Anyone have the pleasure yet? Starting a game in a fortnight and not played since forever. I'm struggling to understand the skill proficiencies... In the example characters they have the normal stuff acrobatics+5 arcana+4 investigate+2 etc etc but when looking through the player hand book it describes the skills as just having them so it would be like acrobatics yes, arcana yes, investigate no. Etc. Am I looking at it totally wrong? I can figure out how the number assigned to the skills is worked out :/

Page 174, at the bottom of the second column: "...proficiency in a skill means an individual can add his or her proficiency bonus to ability checks that involve that skill. Without proficiency in the skill, the individual makes a normal ability check." Your proficiency bonus is actually based on your level (see chart on page 15).
