So thanks to a member of this board who shall remain nameless until he is willing to identify himself, I am now in possession of a 1500pt Space Marine Army that is to replace the one my ex destroyed.
Fluff wise they are a chapter created in replacement of my old chapter by the High Lords of Terra.
I thought I'd make this project log to keep track of everything.
First, some Fluff:
The Knights Reborn
Founded: 738 M41
Activated: 813 M41
Fortress Monastery: The Forgotten Flame, pre heresy star fort in orbit around planet Ardia, close proximity to The Dominion of Storms.
Chapter Symbol: The Pheonix in flight.
Chapter Colours: Purple battle plate with Grey Helmet and Pauldron (trim)
Chapter Master: Lord Arrus the Risen, The Flame Knight
Librarius: 7 members. None act as Chief Librarian, but rather act as a council of sorts, advising the chapter master through their spokesperson once a consensus has been reached. The current representative is Epistolary Nostramus.
1 Epistolary
3 Codiciers
4 Lexicanium
4 Acolytum
Reclusiam: 6 Chaplains, one Master of Sanctity
Forge: 13 Techmarines, two of which are still training on mars. Higher than normal proportion of servitors to compensate for the time being.
Apothecarion: 8 Apothecaries, only 5 of which are assigned to a company (battle companies)
No Veteran Company. Still Ten companies but 1st company is battle company.
Fleet: Three Strike Cruisers, various escort class vessels fitted for planetary strikes, transport craft, carrier vessels and destroyers.
Recruits: The Knights Reborn recruit from the feudal world of Ardia. The legends of the Silent Warriors who descend from on high to stride through battle, untouched by arrow or blade are common amongst the Ardian people. Whilst most of the world is populated and ruled over by feudal warlords, the northern wastes are completely uninhabited. As the legends go, any brave young warrior who wishes to prove himself to the Silent Warriors must travel to the wasteland and find The Heart of Flame. It is a great shame on the family if the first born son does not attempt to complete this journey.
The northern wastes are inhabited by ferocious indigenous creatures called skreechers. Standing between 6-8 feet tall, the skreecher is akin to a bipedal bear, huge claws protrude from it's distended paws, it's hulking mass covered in thick black fur. It's mouth is as fanged and viscous as any beast, but it is it's distinctive screech that gives them such a fearsome reputation. Highly psychic creatures, but completely feral, their screech can paralyse a man from a distance, shatter his bones from 30 yards and pulp flesh and burst organs from close range. Along with the dangers of dehydration, being poisoned from the vegetation, falling to death from one of the many craggy cliffs that must be climbed and countless other hazards the journey north is not for the faint of heart.
If they survive the wastelands and are able to use their wits to find it, the pilgrims will come across the ruins of an ancient city, it's walls crumbled and people killed in wars long forgotten. The city is filled with traps and all manner of beast. Most die in the labyrinthine corridors and streets of the city and those that survive are usually starving, tired and bloody. For those that work their way to the centre of the city will come across a great pyre in a courtyard of grey marble, the wood is soaked in accelerants and all that is required is for the pilgrim to light it.
Once lit, a giant clad in jet black armour, his helm the face of death, emerges from the shadows and takes the pilgrim to the fortress monastery to begin the tests that will determine his future.
Scouts: Once they have been tested for compatibility with the gene seed that will forge them into a space marine, the successful supplicant begins the rigorous training, surgical and spiritual regime that will lead to their rebirth as a space marine. They are provisionally inducted into the chapter cult, as an initiate.
The initiate is taught about the nature of the space marines, the Emperor of mankind and the wider imperium, as well as the multitudinous threats to mankind. As his training progresses an initiate will be assigned to a scout squad where he will learn the skills of warfare on the battlefield, under the tutelage of a seasoned scout sergeant.
Once an initiate is deemed to have sufficiently proven himself in the crucible of war, he will undergo the Trial of Rebirth. The initiate is taken to the twisting catacombs beneath the fortress monastery, stripped of all possessions, he is left naked and alone in the freezing dark. He will face many trials in the catacombs and he must overcome all of them in order to succeed and emerge victorious. Though it may take weeks, and though he will have been pushed to the limits of his mind, body and soul, the successful initiate will eventually emerge as a full battle brother and be implanted with black carapace.
Battle Brothers: Once raised to the rank of battle brother, the warrior sheds his old name, being reborn with a name divined by the librarian council. To the initiates he is now addressed as "master". To the rest of the chapter he is "brother" with all the honours and duties that come with it. He will serve in a devastator squad, an assault squad and eventually a tactical squad. After many years of service, or through acts of extreme heroism, he will be promoted to the rank of Knight.
Knight: To become a knight-brother, the marine must possess many decades or perhaps even centuries of experience battling in the emperors name. Occasionally, a battle brother will distinguish himself through acts of valour of tactical brilliance and be promoted to knight before his time, though this is rare.
