Yea its a big nerf especially because Hotshot weapons are so short ranged. Now you need to be more conservative with your drops. So melta storms are kind of out without an auger device, which kind of defeats the purpose of melta weapons since why not just use a devil dog in the first place if you are going to get that close. I think their main purpose as a unit has changed. The command squad serves as a forward leadership unit suppressing with volley guns and the squads are infantry killers to push things off objectives. All this is right before your main force arrives to drop off your scoring units in Vendettas and/or Valkyries.
I am also toying with the idea of just keeping them as allies versus using them as guard. Cheap deep striking scoring units is a pretty big deal and the orders aren't too shabby.
I think what we are going to see is the rise of the prescience vanquisher and lascannon platoons for our anti tank.

I've got to say though, the loss of rerolls on scatter really hurt them, far more than you would think. It is now super risky to use them with flamers or try to get in 6" melta range. I am trying to work a way around this. Using the valkyrie formation eats up far too many points, and I would need to buy 3 valkyries. Putting a homing device on a hellhound could work, although I think it would be shot off the board pretty quickly. Augurs? Can you get them on those scout sentinels I know you like? You can but there doesn't seem to be a reason to. Augers are only 6 inch range no scatter. A scout sentinel will not be able to get in a good position for them and will die instantly. (as I type this I literally remember last nights game where a scout sent score 3 +6 covers in a row and survived the game just immobilized) Its really Leman Russ in open with TC order, Shortbus Prime in cover with camo net, or hellhound variant behind LOS.

They don't work very well on sentinels, as you need them to show up on turn 2 and the scions not to tune up until turn 3. Even then, you have scout sentinels needing to survive an enemy shooting phase, which is about as likely as a conscript bringing down a carnifex.

Oh, looked it up last night, and TCs and Pask can't do challenges, since they aren't capable of fighting in CC. Still an amusing idea though...

So the Catachan Defense Force is sold out on the GW site. That will show all you non-believers who the best guard regiments are! Incidentally so it the metal demo team pack. I went to a new store yesterday and they had an old beat up pack in pile of other old figures. Got it for 5 bucks! It also occurs to me I now need to go back there and scoop up everything for ebay...

Marbo is still for sale on the GW site, so this leads me to believe we will be seeing a 'Chan dataslate that brings him back at some point.

I always found the whole Chuck Norris thing stupid. A conscript could kill him, just shoot him in the leg.

Even disabled he would still kill an entire army just with his chin fist!
In other news, I've ordered some Ratlings and the Stormy Codex...

I'll post over there shortly. Out of town for the weekend, but Sunday perhaps. -Gunny
