Just to clear something up here, the "Astra Militarum" has obviously upset many a fan, but i can assume everyone will refer to them as IG?

Considering I still refuse to call "Hot-Shot Lasguns" anything but Hellguns? Yeah, I'm sticking with IG.

A rose by any other name is still crushed, callously underfoot on the battlefield.

I'll always play Guard, regardless of any stupid name. Because we all know what Stalin said -- "Quantity has a Qualitus Allus it's Ownum"

It depends where I am. Having drinks with the Lord General? Astra Militarum. In the trenches kicking Orks in the teeth? Imperial Guard.
I don't get invited for drinks very often...

It's so much easier just to say "Guard". I can barely pronounce "Militarum"

Do you go for Mili-tear-um, or Mili-tar-UM? If you do the second one do a *da dum tish* drum motion with your hands when you say it.

I walked into my local shop Friday and Asked the guy at the counter if they had the new Imperial Guard Codex in. His smug response was "you mean the Astra Militarum?!?" I was like whatever ...and like Reds said they are called Hellguns.

They are referred to as the Imperial Guard on the first page of the book, I don't think the name really changed its like calling the space marines the Adeptus Astartes. Like the technical name.

Actually, I'm convinced that the name change was literally a last-minute decision made by the Games Workshop Design Studio when they wanted to trademark the name, but couldn't come up with anything better than "Space Army" run through Google Translate into Latin.
