Introduction Story
On the dustbowl settlement of Ringo's Crossing, in the backwater world of Mareley, the tanks of the Imperial Guard were positioning themselves in the centre of town. The guard were formed from two decimated regiments, amalgamated as one fighting force by Sector High Command and sent out to deal with the Ork invasion.
Major Kastorian had fought Orks before when he was still in command of a regiment but now he was down to a handful of veteran squads and some vehicles. The rest of the Guard forces were made up of the Ektos Chem Dogs. Kastorian cursed and spat, observing his counterpart Captain Otembo of the Chem Dogs, standing in the sweltering heat under his regimental banner. The Chem Dogs were the worst of the worst; criminals rounded up and sent as part of planetary tithes of troops to the Imperium. It was scandalous that Kastorian had to fight under the same banner as these scum for what might be his last command. To add insult to injury his force had been assigned a Commissar and a Naval Lieutenant, called Kurganova and Mayers respectively. Kurganova had a crazy glint in her eyes and the naval lieutenant looked like a charlatan in a dinner jacket.
On the horizon the sound of ranged weapons being fired and vehicles revving their engines could be heard, which interrupted Kastorian's thoughts. A huge orkish behemoth gradually became more visible as smaller vehicles sped past it and towards the Imperial Guard positions, the sounds of whooping and wailing being heard over the gunfire and engines. This was it; the greenskins were coming - it was time to organise the squads and the Transport and make Otembo aware of the situation, in case he hadn't noticed.
The speaker horn on the gigantic, yellow Ork behemoth walker was chanting 'Morka'..
This was a 7th edition game played with Maelstrom of War , each player taking 2000 points and using multiple detachment(s)

Emptyhat won the roll, set up first. Cheminhaler then Seized the Initiative and took the first turn, we both rolled 3 tactical objectives for our armies
Turn 1
The Officer of the Fleet passes leadership test ; enemy reserves -1 (proving he isn't a charlatan)
Orders the major rolls snake eyes and gets free orders for everyone - both company commanders twin link nearby heavy weapons
Both basilisks manage to take a hull point off different looted wagons on the other side of the table with ranging shots.
The rest of the heavy weapons and leman russ fire is ineffectual.
The hunter killer missile on the lone chimera misses a shot at a looted wagon from next to a forest.
A Chem Dog infantry squad secure objective 3 (becoming a Skyfire Nexus), which was one of the missions rolled, so score a Victory Point
The Ork vehicles all move forward, except the two squads of gretch; one of whom camps an objective in the forest on the East side and the other camp behind defensive walls near another objective. Gretchin roll Nothing of Note on objective 1.
A missile laucher squad from the h/w team die in the forest on the west side to fire from the Morkanaught.
A voxcaster guardsman dies in the forest on the other side of the guard deployment zone, to ranged fire from a buggy's big shoota.
A single lasgunner is shot by the other buggy big shoota.
Missile launcher guard heavy weapon squad fail morale check and move back.
Turn 2
Officer of the Fleet passes leadership test, proving to be a naval asset.
One sentinel outflanks behind the Morkanaught, on the west side.
Basilisk hits the yellow battlewagon, taking a hull point off.
Looted wagon near the Morkanaught gets wrecked by autocannon shot from the Chem guard squad in the forest. This gives the Guard First Blood; an extra VP.
The Leman Russ battlecannon takes a hull point off the Morkanaught and destroys the big shoota on a buggy that was a bit too close to the super heavy walker, trying to benefit from its kustom force field.
The other basilisk destroys one of the big yellow battlewagon's rokkitz.
Deffkoptaz and two dakkajets fail to show as the space ships are harassing them. The only reserves coming on is one dakkajet, which zooms the maximum distance forward.
The east side Looted wagon Ork boyz disembark into the blue forest and move towards the guard squads on the other side of the forest.
The meganob squad disembark from the Morkanaught. Morka!
One guardsman in the east side blue forest is killed by slugga fire.
Dakkajet virtually annihilates a squad out in the open with a long burst of big shoota fire, leaving a single chem dog sgt who passes Ld test.
Battlewagon moves flat out.
Objective 6 (the armchair) is uncovered by a looted wagon and is a grav wave generator. Emptyhat scores 1 VP from objective.
Turn 3
Officer of the Fleet passes leadership test, again ensuring that vital -1 to enemy reserves. Surely he isn't just bluffing it!
Second scout sentinel shows up just slightly closer to the morka from the same direction as the other one.
Lone survivor sgt moves forwards.
3 ork boyz die to FRFSRF lasgun orders, another ork boy dies from a deviating basilisk blast marker.
The looted wagon near the forest which already unloaded boyz is immobilised by multilaser fire from The Transport chimera.
