Correct, if they are not listed as being available, you cannot take them
However, as long as they are in the same allied detachment they can in fact mount enter any dedicated transport once the game has begun
Units can also have dedicated transports but can start the game mounted in other vehicles (like the Valk for instance)
So in theory, you buy a squad of vets plus a transport along with a techpriest and a valk. The vets can start the game in the valk off the table and the techpriest can jump into the vets dedicated transport turn 1

Another option I suppose is to shell out for the Imperial Armour 1, second edition, which hasthe Trojan support vehicle for a pittance which is listed as a dedicated transport option for a Techpriest with 6 capacity. Another nice bonus is that if it stays within 6" of another tank, that tank gains the Preferred Enemy: Everything! special rule... I would just have to pony up the cash for the Forge World book to use it.

I *cough* have it, however the event organizers in my area are sticklers about you having, and bringing, any and all relevant books in hard copy for your army.

Sorry if I am not made of money. Yes, I have a tablet, yes I like to use it as it is more convenient than schlepping a bunch of books around... Every book save for a couple here and there (either no longer published or have not YET purchased) I own in hard copy as well. The IA 1 book, for example, has been ordered, however for some reason I typically wait anywhere from a month to 6 months for any order I place from Forge World and I would still like access to it in the meantime.
