Yes, it has it's own thread now!
So, who's bought it, who's playing it? What are your thoughts and impressions?
Here's mine...
- North Korea is Best Korea! Seriously, they're an absolute blast. The Red Dragon deck is too, since you can support your North Korea Strela Spam with the really nice Chinese vehicle section.
- Arty will get whacked with a nerf bat, but until it does, bring lots of guns. Your mileage may vary with rocket launchers, though.
- Don't like the new deck system. I miss the availability bump from Cat C and B, and I feel like there's not enough stuff per card. I do like the transport availability thing, although it needs some tweaking.
- I do, however, love Coalitions. Blue Dragon may be my favorite, followed by Commonwealth. Aussie 90's Diggers ftw!
- The Longbow is painfully good if micro'd right.
At some point, I'd love to see if we could get all the IGMBers who play together for a game or two. As far as I know, Boobs, Tread, EmptyHat, Adkenpachi, Melissia, Kommissar Orren, and RT all play. Has anyone else picked it up?
I'll try to get some screenshots tonight.

Is it really that different? If they release them year on year like fifa I doubt it fifa has been the same game since '10

Compared to, say, the difference between sequential Battlefield or CoD games, it's fairly different. It's visually much better, especially the terrain. A lot of the mechanics are the same (which is useful considering it's not the easiest game to pick up), but they're displayed in such a way that it's easier to understand. And, of course, they added naval combat (although they're still working on it and it isn't in the Beta yet), and five new nations to the game and gave new stuff to old factions. They added 600+ units total. They also reworked how you build an army deck and added Coalitions.
Long story short, the gameplay feels like an improved version of ALB, which is good, but they added a boatload of stuff. I think the "One a year" production schedule is more due to the fact that it's a small studio, and they need money, so they need to keep producing games. This is the last wargame, though.

Your loss. Just had a fun game with RT, and a AWESOME game with another guy, then a carnage fest with Orren. It really is great.

Here's the min requirements. You obviously also need a decent internet connection.
OS: WINDOWS XP SP3/WINDOWS VISTA SP2/WINDOWS 7/WINDOWS 8 Processor: AMD/INTEL DUAL-CORE 2.5 GHZ Memory: 2048 MB RAM Graphics: 256 MB 100% DIRECTX 9 AND SHADERS 3.0 COMPATIBLE ATI RADEON X1800 GTO/NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GT/INTEL HD 3000 OR HIGHER DirectX: Version 9.0 Network: Broadband Internet connection Hard Drive: 20 GB available space Sound Card: DIRECTX 9 COMPATIBLE
I've got a pretty muscular PC, so I can run it on it's highest settings, but if you don't mind the graphics turned down. I ran the previous game just fine on a mid level PC from 2010, and I know at least one person is running RD on something from 2008.
This game can have a fairly sharp learning curve, but stick with it, it's immensely rewarding once you know what you're doing. Finding buddies to play with and watching gameplay on Youtube is the best way to learn at the moment. There's also a really good guide to Wargame: AirLand Battle on Steam, and a lot of those principles and tactics apply to RD too.

So, they added skirmish AI to the game (no co-op yet). It's... amazingly insane. You can build a deck for the AI and have them use it. The AI behavior is still a bit derpy in and of itself, but it's improved from ALB. I've been fighting against four Hard AIs with a mix of different Chinese decks, and it's soooo much fun. On Challenger 2 managed to get 86 kills over the course of one game.

Just wanted to post three quick screenshots I took from an earlier game. I was playing the US against four Very Hard ANZAC AI decks, and a pair of F-15Cs engaged a trio of Mirage IIIs head on. From the other direction (the blue boxes on the ground are infantry garrisons) Two Mirages and one Eagle went down. Here are the two survivors. The surviving F-15C managed to turn quickly enough to snap off a missile at the last Mirage as it tired to flee, and killed it.

Amazing screen shots BTW!

I think the F-15E sucks never had much luck with it.
The Longbow is the best unit in the game.

I'd agree that the Eagle isn't the best option in NATO, but what else are you going to do for an ASF in the US deck these days? I don't like the new ASF F-16, and the Tomcat has been exiled to the the Naval section.
Edit: Whoops, got my letters confused. I was using a C, not an E. I do love me some Strike Eagle, though...

Well the C is a different story. The F-15C is still just about the best dogfighter thanks to the AIM-9Ms and AMRAAMs. The F-16 Block 52 is pretty great too as it is cheaper. The Eurofighter is the only thing that comes close. Everyone says good things about the F-4, but I don't see it.
Right now I am using Block 52s, F-18Cs, F-117, A-10s, and F-4 WWs. I have good results. Its nice to use the 52s and have the 18s as the ace in the hole back up to use without the F-14. And the 18 can still be used as a CAS role.
Until we get the F-14 back that is the go to. I am actually kind of glad because he opens up another air slot for us to play with.

As much as I love the Phantom (hence the sig), I can't bring myself to rely on them for any air to air work, unless I have no other choice, like with the FRG. The good news there is if it's a Eurocorps deck, I can rely on the Rafale, which is my favorite ASF in the game (or was until this last patch, have yet to try it now).
For the US, I tend to rely on the F-16C for cluster work and emergency dog fighting, the Strike Eagle for nuking the hell out of everything, and either the A-10 or an F-18 variant for AGM duty, along with the F-15C. I'm not as careful as I should be with aircraft, so I tend to favor taking more per card, even if it means a hit in combat effectiveness.
Then again, I'm mostly playing Commonwealth or ANZAC these days, just for that lovely F-111C.

Bloody Ridge, living up to it's name. It feels like the AI is less derpy after the patch yesterday, but it may be my imagination. Reds

Not yet. They're reworking the AI to accept Naval. My guess is they're release it at the same time they make co-op available.

I am not sure how I feel about this. It looks neat, but feels just like a slug fest. There does not seem to be much strategy involved. It seems like for NATO go 2 sets of hornets and a tomcat and snipe CVs is the way to victory. Otherwise it is just sledgehammer away with missiles and guns (IE who brought more)
Mind you it was only after 2 quick games. We will see what happens.

I don't think the impression will change much. There's some tactics when it comes to screening your heavy ships and scouting, and the islands break up the map enough to allow some broad flanking movement if you're doing a 1v1, but it it almost invariably descends into the pattern of Aircraft ASMs -> Ship ASMs -> Ship Guns.
It's very pretty, but it's really more of a novelty. I have yet to try Riverine and Coastal ships on a land and sea map, though.