A second and third Ork Dakkajet arrive, the deffkoptaz alone being delayed by Imperial naval reserve assets.
Obective 5 is a grav wave generator, which the Orks consider looting at a later point, to allow the Morka super heavy walker to surf.
The nobz disembark from the battlewagon, which has spun around 360 degrees and presented its rear armour to the guard on the east side of the guard position.
The dakkajet punishes Major Kastorian's command squad by blazing them with dakka from its shootaz, killing the veterans and the Officer of the Fleet and leaving only the Major who passes his refractor field save and leadership test.
The second dakkajet kills 3 guardsmen from a chem dog infantry squad.
The third dakkajet blasts seven guardsmen.
Buggy fails to do anything to the outflanking sentinel
3 veterans in the forest on the west side die to meganob shoota fire. One missile launcher team is wounded, one guardsman takes a slugga to the face in the forest.
Meganobz charge Commissar Malinka and the veteran squad in the west side forest. Overwatch fire kills one meganob who is blasted by close range desperate lascannonry. Unfortunately Commissar Malinka and a single plasma veteran both roll one to hit and then fail to pass armour saves to overheating plasma, so they both commit plasmacide, shooting themselves in the mouth rather than fight the meganobz. The rest of the veterans die in combat to the meganobz.
The chem dog squad next to the chimera on the east side in the forest die in close combat to the boyz from the immobilised looted wagon.
The Morka grotz repair some damage.
Orks score extra VP for turbo-boosting vehicle mission.
Turn 4
Bring it Down order on the lascannon team in the bunker manages to take last two hps off the battlewagon which is wrecked.
After checking the rulebook it seemed Cheminhaler had forgot about the deathstrike, which was immobile all game, allowing it to fire automatically this turn. Eventually finding the appropriate 10" blast marker from the old apoc marker set the deathstrike fired at an ork boy right next to the morkanaught... And the shot deviated quite a lot. Still it's a big template so it still hit the morka square on, avoiding the boyz next to it and the dakkajet which as a flier is immune to blast markers. Then it would have destroyed the Morka completely but it managed to make it's force field save again, and as the explosion cleared the super heavy walker still stood, striding through the nuclear fire.
The Ork warboss Leman Steela had separated himself from the nobz and the big mek and was near the ruins at the back of the eastern guard position and the ruins where Captain Otembo's command was located. The Guard had the Kingslayer objective which allowed an extra D3 VPs if Cheminhaler could kill the warlord. An entire infantry squad opened fire at him, the lasguns tearing him apart long before the autocannon team got to shoot, much to their annoyance. Rolliing a D3, Cheminhaler rolled 1, giving him 2 Vps in total for killing the enemy warlord.
Deffkoptaz arrive on the west side, shooting at a chem dog basilisk, but missing completely
Orks score a VP for objective 1
One on the sentinels is immobilised by buggy shoota fire.
Meganobz do nothing to the deathstrike with one shot kombi rokkit shooting.
Orks score another VP for destroying squad in shooting - a lone missile launcher chem dog from the heavy weapon squad dying.
A Looted Wagon on the east side shoots at the special weapon melta squad, killing 2; the rest Go To Ground.
The chimera which has backed away from the orks earlier is immobilised by the Big Mek's snazzy kustom pistol.
Three chem dog infantry guardsmen die to dakkajet fire in the ruins on the middle level, right below captain Otembo and the banner. They fail Ld and run despite the reroll from the regimental standard.
Another jet destroys another command squad, leaving a lone chem dog junior officer passing Ld test but he had to Go To Ground to survive.
The Morkanaught kills 2 guardmen from the chem lascannon squad in the dugout, one blast marker scatters onto the Stadarzki Major, who survives the blast unscathed.
The nobz charge the 2 flamer command squad and the LRBT in a staggered/ multi combat charge. The flamers die and the LRBT is wrecked by the nobz big choppaz.
Morkanaught recovers another lost hp, the nuclear strike seeming to envigourate the grot riggerz.
Turn 5
The infantry squad run off the table despite the banner/ reroll to leadership test, taking a valueable missile launcher with them.
There isn't much left at this point. Otembo and his command squad shoot some nobz from up high in the ruins on the east side.
Both scout sentinels fail to do anything to the morka, despite shooting it in its rear armour for the entire game, from the same position (they might have stripped a hull point off at some point)
At this point Empty had to leave as there were rail replacement buses and delays to travel so he didn't get to fight his turn 5 but if he did a lot of the surviving infantry would have died to dakkajet fire in any case so we called it a day there.
Emptyhat won with 6 victory points, cheminhaler got 5 (objective, first blood, linebreaker, kill the warlord, kingslayer), so it was quite a tense match.
