I personally would forgo the superheavy and take a squadron of Leman Russes in its place, but then again I'm crazy.
Baneblades are the classic superheavy of choice for those who want a superheavy in their list and have no idea what they'd do with it on the table. It can handle almost anything that doesn't fly and isn't cripplingly specialized in any one area. Also, its main gun is on a turret mount with a co-axial gun for improved fire arc and accuracy.

I have a shadowsword, baneblade and a hell hammer. And most people say the baneblade is what they find the biggest threat due to its multiple uses.

Personally I rate the Shadowsword very highly. It is the love child of Chuck Norris and an Abrams... on steroids.

Biggest issue with the Shadowsword is it will either kill everything under the template or nothing. the other types are more reliable in killing.

I have a shadowsword...
D weapons now give cover saves though have the potential to cause more damage than before.
however the Stormblade variant with it's plasma gun gives 2 firing options so I am considering running it as a Stormblde when I next field it.
Super heavies are bullet magnets and can be a massive points sink when they get taken out by a little squad of deep striking meltas. (or with a single lucky stompa shot)
However, they can also be very powerful and ride a storm of fire while crippling the enemy.

I'd get a Stormlord for the Vulcan Mega bolter and transport capacity. You can load a couple of techpriests and a couple of heavy weapon teams in there, giving you extra shots from your protected heavy teams and a chance at repairing hull points as you lose them. The Mega bolter shoots twice if stationary, and at different targets.

yeah.. but 30 S6 shots for near 500 points or so.. its a bit 'meh'.. add the transport capacity and factor its huge 6" move per turn and it basically will be staying still so you can fire the heavy weapon squads out of it.
I have been considering making my shadowsword a stormlord and adding a load of heavy weapon squads with sandbag defenses to the hull as a modelling project... but it doesn't really have the necessary damage output required for a superheavy.
Techpreists won't save you either; if a super-heavy goes, it goes big... and if your opponent isn't firing enough at a super-heavy to kill it in one turn then they are doing it wrong.

For a small game it'll be ace. You can use them in 1000 - 1500 point games, as well.
By the time your opponents inflict damage and strip hull points off, the techpriests inside could be repairing those hull points/ weapon destroyed.

I'd be surprised if the meta for armies doesn't include a small group of highly mobile melta bombs or melta guns featuring somewhere in each list.
that said.. if not facing effective anti armour a superheavy will rain all over the parade.
