Bought a box of Savage Orcs to experiment with in a possible scenario from my The Sword & the Flame book. It includes a jungle skirmish variant called The Sword in Africa, which is basically Henry Stanley / Heart of Darkness et al. The scenario I'm looking at reproducing has three units of Arabs (units contain 7-10 men in TSIA) and two of bearers versus four units of natives (which will be played by Orcs, or maybe Goblins as I have a ton of those) and two of pygmies (to be played by Lizardmen figures with blowpipes, javelins, etc). I have Tallarns to play the natives (though only about 20 with rifles), so the only proxy I'm unsure of is the bearers, who will basically be carrying treasure whilst being chased by the natives.
I'm considering ordering some Praetorians and Amazons, or possibly some Victoria Miniatures. Foundry is also a possibility, as they have a huge variety in their colonial and Darkest Africa lines. Basically, though, I'm trying to spend money at my FLGS, as that's where I'll be finding victims guinea pigs players for this. The actual rules will be TSIA.

I bought a few askari from Foundry years ago. They're good models but they look better on the thin MDF card historical bases rather than slottabases. Copplestone Castings has a few more packs - some Azande musketmen and pygmy archers but your best bet might be Perry Miniatures, who now make plastic Mahdist Ansar infantry and they also do the British riflemen in plastic. Perry miniatures - MahdistsThe plastic Mahdists are a much cheaper deal than Savage Orcs; 40 mahdists for £20 rather than £20 for 10 savage orcs, so if you can get them or ask your store to make an order from Perry's so you can buy them in-store, it'll work out much cheaper.
