Chem ... I'd have liked Telion to be able to jump in a Storm with his attached squad ... as opposed to kicking them out to walk. But as everything is looking at an unbound list being my best way forward so I cold just buy him his own LS Storm Just had a chat with a mate ... it seems that to take any of the "formations" you must first have the minimum "Battle Demi Company".
Well ... I won't be taking that Demi Coy. I'd be to embarrassed to. That goes for "Skyhammer" too.

Orks have much better access to 4+ and fnp now (but it is pricey). FnP from the Painboy? Isn't that only restricted to one squad per HQ slot used? Chem ... Well ... I won't be taking that Demi Coy. I'd be to embarrassed to. That goes for "Skyhammer" too. What?! I could actually take the demi-company as it fits 3/4 of my planned army but as discussed above it could lead to serious confusion as to what unit is formation and what isn't. I'm actually more up for discussing with opponents whether to just disallow formations altogether as they seem to be a cheap way of forcing people to use certain units. On the other hand some look quite good; I was seriously considering the Cohort Cybernetica maniple for the Cult Mechanicus but when trying to get those units in addition to other stuff I've already got there was no way of getting all the units into a 1500 point list without going unbound. It just all seems too Apolcalypse for normal games.

Painboy uses an H.Q slot so you can have two for every two troop choices and stick em where you want. In the previous dex you could only get a painboy for nobz as an upgrade. In the current dex aas many of your mobs of boyz can upgrade to 4+ eavy armour as long as you can pay for it. In the previous dex it was limited to 1 mob. So you are burning H.Q slots (which you are also generating if you are fielding lots of CADs, since boyz are troops) and it pushes the cost of boyz up by 40% but you can have as much eavy armour/fnp as you like.

man o man.. I just tried to get my head around the Dread Mob, Imperial Armour Second Edition, Codex Orks and 40k Apocalypse... all of which have rules which are in some way related to the Ork army list.
I gave up and used army builder which allows me to grasp the information needed.
even so, I am still confused by what wargear can be used from the Dread Mob in a normal codex Ork army list (it seems WarKopta's and a Big Mek Character that can bring a Stompa are the only choices).
What i'm trying to find is the relevant rules for the Supa-Kannon and whether its part of a regular Ork list - can it be bolted onto the Blitz Brigade?
and yeah, today I should have completed my diploma... not looked at greenskin wargear!
...however I am only 4 questions away from completion (until I get the stuff marked and have to do corrections) - woot!

OK ; just working out my list. Just when the whole thing gets worked out as 2 demi companies at perfect 1k each I read that I can actually get my vindicator and techmarine in the list because there is a discount of all transports for free if I go gladius strike force. Also the techmarine is needed for my auxiliary choice and the free vindicator is needed to fill the auxiliary slot. Gonna have to go back in and work this out properly but I can also get an extra 3 free transports and have 2 drop pods and a rhino to assemble; don't need to buy anything. So many free vehicles RedCuffs - you can take your SM scout company thingy as normal; it's only if you want the Gladius strike force with 2 demi companies and one other auxilia choice to have a battleforged gladius force. So in other words the scout formation is fine as long as you follow the 1 hq and 2 troops per cad. You need another normal cad to cover your transports. ~(edit) So You need: 10th company task force formation - 3-5 scout squads normal cad - hq choice, 2 scout squads (not in the formation), 5 land speeder storms (2 as dedicated transports and the other 3 as fa slots) .. so there you have it. The perfect scout formation with 3 squads infiltrating, 5 transports (3 of which start empty). Haven't worked points out..

OK - it was all legit except for the stormtalon which I can't take. I have to get another hunter and a stalker instead, drop the power fist on the chappie (which means making new custom model as I'm not chopping metal model up), find another 5 tactical, assemble 2 drop pods and a rhino. Just when I thought it was going to be easy....
And it doesn't matter about perfect mathematics at this stage because of all the free transports. I have to sit down and work out smaller lists based on all that but using normal cad system instead of the gladius strike force. For those that don't know what I'm on about this is a new battle forged multiple formation that has appeared only in the new SM and DA books.

You'll be glad to hear that your Storm Wing is in the codex, Tread.
The reason I couldn't field my 'talon is because I needed either a normal CAD to stick it in, or if I had 2 storm talons and a storm raven then there's a 'Storm Wing' formation to include. Also Talons are a bit cheaper now so that the lascannon option is now plasma pistol points cheaper.
BT are in the codex, so those rumors were false.
