Commanders, I present the Cerberus MkII - Main Battletank Chassis of the 5th Hades Armoured Division Working on a range of addon conversion bits and a few alternate versions - I am really inspired by SDKFZ to do a Cerberus ARV. For those who dare not ask - Yes, its available for sale here: treadheadz.tictail.com/

looks great so far.
I am impressed by how 'snug' you are making your panels fit together.

Thank you.
I found the turret in a papercraft-chibi-type Abrams - Scaled, printed and laminated the basic shapes, then assembled the basic turret. I then reinforced the inside with 1.5mm plasticard and then placed 1mm plasticard on the outside with small overlaps, that I trimmed with a scalpel and sanding.
Next stage is to make the inside more smooth with thin 0.5mm plasticard, greenstuff and resin - hopefully the turret will end up with a nice smooth underside, to make casting easier - The process has been long and somewhat complicated, but hopefully I will end up saving a great deal of weight on the turret.
The original beast clocked in at 485g but with box and bubblewrap it ends around 510g, just over the "magic" 500g mark, that apparently almost doubles the postage cost.
The aim is get the standard kit all boxed up and ready to go, under 495g - just to be sure!
The Hull, Engine and Track sections also have a great deal of "fat" that can be trimmed. But partly because its fun to build - I'm going to rework them too, with a bit more detail - But still keeping the same size as the original.

Time for a small update. Life and other things have stolen up my time - but I finally managed to free up a few hours of work. Main Turret is 95% complete - minimal clean-up needed prior to molding. Side stowage bins 100% complete - ready for molding. Track section is getting done - still needs some clean-up after greenstuff work - also, I have a billion small gaps to fill in the tread links to avoid undercuts in the mold. Overall, I'm really happy, with the result. I would have liked to add one more roadwheel, but there was no room, if I wanted to keep the current dimensions of the Tank. The plan is to make a set of side-armour panels to cover the sides - so all those rivets are mostly for my own pleasure Oh, and pictures!

Just a quick keep-alive-update...No pictures yet, sorry! Well, the project has gone into holiday mode - not enough time, well that, and the fact that I recently re-made our Groups gaming table and a series of other household projects!! But, I've managed to actually make the mold and cast up some 10+ turrets for my fleet - good news, is that I've saved about 25g on the turret alone - Still need to remake the mantle and main gun, the rear bustle/ammo rack. Also the mold for the track section is done and working. Next up is the main hull and engine section - hopefully I can clear up some hobby time soon! I'll try to get pictures up later today or tomorrow

So I guess time flies faster than you think... That soonish update, well sorry about the wait, work and life etc... Did a huge load of work on the project in the last few days, mainly making mastermolds and casting turrets. Still missing the Mantle and main BattleCannon, but this will be the standard kit for the A2: I made a quick "proof of concept" for the rear bustle rack, by making a resinmaster and then bending it in hot water - came out pretty nice, just need to adjust the size and spacing of the girders. And lastly, I finished the mold for the Cerberus Assault Gun (Punisher) - this is the first trial cast, still needs rear ammo hopper and ammo-chute - but I'll get around to that tomorrow!! Enjoy!!

Fantastic sculpting and scratch building!
I am amazed how clean the resin master is.
Any chance we can order them through you? I am based in Australia but after seeing this thread I joined the forum.
Happy gaming,
Allan

Thank you - Yes they will bw available for sale in time.
The trick for getting clean resin cast - is to powder the mold with talcum everytime, and using a low-viscocity resin - a little flash is hardly avoidable, but preparation and cleaning is easy and quick.
Also, when making the mold, it really pays off to do it proper and not rush it.
PROGRESS UPDATE: The new Bustlerack fence/girders are done and looks great - I went from 2mm horizontal strips to 1.5mm and it really shows. I'll get pictures of the test cast up tonight, hopefully(!)
Next on the slate is Main Battlecannon/Vanquisher and mantle. Ammo hopper and feed chute for the Punisher/Exterminator. And finally the main hull.
After that I'll start doing more main gun variations.
I also got plans for some limited release (pending interest) for a Destroyer and Atlas type variants.
although it is a LR proxy, I'm not sure if all variants will be done, so far this project has taken alot of time, and I really want to be done with the A2/MkII so I can get painting - But I'm forcing myself not to rush it, and compromise on the design.
At the request of Col.Jacka on the Warseer forum, I've also deviced a small background for the tank - still needs a bit of working and needles to say I've taken some inspiration from Greek mythology and whatnot. Cool thing is, it got inspired to write up some background story for my IG and its homeworld.
Anyways here goes:
Named after it creator Forgemaster Erik Cerberus of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Cerberus Main Battle Tank is produced on the Forgeworld Hades Prime - and its surrounding industrial moons. The First Cerberus was originaly produced and fitted with the Rippler Cannon, A triple barrel Battlecannon firing high velocity shells. The combination of a highly advanced and pure machine spirit and targetting system, and the engine and machine technology adapted from the Sicarian Battle Tank. The Cerberus was an absolute lethal predator, moving fast across the terrain and decimating its prey with high velocity fire from the Rippler Cannon Unfortunately the main forges and STC vault for the Rippler Cannon was destroyed during the first Borderlands War, when a massive Ork invasion tore through the Tannhauser Gate System - Host system of the Hades Prime and its sister planets Elysia and Mideria. Unable to reproduce the Rippler Cannon, thousands of Cerberus Tanks where re-configured to the armament of the Leman Russ, thus extending the life and formidable technology of the Cerberus Tank. For many centuries after, the Cereberus has been used primarily by the Imperial Guard Armoured Divisions created from the Tannhauser Gate System, among them The Hades 5th Armoured Division commanded by Lord General Ezekial Rhoza III. Several version of the tank have also found its way into service in other systems and with other Guard Regiments.

