So been playing a lot of Maelstrom Of War missions now and thinking about going to a Mech army list.
With that in mind is it more difficult to control objectives with a Mech army or not?
My Mech Army looks like this (1750):
HQ: -Pask Vanquisher /w Lascannon (hull) and Relic plating -LRBT -LRBT
Troops: -Vets in Chimera (2 Plasma) with Priest -Vets in Chimera (2 Plasma) with Priest
Fast: -Vendetta
Heavy: -Wyvern -Punisher w/HB Sponsons & Hvy Stubber -Demolisher
Fort: -Vengence Weapon Battery w/ Quad Icarus Lascannons -Vengence Weapon Battery w/ Quad Icarus Lascannons
All LR tanks have camo and recovery gear.
My thoughts for primary tactics:
a. During deployment I can place 2 Vengence Weapon batterys on 2 objectives in my deployment zone. This will control 2 of the objectives. b. My Troops can run from objective to objective where needed. And possibly get linebreaker. c. Demolisher and Punisher will be moving forward to objectives or get in range of enemy units. d. My HQ (Pask squad) can sit back and pick off high threat units and also control objectives if needed. e. Vendetta will be used to get across the table and high threat also (line breaker if needed).
Secondary tactics:
a. Punisher & Vets deal with Infantry b. Vengence/Vendetta deal with Flyers/Flying MC's. c. Pask/LRBT deal with high AV d. Demolisher - just kill something before it goes BOOM.
Any thoughts??

I think mech guard will be very viable for marlstrom of war missions. All of our vehicles can score and it's harder to kill them now, especially with camo netting and relic plating. I have yet to play a 7th edition game but here's my two cents.
The priests in the vet squads aren't really doing anything. The squad is in a vehicle so I won't be testing for moral anyway, and they are veterans so they probably won't be assaulting anything
I don't play with any fortifications, so I can't really help you out there. However aren't you only alowed to take one fortification per detachment? Also can fortifications now score?
The punisher is also a lack luster tank unless driven by pask. The warvyn is much better for anti infantry so I might suggest a second of those an maybe switch you punisher to a demolisher.
Other than that I think this list can really kick some butt.

Personally, I'd use mech platoons rather than mech vets for taking objectives, especially since vehicles can now score. Also, when you think about it, mech platoons now have access to twice as many scoring units as they used to.
If you drop one of the vet squads, the priests, and the Punisher, you could replace them with a sizeable mech platoon, and quadruple your scoring footprint in the process.

Well -- I ran my list last night against a Blood Angels/Dark Angels army and I didn't do so well.. Lost 6-2 VP's. The Fort just isn't a real threat and didn't do anything but get destroyed (opponent shot the weapon and took it out). I made some tactical deployment errors that cost me some objective points. The tanks held up very well. Lost 2 tanks (Chimera and Demolisher). Camo on tanks worked well. Never used the Recovery gear so I'm dropping that to see what impact it may have. My LRBT wiffed the entire night.. 4 rounds of shooting and only 1 round hit anything, 3 rounds totally missed on scatter.
So I've changed the list:
Mech V2 (1750) HQ: -Vanquisher w/ Lascannon & MultiMelta Sponsons and Tank Commander (no Pask) + Camo -Vanquisher w/ Lascannon + Camo -Vanquisher w/ Lascannon + Camo
Troop: -PCS HWT ML w/ Flakk + Taurox -Squad 1 HWT ML w/ Flakk + Chimera -Squad 2 HWT ML w/ Flakk + Chimera
Fast: -Vendetta
Hvy: -Wyvern (squad of 2) + Camo -LRBT (squad of 2) -LR Demolisher
Gonna try this list out to see how it does.

I like your new list a lot better, I'd try to fit pask in if you could though. He let's you reroll misses and armour penetration rolls plus gives your squad prefered enemy. I might suggest switching your HQ to look like this if you can find the points too.
Pask in vanquisher with lascannon Vanquisher with lascannon
Tank commander in vanquisher with lascannon Battle tank
That way you have the possibility of firing at more targets with tank orders, and it gives you a second BS4 vanquisher.

I didn't think you could take 2 tank commanders but it does appear you can.
The problem I have with Pask Vanquisher is this: -Pask gives you preferred enemy that lets you reroll misses on hit and reroll wounds (for the unit) but then crack shot also gives you reroll hit so that's redundant.
I think Pask Punisher is much better for effectiveness of Pask with his crack shot.
Tank commander warlord trait does give you a 1/3 chance of possibly getting preferred enemy by itself.
BUT I do like your idea and may consider it.

How do you only have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the warlord trait? Did I miss something in the codex that excludes certain warlord traits for the tank commander?
Edit: just found it never mind. Also if you are using a combined arms list you can reroll your trait giving you a better chance of getting it.
