Can anyone tell us all about the biggest 40K scale model ever built? That is, has there ever been a model built that is bigger than a Thunderhawk or Tau Manta ?
Not including anything Epic scaled ... or some massive life size autocannon, It's got to fit the normal 40K scale models.
I'm hoping that somebody somewhere has scratch built something of absolutely ridiculous preportions. Any pics would be even better !!!

I think Forgeworld is building some whacking great Titan model currently, but aside from that I think it's the Manta or Thunderhawk, or possibly some of the Eldar titans. I've seen one of the Thunderhawks in person, and it's freaking huge.

I considered building an entire Space Marine company and its Thunderhawks and vehicles, then constructing a Strike Cruiser to physically transport it in. It would have had to be below-scale, but would have been recognizable.
Come to think of it, some of the Apocalypse tables might count. GW has constructed at least two full-size starships, complete with decks and hulls but cutaway, to battle in.

That's a good point, Jen, I hadn't thought of those. I know they made a Killkrooza at one point as a table, but it was still technically a model too. I think you can find pictures of that in the origininal Apoc book. I don't know what the other starship they built was, though.

there are a good number of 40k scale warlord titans that have built by fans - they vary in quality from amazing to amusing.
there's a leman russ tank factory that was a piece of scenery - that was pretty huge.
someone made one of the larger space marine bulk flyers for a diorama - that's not the biggest but it looks very cool.
and I re-call someone on this forum making a bulk drop ship in the style of the old codex front cover artwork - flying cathedrals with exit ramps.

Great idea Doug, the thought had occurred to me. But instead I thought I'd start this thread. So that I and some fellow 40k-ists can have a little bit of discussion about the subject. Maybe make some interesting comments about particular models.
anyway ... I tried ... Can't find the tank factory

The Stormbird was officially unveiled a while ago so it might become reality. Still its an even larger thunderhawk so will anyone even want to play against that?

Yes. The person who brought two of them to the game.

He wants to play against himself?
That's treason. Heresy. Chapter war....

You would need a table 2,000 ft long to use that thing to max range.
I'm not sure where we can hire.

Some monstrous efforts out there, that Dora gun is outstanding !!! I could play a bloke in France with that !!!
Not sure if I'd count tables. They're more dioramas I think. Still, many of them good examples of modelling skill though.
Jen ... how big is this Strike Cruiser expected to be ? Is it just a thought to build it ? Or will it actually happen?
Tread, you put up a link for a storm bird. I'm quite interested in some of the big variants of Dropship as I'm also thinking of making a big flyer. So Chem ... when you say it was unveiled, do you mean fro epic only? Or does a 28mm version(s) exist ?

big fliers aren't much use to a game unless they are SO big that they can host a small skirmish inside them,
the reason is that they take up a huge amount of room in storage and on the table and don't deliver much more than the deepstrike and orbital bombardment rules do.
where-as if they can add another battlefield above the battlefield then this brings a whole new level of fun. (especially when models get thrown out airlocks or it crashes).

Agreed, I don't think I'll be gaming with it. I just want to build it then display it proudly on a shelf where it will gather dust for several years. Maybe a waste of time, effort and cash to build it knowing that it would be nearly impossible to play with ... but ... I've just got this uncontrollable urge to make something that will carry my SM Scout army. It'll have to carry 2 HQ on bikes with 2 bike squads, 12 Landspeeders and 8 landspeeder storms. I've got an idea of the design but it would be hard to describe it.

If it's a case, it'll still be functional. Or at least as functional as the rest of your collection.

A case would be a good idea but I don't think I could make it strong enough to transport models around. To keep them in my house ... yes, that would work. I estimate the thing to be between 3 to 4 foot long.

Basswood frame and polystyrene exterior. You can make it if you dare.
You can win if you dare... Dare! Dare to believe you can survive. Dare! The power is there at your command...

Now I did have to google "Basswood". And it may answer a little problem I have with making the troop container.
I'm just gathering the bits right now, wings, engines, fuselage ... to think ... my dropship started off as a simple Storm Raven conversion. the idea just seems to have grown somewhat.
To about a metre long.
