I'm seriously thinking of getting an e-reader. I'm considering Kindle, but what I really want is something that can read mobi and epub files, and if not Kindle, can handle a Kindle app. Something with an internet browser would be nice, but not mandatory. Suggestions?

I went with downloading both of the free Kindle and Nook apps onto my laptop.

I'm under the impression, though, that a tablet is generally less expensive than a laptop or netbook. Though I'm considering the latter too; my dad has one and it is invaluable on trips.
Now, a laptop capable of playing Kerbal Space Program, THAT would be good. Dunno if it's even possible, though.

My laptop can handle Kerbal. Though I have both a Kindle and a Galaxy tab. Both have e-reader software on them.

I play Kerbal (when I do have time to play which I haven't recently) on my ~3 year old Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop with no problems at all. I only have laptops, so the solution of just getting the free e-reader applications, rather than buying a separate tablet/reader/etc. to have to lug around, was a no-brainer for me.
I recently got a cheap Dell laptop for the class I'm having to take this summer that will have me commuting to and walking several blocks each day in D.C. I got it so in case I get mugged and the laptop is stolen, it won't have all my personal stuff on it. The new lappy, while cheaper than my old one was (I only paid about $300 for it at my local Micro Center), is more powerful and faster.
