Hello all I had a general idea of what I wanted in a guard list (tanks) and have purchased some units. I was just wondErin what the commanders and veterans here thought of my prototype list and how it may fare as an all comers list.
HQ command squad 4 grenade launchers chimera
Troops 3x veteran squads with heavy flamer and 2 melt guns melta doctrine thing.
Fast attack hellhound or any of the variants
Heavy 3x leman russ with hb sponsons (I know they have to snap fire).
2x leman russ executioners with plasma sponsons
Deathstrike missile launcher
I'm not competetive and really like tanks from my old army days. This list isn't quite 2000 pts. Will it get stomped every game? Will it beat everyone? I have enough room to add vendettas.

Tanks are good but you need some lascannonry to deal with AV14 vehicles, like enemy Russ, battlewagons or Land Raiders. Vendettas are a good deal and tend to have better angles of fire than heavy weapon squads and tend to last a lot longer.
Will it beat everyone? No, you need to learn how to spot and deal with any serious threats to your tanks early on , but it could be anything from Orks on bikes with a power klaw character or some 'Fists with a lot of lascannon devs hiding in good sniping positions.
Deathstrikes are quite bad as a heavy slot choice; you'll need to make that one shot count.

Vendetta's will help, and the deathstrike will be more effective as a manticore.
However, max/min gaming is a thing, I like players who field what they like because it has back-story, fond memories, and steer away from the plug and play options to give opponents interesting fights.
At 2000 points a 6 x 4 table gets quite crowded, so vets and mechanised is effective.
If you like tanks then get more tanks! (transports for your vets).

Oh I didn't mention it but I do have a chimera for each vet squad.

How about cam netting for all russes. Dozer blades for chimeras?

How about a defense line?

Defense line with quad gun is cheap and helps deal with flyers. It would also help to know exactly what you've assembled and what's still available to change. Some things like the deathstrike are so unreliable that they're really relegated to more fluffy lists or apocalypse.
Vendetta support will also ease the effect enemy air will have on your tanks and infantry. Something else to consider is taking a second FoC by stuffing in a cheap veteran squad and company command squad, allowing you to split up some of your tanks. Two Leman Russes firing at something is insurance, three can be overkill.
But, other than that, I'd say it's a good starting place. It's a little light on Troops for trump-capturing points, but I can't deny the fun of putting down eight or more tanks and grinding your opponent under your tracks! In the end, if you aren't in a tournament, I think the most important part is enjoying your army. Play around with things as you assemble and paint everything, and figure out what fits your play style best. And if you like tanks and want something that can kill other tanks, get a Demolisher. That sexy beast always keeps me coming back for more.
