Ok so i was just looking around at guard armies and gues what i can no longer do vostroyans because one of my freinds has started them already. So i decided why not combine my love of 40K history with the Imperial Guard. And thus the Pre-Heresy imperial guard are born. What i belive they will look like is this. just a standard cadian model paint scheme will be. Bubonic Brown armor, Gore Red Fatigues, Black Boots, And a gold Plated Las gun.
Now the reason i put this thread on is to see if anyone had any other info or suggestions on Pre-Heresy imperial guard. If you have anything please post.

great idea, like the paint scheme ideas too. All I know bout pre-heresy IG is there wasnt an Imperial Guard... it was the Imperial Army, and it included both of whats now the Guard and the Navy, they were one. Looking up Warhammer 40,000 on wikipedia and then finding the Imperial Guard History would be an great source for you I think

And I think they weren't loaded with Imperial insignia. just file some away, like on the Lasgun and the helmet. Perhaps just a little changing of the helmet (GS or something like that) would let them look even older. Oh and the paint scheme sounds really nice

No Lasguns
Autoguns only. Lasguns came into Imperium in the 31st Century.

Yeah, lasguns came later, the autoguns were still used, so I would say modifying your lasguns to look like autoguns and then take more autocannons than anything.... i doubt they would have lascannons. But they may have since they were big and bulky... but i think the majority of anti-tank weapons would be missile launchers.

Steer clear of all things Plasma Plasma wasnt really added into the Imperial Army till just after the Heresy, it was all Space Marine Technology then
Also, Are you planning to make it like, A Pre-Heresy Army emerging from the warp?

This sounds like a cool idea, i will be watching this closely. What will you be doing about vehicles because it says that some pre-heresey vehicles has anti-grav devices. Could make for some cool conversions.

The original Imperial Army boasted great variety amongst its forces; some utilising mutant troops while others had access to anti-grav vehicles. Each unit drew on the strengths and technology of its homeworld, and variations were dependent on a world's religious beliefs, level of technological advancement, social customs, and specialist industries. This led to the development of regiments recruited from a single homeworld, as men from different worlds would have trouble understanding each other's dialects, social customs, tactics or specialist equipment.
The Imperial Army was also in nominal control of many starships, and each regiment of the Army would be assigned to a single cruiser-size vessel, or spread amongst a squadron of escort-size vessels and armed transports. In this way, the deployment of a starship to a location would automatically bring with it a substantial armed force, who could be used for boarding actions, planetside campaigns or garrison duty.
Because of the sheer variety of worlds and subsequent Imperial Army regiments, a measure of standardisation was deemed necessary to allow the Army to function as a whole, although the sheer size of the expanding Imperium by this time prevented any true standardisation. The treatise that came to be known as the Tactica Imperium was penned and distributed, and a cadre of political officers, the Commissars, were developed to ensure proper and effective integration and co-operation between regiments. The role of the Commissars later expanded to include maintaining the quality and morale of the regiments they were assigned to.
Auto weapons
Auto weapons are weapons which use solid-slug ammunition making them the equivalent of real world solid round bullets. They are found in pistol, rifle or cannon form. Auto weapons are still popular among soldiers of the Imperial Guard for reasons such as while having a similar calibre, the bullets are capable of causing bleeding whereas a Lasgun's beam cauterises wounds instantly. Also its noise and visual effects are more useful against Orks. It was the standard-issue weapon for the Imperial Guard until the 32nd Millennium.
While autopistols and autoguns are similar to their las-variants, autocannons are very unlike lascannons. Autocannons are rapid-fire heavy weapons designed to eliminate heavily armoured infantry or light vehicles, and are often used by Imperial Guard heavy weapons teams in battle, due to its versatility and reliability. Autocannons have better penetration than heavy bolters, while greater range than assault cannons, but have a slower rate of fire.
There are also sniper rifles which use solid slug ammunition - although, like other auto weapons, they are restricted by heavier ammunition. The advantage the Slugthrower has over its light based opponent is that fewer enemies will recognize the report of the rifle, as opposed to the long-las' ruby beam
