A dreadnaught going wulfen is a fairly decent idea.. Still doesn't explain to me why it's head now pops through the front of the dread..
Neither does it explain why this particular dread was given Xenos heresy for weapons when no other dread in the Fang seems to possess it.

It's not the ice part that's a problem. It the xeno-tech heresy part. Also, it's the super-derpy description part. And that's the greatest heresy of all. Like when the Imperium suddenly started using C'tan phsse blades? Wasn't that in second edition, though? IIRC Codex Assassins was released before the Necrons even had an actual codex (they were just a handful of random units in White Dwarf with turrible metal minis), much less C'tan being actual fieldable units. A dreadnaught going wulfen is a fairly decent idea.. Still doesn't explain to me why it's head now pops through the front of the dread.. Perhaps Murderface used his murdering face powahs to chew his way through the visor armor? <.< >.>

I'll have to go back to my Codex Assassins (if I can find it) to double-check, but I'm fairly confident that the Callidus' blade has always been referred to as a C'tan phase sword/blade. The Imperium/Inquisition/Officio Assassinorum/Ad Mech apparently knew that the C'tan had been a thing at some point prior to the rise of humanity (from xenoarcheology studies, probably from a site discovered by a Rogue Trader), and that the metal was somehow connected to their technology, and that it was really good at negating all types of armor and force fields, but the connection to the Necrons hadn't been introduced into the fluff yet as the 'Crons were still being fleshed out from just some random piratical robot skirmishers to a full-fledged race in 40K.

I have it literally within arm's reach. It came out in 1999, and it lists a C'tan Phase Sword as the wargear. In a quick skim, I don't see any actual description of what the sword is, fluff-wise.
Then again, the Officio Assasinorum has the sort of leeway to use that kind of stuff.

Inquisitors, marines, navigators and Rogue Traders all use Jokaero technology freely; from micro-fly camera systems (in the Inquisition War series by Ian Watson, in book 1) and digital rings loaded with a variety of ammunition, which feature throughout the game and books.
If any branch of the Inquisition wants to take the Wolves to issue for using xenos tech, they're better off looking at their own xenos-loving agents first. The blood cost will also be significantly less than challenging a well established chapter that ignores the codex astartes restrictions.

inquisition don't mind people using Xenos artifacs so much, heretical artifacts however are a different story.

Depends on the attitude of whichever Inquisitor(s) who becomes aware of any given use of non-sanctioned tech is/are towards said use... Extreme Puritans might have just a "wee bit" of an issue with it and burn the user(s) at the stake, while Extreme Radicals would probably kill the user(s) (so they could take the tech for themselves)...
Of course, since the Wolves have basically told the Inquisition to go F themselves (Logan Grimnar was "slightly miffed" about the fallout after the First War for Armageddon and how the Inquisition treated all of the non-Astartes loyal human survivors in order to keep word of what happened from leaking out) so yeah, I guess they don't care too much about strapping magic-unmeltable-alien-ice claws onto a Wulfen-nought and letting Muderface do his thing (and apparently they only thaw him out and point him at the enemy when situations are supah-dire)...

Its not warp magic - its enchanted alien ice that is unbreakable. In a way it sounds similar to eldar wraithbone.
The Wolves have an instinctive hatred of warp magic in any case, if the ice was corrupted by the Chaos gods they wouldn't have allowed it into their armoury.

They probably found it under a visage of the Emperor, in his wolf aspect, so that makes it cool.

ERMG... The Stormfang has what is essentially the same piece as the Land Raider's back cabin/engine bulkhead bit as an internal hull brace right behind and below the cockpit. Which means that in the gunboat configuration with it's transport 3 space (and rear ramp that's also behind and below the cockpit but set back by an inch or so) there are three Space Wolves crammed into an internal combustion engine...

No. The 16 model transport capacity variant is the Stormwolf assault boat, and the Space Wolves ride inside the part of the model where the big Helfrost cannon is on the Stormfang gunboat. In the Stormwolf the bulkhead makes sense, as it's got an assault ramp, so the rear is taken up by the power stuff for the gun turret behind the cockpit...

Hmm... I sense potential to bling out the Stormwolf.
Its engine pods are connected to the hull via a wide open conduit, and the pods are hollow inside running back through to the jet nozzles. There is a small compartment in the hull where the pods are connected that is under the Helfrost turret weapon (which is essentially a Razorback turret, and is removable from the model), which leads me to believe that it wouldn't be terribly difficult to get some blue LEDs to put right in front of the jet nozzles, and then run wires into the hull space under the turret where I can set up a battery and a switch. Since this portion of the hull is separated by the Land Raider style engine bulkhead I mentioned earlier, the battery and switch would be eminently concealed from the troop carrying compartment (which can be seen should the assault ramp not be glued in place and allowed to open and close)...
I may haz to do a Radioshack trip this weekend.

That's insane; you'll have to fur the inside compartment and put shields on the walls if there's space. And a houndmaster kneeling, with his pet fenrisian.
And a shrubbery!

Excellent. I got my grubby mitts on Codex Space Wolves this morning. An initial read through: The Wolves are spoiled for fast attack options, with 9 choices to choose from (although the Rhino, Razorback, and Drop Pod are included amongst them). Logan Grimnar (Lord of War choice) can be taken as a footie, with the option to upgrade to the Hoverboat. The Hoverboat has a 4+ invulnerable, 12" movement, counts penetrating hits against it as glancing, and confers an additional 4 S5 AP- Rending attacks at I5 (and can be an additional Pile-in) in the assault phase (but Logan loses deep strike if he's riding it).

had a idea, get two of these and a storm talon. use the storm talon as the central hull and have one of these either side to build something akin to a forge world assault ram, or buy an assault ram which might be cheaper lol

These ...gunship things have skyhammer m/l for FREE upgrade to the heavy bolter (because screw you, storm talon). On top of two stormstrike missiles and the Helfrost Destructor. (Points cost is almost as much as a land raider...)
Like seriously; how is 3 twin linked s5 shots with a 36" range even comparable to three s7 shots with a 60" range?

The Helfrost rules are also pretty insane for shooting at anything that is multiwound with that whole "take a toughness test for each unsaved wound, and if any test fails the target is dead."

Ouch. Its a Strength test so no invulnerable saves.
Maybe I'll get a venerable dread at some stage and rotate it into my list with the helfrost cannon. I'm not bricking it.

strikes me with centurions that apparently they are still at the top of the GW best sellers list, are people just buying them because they are in some way competitive or are they just lacking brain cells? id much rather have 3 dreadnaughts lol

I've always read 'best sellers' as 'GW would like you to buy'. I doubt it is based on anything other than marketing.
