to make a tervigon focused list - spawning many gribblies to overwhelm my opponent while my other big bugs approach unmolested.
akaiyou also notes the benefit of venomthropes.
are there any other units worth mentioning for their special abilities?

That flyer isn't built for assaulting ground troops. I just suggested it so that it could hide in combat and tie up your autocannons, also if you had failed your leadership test in one of those rounds of combat Cosmic would have had the satisfaction of eating your platoon (plus it looked boss like a bat-dragon hanging off of that building).
I'd like to add to Tred's question to ask anyone who comes across this about Kill Team builds for nids. I'd really like to get some Lictors for to play Kill Team with.

I was reading an interesting article about how over-costed the scythed hierodule forge world model is, game-wise. In fact, he compares it to a much cheaper eldar wraithknight, albeit without the 6th ed equivalent of the 'gargantuan creature' rule. Scythed Hierodule articleSince tyranid models have become bigger over time Cosmic could just use the hierodule 'counts as' an oversized carnifex to keep its points cost down.

its true that stat wise the wraithknight is much cheaper for what it brings.
However - the wargear a wraithknight has is potentially a little less potent than the hellstorm template. (depending on facing hordes or armour), there are 2 choices for the hierodule though - one which is significantly more anti tan at a slightly higher cost.
I would still argue that they should be about 350 rather than 550* or whatever it is.
The same goes for the ork gargantuam Squiggoth, which has the same stats and similar cost to the hierodule, but doesn't have any guns to speak of.
*please note that it isn't 550 and you would need to go and buy some expensive books to find out the real points cost.
(or check the forgeworld downloads)

One of my good mates just had his 21st and scored a Scythed Hierodule from his friends and a shooty one from the family I'll let you know which one causes more carnage to my poor squishy guardsmen in two weeks time after we play our 6500pt battle. Fortunately I'll be brining a Shadowsword and Stormlord to the party so they should size up nicely. (Very excited for it!)

^On said note,
What Leman Russ variants would you recommend for aforementioned battle? I'm a bit hesitant on the Demolisher as by the time he hits my lines it gets swamped and glanced to death after getting two, maybe three shots in :/

I have seen people get a lot of mileage out of psychic power spam with nids- they have a lot of access to very capable psychers that fill other roles on the battlefield as well.
