Hey, a quick question. I read in the new codex that the chimera only permits two guys firing out the top hatch, the rest firing lasguns out the lasgun ports. So does that mean that my vet meltaspam can now only shoot two meltas?

Yup! That is why you are paying 10 points more this book!

Screw you comined-arms-tactics! Men and tanks, tanks and men, more is better, and better is more. Thanks for the answer.

Chimera went up in points but vets went down (and lost grenades) so it should be 5 points cheaper, more if you drop a melta to match the firing points.

Ok sure, because the most experienced soldiers in the regiment wouldn't have access to or value the huge advantage that grenades can offer :/ I mean, its not like many modern militaries require their deployed frontline infantry to carry two grenades per pers standard or anything :/ Maybe people just get dumber in the future...

They come with frag grenades in the current codex, in the old one they had frag and krak. You can still pay for krak grenades for your squad, the cost is the amount they dropped in points since the last codex. Or you can get demolitions which gives them melta bombs (and the demo charge) which is the only doctrine that didn't get cheaper.
So its a good thing. You can either have cheaper vets, or you can have vets with the same standard wargear as before but at the same price.

I run 3 melta guns on my mounted vets. I just have them disembark when a nearby enemy is wittled down enough for it to be safe. When they get out, that extra melta is invaluable. It's only 10 points, for a melta that, when you disembark, is mostly likely going to be within the 6" range for meltas to get their special rule
take the 3rd melta. you wont' regret it