Here's my edit to your back story:
Named after it creator Forgemaster Erik Cerberus of the Adeptus Mechanicus. (unchanged)
The Cerberus Main Battle Tank is produced on the Forgeworld Hades Prime - and its surrounding industrial moons. (unchanged)
The First Cerberus was originaly produced and fitted with the Rippler Cannon, A triple barrel Battlecannon firing high velocity shells. The combination of a highly advanced machine spirit targetting system, and the engine design and manufacture technology adapted from the Sicarian Battle Tank (list some advantages; ie, enabling an aiming time increase of 0.78 seconds, and a reduction of dispersion by 2.63% over 100m when moving a full speed. The engine was reworked to give higher horsepower to weight ration than the original Sicarian model and the manufacture process was shortened by 17 hours due to increased efficiency. The Cerebus also benefits from a new alloy involved in its hull structure enabling thinner armour yet yielding the same durability, thus enabling the tanks a further increase in speed at the cost of a loss of traction in some rare conditions).
(These advantages saw it rise very quickly from prototype to a popular Main Battle Tank adopted by both the PDF and Mechanicus forces within the sector. The Mechanicus enjoyed the machine spirit's capabilities while the PDF were able simply in awe of the accuracy and speed).
The Cerberus was an absolute lethal predator, moving fast across the terrain and decimating its prey with high velocity fire from the Rippler Cannon. (unchanged)
Unfortunately the main forges and STC vault for the Rippler Cannon were destroyed during the first Borderlands War, when a massive Ork invasion tore through the Tannhauser Gate System; the Host system of the Hades Prime and its sister planets Elysia and Mideria. (minor tweek)
Unable to reproduce the Rippler Cannon, thousands of Cerberus Tanks where re-configured to the armament of the Leman Russ, thus extending the life and formidable technology of the Cerberus Tank. (note some changes; ie, The added weight of the Leman Russ armament brought back the traction lost to the original design, unfortunately this was at a loss of speed too).
(unchanged)

Thanks for the heads up! The new girders do look much better and I am very impressed with how clean the bends are given you are not using a tool or block while you are building the model! If you have an online store would you mind pointing me in the right direction? Keep up the incredible work. Looks like I will keep a few 28mm armies after all ?

At the moment no - but I have an online solution lined up, once the MkII is released.
Took a few attempts to get the right bend, thankfully without scolding my hands or fingers!!
I have some hobbytime slotted tonight and early next week - should be able to get the list of things to-do shortened!
I'm trying not to rush the design, but would also like to aim for a early to mid-febuary release - time will tell!

Someone is going to have to take flesh samples from all your new recruits, treadheadz. Bah! Paperwork!
AshotNINJA's Cerberus(es) look amazing. Have you managed to paint up your Mark one version?
The background story sounds interesting; guardian of the Hades system.
Have you been having Ork issues as well? Maybe make one with flamers all over to keep the blighters off the tank.

Yup, 2 out of 4 in our gaming group, has an Ork army - One of them quite a large one :] "Guardians of the Hades System" - Not bad...I might hang on to that! Sadly, I have not painted a single one yet, been way to busy building and converting...kinda funny, how the creator is lacking behind

A quick update - had a few hours before going off to work this morning: Rear bustle rack is DONE! I had to adjust the vertical strips and re-cast the thing, but this one is spot on - with a thickness of only 1.5mm they are a little bit fragile, but once some stowage is crammed in, it will be strong enough for rough gaming Also began work on the main gun - most of the fiddly stuff is done, all there is left is to finish the mantle, clean up the greenstuff work and add rivets - I'm contemplating adding a small 12x10mm platform on the barrel closest to the mantle to mount smokelauncher, searchlight or other gubbinz - much like I did with the Vanquisher models earlier in the thread. And lastly a somewhat comical picture of the turret on a Rhino - I guess its not really suited for a Predator
