Apocalypse 2014.
Basic plot: The Orks have landed a ROK which has a tellyporta within it, they are using this to bring down the invading ork force.
The ROK is heavily guarded, with 2 Stompa, 2 Mega Dred, 9 killa kans, 4 deff dred, 4 AA flakkwaggons, and full sized mobs of lootas, tankbusters and burna boys.
There are also outrider patrols of bikers, a couple of stormboys with special AA bombs and 2 small squads of commandos.
Each player also got control of an avatar – a model with special rules which represented them in the game.
All the orks needed to do was make sure the ROK was still intact at the end of the game.
The imperium were attacking, initially sending in snipers to secure resource points (RTS style) and when the points scored was enough they would launch their attack. However, if all the snipers died then the orks would win.
The orks were restricted in what they could do during the first phase of the game, only the special characters and the komandos had full autonomy. The special characters could give commands to a single unit to move or shoot but they had to divide their attention between aggression and support tactics.
Initially the Ork commanders used all their orders to get the Stompa’s online and succeeded at this within a couple of turns. Meanwhile they began sending the autonomous Komandos out toward the snipers. (the warbike patrols had randomised movement until they were in range to ‘spot’ an enemy unit, however, the komando’s could signal a unit if they got close enough).
Soon the snipers were looking worried about the closing bikes. They were also getting shot at by Stompa’s. Thankfully, being very short has its advantages.
On the far side of the map things were much the same, the komandos and bikers wiping out one unit of snipers:
And one of the Ork players had managed to reach one of the imperial players and thus began an epic fight between warboss and assassin:
The ork warboss was being supported by a painboss who could restore D3 + 1 wounds. Even to dead orks. This lead to a degree of fearlessness as killa kans began hosing the warboss with skorcha flames knowing that the painboss would be able to restore the burning corpse to health.
Things were beginning to look quite dire around turn 4 so the imperial team decided they would bring in their invasion force. They had managed to gather around 2600 points.
The Infantry Wave of 30 (once bought this could re-spawn for free, and included a commissar-priest)
Leman Russ Battle Tank Squadron
Sentinel Formation (9 Sentinels: 3 AC, 3 ML, 3 LC)
Shadowsword with AV14 side armour
40 Tactical Marines with Techmarine
…. However, The orks had a force of around 4200 deployed. The Orks also had a version of overwatch which allowed them to fire on targets as they arrived if they had not fired in previous turns. This fusillade was quite ineffectieve against the vehicles, scoring only a few hull points on the shadowsword and on the sentinels.
The infantry were a lot worse off though:
However, this had drawn fire from the snipers in the corner enabling them to continue scoring points for the imperial team.
The Warboss vs Assassin fight continued, with more kans and dreads joining all the time:
The Marines came to the assistance of the Assassin as he was slowly taking wounds while the Warboss kept coming back to full health:
During the Imperial shooting, the Red Stompa took a structure point (and despite all the 3 meks, 1 big mek, 1 mecha dread with fixin klaws and the grot repair krew it went un-mended). The overspill from the blast eradicated the stormboys with AA bombs. The leman russ managed to put a structure point of damage onto the silver stompa and took out the AA flakkwaggon in front of it too.
One of the other flakkwaggons was taken out by the assassin near the river while the sentinels spread their fire across a number of targets, putting out a few hull points of damage to the stompa and another AA flakkwaggon.
In close combat the Assassin by the river had faced off against a bike squad and komando unit and had cunningly used their momentum to send them hurtling into the river:
Meanwhile, the other assassin was getting pushed back under the weight of incoming kans, the marines only able to look down at the carnage below. However, they were able to identify the painboss who was healing the warboss (bravely hiding behind the drop pod) and took aim…
(The focus of the shooting had been the Ork AA units and the Imperial forces felt satisfied that they had eliminated most of the threats to their airbourne force in reserve: 3 valkyrie with melta vets, 1 vendetta, 2 stormtalon and 1 storm eagle).
However, the Orks next round of shooting proved to be far more effective… Choosing not to set anything but the AA guns to overwatch the Ork army moved into position (minor disputes between ork generals occurred as the red stompa moved from its defensive position to engage the shadowsword and the irksome sentinels in close combat)
The shadowsword crew smiled as this opened up sight lines to their target… and began charging its next shot, the engines roaring, the volcano cannon’s rising hum reaching a crescendo…
…The Stompa rattled off its gigashoota into the ranks of the sentinels, a hail of shots exploded all around them but few caused damage (or even hit!). Then the beast turned to face the shadowsword, aiming its DeffKannon it chuckled as it lobbed the massive shell, the recoil shuddering through the mighty structure.
The shot scored a resounding hit, destabilising the core of the vocano cannon, suddenly overloading into the internal ducts and flooding the cooling chamber with superheated molten energy.
An enormous explosion was heard across the battlefield and as the dust cleared there was very little left, the bridge, the buildings, the sentinels and the shadowsword had vaporised in an apocalyptic explosion… the only thing left alive in the area was one warbiker clinging on to the imperial resource point.
This was just the beginning of the fun!... Mork and Gork were smiling this day as the lifta-droppa picked up and threw a leman russ at the imperial assassin by the other bridge, squashing him neatly under the massive behemoth.
Elsewhere, tanks exploded, marines died, guardsmen were cut down and orks laughed…
Then came combat… Deff Dreds engageds with Sentinels and began tearing pieces from the imperial walkers, the crew inside horrified asd their vehicles crumpled easily beneath the mighty ork klaws
Then came the next wave of Imperial reinforcements, this was much reduced as they had been unable to score effectively – and had spent a lot of resource on their initial assault.
However, their trump card was affordable... The skies lit up with the flare of massed jump packs hurtling from the thunderhawks high above. A force of 40 assault marines with melta bombs were incoming, set on their objective of the ROK. Only a few infantry and walkers stood between them and it
They were accompanied by a vendetta – this sighted the Stompa’s rear armour and the gunner placed his finger on the trigger… while at the same moment the ork AA turned to face the oncoming craft unleashing salvo after salvo of pent up frustration (having seen all the other shooty boys firin’ it was finally their turn)…
The fuel in the vendetta’s wings exploded, ripping the wings from each side.. the remaining structure tore through the sky, corkscrewing wildly over the battlefield before smashing into a space just clear of the marines.
Undeterred the Marine commander lead the assault forward into the breach:
All they had to do now was clear the burna boys from the route and charge the ROk with their melta bombs.. VICTORY WAS IN REACH
A fusillade of pistol fire saw most of the burna boys slain, the rest barely recognising what was happening heard a mighty roar from the marine commander and turned their burnas to present a wall of flame at the incoming marines…

Chaaaaarrrge!:
However… (... random charge distance...) (...a re-roll...) (...a hopeful flick through the rules...) (... ... ...)
While the strike had been an initial surprise.. the Red Stompa (Chompa Stompa) had noticed and turned to see what was happening…
The Gigashoota rattled off shot after shot as the beast turned, the Deffkannon fired a massive shell into the mariens sending many flying in pieces across the battlefield.. Then the second Stompa (Mega Wrekka) had his fun.. firing shot after shot into the marines…
The Mega Dred also realised what was going on.. turned and clambered into the fray..
Surrounded by kans, dreds, mega dreads and stompas…
The Marines never reached the Burna Boys… let alone the ROK…
The commander fought as best he could.. yet the ending was inevitable…
And in the shadows… the other assassin fell. Finally the painboss and warboss had taken down their foe. The burning ruins and dead vindicare lay amidst pieces of marine and smouldering ork.
