Greetings all. As we all know, with the new codex comes various changes. One big change that I am a little grumpy about is the removal of most of the artillery options since my current army is built around being an artillery corps, specifically around the Colossus siege mortar. The removal of the core of my army has forced me to take stock of my current army and other figures that have been languishing in boxes.
That being said, I dug out my old Steel Legion figures from the last millennium. I have 6 Steel Legion squads, 11 additional missile launcher teams, a heavy bolter team, a pair of commanders, steel legion Commissar, a smattering of various single troopers, and my recent score of 8 unpainted Chimeras. With the addition of the tank commander I believe it is time to bring this army into the new century. As the paint job is over a decade old it needs to be stripped and redone since my skills with a brush have come a long way. My quandary is this: How should they be based and painted? I could of course paint them in the classic color scheme, but there are so many other options and possibilities.
Any suggestions?

How about basing them for a chem-desert. Pick an unusual colour for the chemical sands, pink, purple, light green, a mix, and paint them up in a slightly dirtied colour t reflect that.

Chen desert is a thought, though I have had other thoughts including sulpher wastes, urban, and winter colors.
