G'day all,
So I've slowly been making my way through my guard army and have decided that after the last couple of years of fighting for the Emprah! that I'd 'reallocate' some resources to the forces of chaos. I've got a couple of fantasy zombie and empire kits that I'm going to bash together with some cadian kits in order to create some zombies and a few bases of nurglings just for sh1ts and giggles. I'll probably also add some ogres/ogryns and MAYBE a squad of nurgle SM or termies to act as the retinue for the HQ.
With that in mind, what do you think would be the best rules/resource for this army? Does the Chaos Codex have any entries for zombies and nurgle goodness or should I just stick to my Siege of Vraks books for the rules?
Cheers!

Currently the Chaos space marine codex has rules for zombies. They are just cultists with a mark of nurgle, which is an upgrade about the same cost/model as krak grenades. Also I think you need the S.c. Typhus to upgrade to zombie. They lose the ranged weapon but they're fearless and they're 'slow and purposeful'.
Vraks book allows you to take a lot more guard type infantry but I hate the random leadership you have to roll for every squad. But there are still things I like in the codex - Alpha Legion csm elite slots, beserk ogryns and mutants. Here's a thought; using csm codex as an 'allied contingent' for your Vraks army..

There seriously aren't enough cultist armies out there, give 'er hell.
So I've got a really basic question but I'm a noob so forgive me for not knowing something so simple. Now you're talking about making plague zombies... are they going to be on circle bases? I know most reasonable people out there wouldn't care if you ran square bases from fantasy (I know I wouldn't) but it wouldn't take much imagination in order to expect some 50 year old man baby who takes this game way too seriously making a big deal out of it.

I know exactly what you mean man, most people wouldn't care but I bet there'd be that one rule dictator who'd make a wise crack at my 41st millennium kitted out fantasy zombies. Luckily I've got a number of circular 25mm bases I'll be using for the zombies and a heap of 40mm bases I'll be using for the 'ogre' sized models so 'crisis' averted ^Cheminhaler. It's good to know that I have the option of having pure zombies and cultist zombies who can actually shoot. I'm likely to make my more IG looking zombies to be the cultists with mark of nurgle so that I retain some firepower and my workers rabble (zombie/free company/tank and driver torsos kit bashed goodness) will be pure zombies. I'm very excited by this project and once it's done I may even create a small 500pt Inquisition band to be the adversaries. Right now I'm able to create: 140x Grunts (Combination of Fantasy Empire Free Company, Fantasy Zombies, 40k Cadians, 40k Catachans, 40k Tank driver torsos and 40k Dark Vengeance Cultists): These will make cultists & Zombies 10(Maybe 15)x Big Mutants/counts as terminators (Fantasy Chaos Nurgle Lord, Fantasy Gutrot Spume, 8x Blightkings): Can leave them looking old school Nurgle or have a 40k touch 6x Ogres (FW Renegade Ogre, 3x 40k IG Ogryns and 2x Fantasy Ogres) 6x Nurglings Bases 3x Plague Drones 1x FW Nurgle Deamon Prince Luckily for me none of these are assembled so I'll have free reign to kit bash and customise however I want. Not sure If I'll leave them as a mutant horde or if I'll give them some of my IG vehicles such as the manticore and devil dog and make them look like they have toxic munitions. If this project is really enjoyable and I find a colour scheme I really like I may even try and pick up the Glottkin of Nurgle to be the centre piece =D ... But right now I'm leaving that as motivation to get my ass into gear once work settles down... In September haha Has anyone here at IGMB tackled a similar project?

I think you should add in a bunch of 'nid bits, Obliterators with every 'nid gun obtainable would be so nurggley!

wargames Factory make cheap zombies for the rabble if you're not playing in official stores.
There was some really bad short story I was reading recently that had nurgle corrupted guardsmen accompanying a daemon; they were supposed to be infected by diseases. They had different uniforms but all had gas masks.

Ah, a fellow renegade builder!
Are you going pure Nurgle?

Ah, a fellow renegade builder! Are you going pure Nurgle? Yeah I definitely want to achieve the Papa Nurgle look! Not interested in anything Khorne which is a shame considering the recent releases. I've picked up a few blightkings, plague bearers, nurglings and have assorted Zombie, Empire fantasy and cadian parts to make the masses. I might convert my unbuilt hellhound to make it more pestilent looking and reallocate the deathstrike missile launcher to their cause as well.
