G'day all,
So my friends and I are thinking of doing a round robin and have decided to really make an effort to enhance the tournament by bringing in a few house rules.
One of the rules includes the compulsory inclusion of a named Junior Officer or Junior NCO (IG Platoon Commander, SM Assault Squad SGT, Eldar Exarch etc.) who gets buffs if he survives games, achieves objectives, kills certain units and so on. We are each required to give our Junior Officer/JNCO a background story and a moderating player (someone who isn't playing that particular game) will set their specific objective prior to each game. We are still deciding what the rewards may be or whether or not they lost each time the character dies. Has anyone had any similar experiences??
The second house rule, and hence this thread, pertains to the creation of your individual warlord. In this case, LT COL Moridius Beaudouin. So far I've got a few ideas for him and would really appreciate any advice you may have with regards to how to set a points value to him or maybe some other fun rules. So lets begin!
BEGIN PROFILE:
LT COL Moridius Beaudouin
Background
-LT COL Moridius Beaudouin currently commands the 174th Regiment from Frigor Prime. Heralding from Beaudouin House, Moridius had a privileged up-bringing as a member of one of the most powerful clans on Frigor Prime. The Beaudouin's vast success can be dated back to their efforts as one of the planet's founding families, quickly establishing a ruthless trading empire backed by a formidable 'protective force'. Indeed, the Beaudouin House has just as many enemies as it does those who fear them.
Where Moridius' brothers followed the family tradition as trade mogul's or taking superfluous, honorary positions in the family's private army, this aspiring son had greater ambitions than his siblings and sought power through joining the PDF, hoping to achieve the position as Planetary Governor just as the presiding PG did. Despite hefty bribing and family politics, Moridius entered the PDF as a lowly LT COL and has been bitterly consigned to that rank for the entire duration of his eight year service. For the rival families of Frigor Prime do not look fondly upon such purchases of rank, preferring the noble pursuit that rewards skill and experience.
In fact, even without his reputation being tarnished by such an unsavoury entrance into the PDF, LT COL Beaudouin's career progression has been stalled by his own questionable tactics. His brutal and rather unimaginable application of sheer force to achieve the objective reeks of his family's reputation. His reckless squandering of resources persists almost as if he believes he is still working for the Beaudouin House and his jaded disrespect for his so-called superiors has seen him reach his glass ceiling all too soon.
Whether he be 're-allocating' his fellow regiment's resources to his own pool, bypassing tactical boundaries in order to claim significant objectives for himself or even calling in artillery on his men's own ambush positions so as to ensure the complete and utter annihilation of the enemy, LT COL Beaudouin is distrusted and loathed by both his superiors and subordinates. Most notoriously known for the Halgor Incident', LT COL Beaudouin deliberately compromised the extraction site of an Elysian Light Recon Regiment in order to gather Ork Warboss Daskit's Skulltakerz warband in one location for a final pitched battle. Instructing the LT COL Halgor to remain in place and wait for extraction as previously planned, Beaudouin promised help was on it's way. This help came in the form of reinforced divisional artillery. First falling amongst the rear echelons of the Ork attack, LT COL Halgor's relief soon turned to terror. No sooner had his signalman transmitted over the crackling vox net that the assault had reached their lines that the indirect firing started landing amongst the final defensive position. Terrible casualties were being sustained on both sides as the falling shells indiscriminately claimed the lives of both greenskins and humans alike. This continued until the sounds of battle faded and all that remained was the unforgiving burst of artillery. Overhead a reconnaissance Valkyrie Squadron confirmed no signs of life and the fire mission was finally terminated. An investigation was undertaken with the findings placing LT COL Halgor (deceased) responsible for incompetence to coordinate the artillery fireplan and for failing to arrange an alternate RV. Shortly after the findings were released, the investigating officer retired and is rumoured to be residing in a vast manor once owned by the Beaudouin Family. The Elysians have sinced removed all support from operations involving Frigor personnel.
Much to LT COL Beaudouin's delight, a close family friend has recently been appointed as his Battle Group Commander. Finally faced with the very real prospect of realising his dream, Beaudouin has renewed his vigour in an attempt to seal the first of many promotions. Indeed, the upcoming Kilmorian Campaign may be his last chance...
END PROFILE.
Yeah, he's Chenkov's eviler and more powerful twin brother =D hahaha
He really opposes my own conservative command style (to give you an idea, I painstakingly model each one of my soldiers and tanks and my mates will tell you how uspet I get when they kill my troops in particular...which is not a good thing when you consistently field 120+ models in a game ) but after a few games when I REALLY wanted to call in artillery on ongoing combats (read enemy terminators irresistibly bunched up and 'hiding' in combat) I came up with the idea of LT COL Beaudouin.
So! Let's finally get to the rules aspect of him.
Composition:
-Company Command Squad:
*LT COL Beaudouin
Favourite son of the Beaudouin House, ruthless commander.
WS4 BS4 S3 T3 W3 I3 A3 Ld9 Save 4+/4++
Equipment:
Carapace Armour
Wreath of Beaudouin House (Invulnerable Save)
Power Sword
Las Pistol
Frag Grenades
Special Rules:
Senior Officer
Voice of Command
Stubborn
Ruthless Command**
**Ruthless Command
LT COL Beaudouin's ambitious desires means that the interests of his men is always placed last. Instead of issuing a normal order, LT COL Beaudouin may order a Ruthless Command. Through his Joint Fires Controller, LT COL Beaudouin may call in indirect weapon systems on his own men should the situation offer itself. The order is issued to his JFC who must pass a Ld Test. If passed, the JFC may select one ongoing combat to call in any available indirect weapons that are within range. If the Ld test is failed, the JFC suffers from pitiful human emotions and cannot call indirect fire onto his fellow soldiers, instead, he deliberately directs the fire 12inches closer towards the enemy home board edge, hoping that it doesn't land on his comrades. "Yes Sir, of course Sir. I double checked the coordinates myself. The guns must not be sighted..."
Further, If the order is successful, the entire army (Company Command Squad excluded) suffers -1 Ld until the start of the Imperial Guard player's next turn.
Even further, if indirect fire lands with 12inches of an Imperial Guard unit, they must pass a Ld Test or fall back (even if in combat), who knows who that was intended for!...
*Vox Operator
LT COL Beaudouin is so obsessed with his fleeting opportunity that he has resorted to micro-managing. The Company Command Squad must always have a Vox Operator
-Standard Veteran Profile
*JFC
The callous task of calling in indirect fire is not for the feint hearted. The vox net that is used for this task is specifically coded, utilizing frequencies that can't be heard by the rest of the regiment (for obvious morale reasons) nor be recorded for potential investigations. Only grizzled soldiers are suitable for this task.
-Standard Veteran SGT Profile
*Mortar Team
The men that form this team must surely be lured by additional riches or just plain and simply not quite right. If the order 'Ruthless Command' is given, but failed, the mortar team is immediately directed to carry out the task by LT COL Beaudouin himself before any other shooting attacks may occur with the commander himself cursing, "Do I have to do everything???"
*MoO
For obvious reasons
*Two Bodyguards
LT COL Beaudouin needs bodyguards... Again, for obvious reasons
END RULES.
So what do you think? Asides from taking out the obvious and direct costs from the body guards and the like, I'm not sure how to go about pricing this.
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers!
