Well, i have been getting some additions done for my metal cadian army and thought, i haven't passed there in a while, i'll check it out Welcome back! Things are a bit quiet here these days, but we're still around. By the way, what are those tanks in your avatar from? They look like shermans, but too small for Bolt Action. Are they Flames of War? They are 10mm shermans for blitzkrieg commander. i must say, i got a bit back into 40k, not by 40k itself but using grimdark future as a ruleset. got some things done!

I have a 120pt Team Yankee tournament this Saturday that I got roped into and none of the models I need are painted, some weren't even built until yesterday. I have to paint 50 tanks and other vehicles in 5 days.
Let's do this.

I think that's partially a result of the 15mm scale, but the problem is even worse in TY than it is in FoW. They're trying to cut down on it by making more expensive units (M1A1HC, uparmored Challies, the T-80U which is a fantastic model, etc) but that's having limited success. Edit: 11 T-62s, 9 BMP-2s, and 1 BMP-1 done. Tomorrow, 11 vehicles on the BRDM chassis, Thursday will be 4 Shilkas and 3 Carnations, and Friday will be 11 T-64s.

Some good art somehow found its way into the Today thread.
I only need to survive three more days until a vacation starts. That vacation will quickly be interrupted by two days of staff meetings, but then will continue for three weeks. I hope to get so much work done before January.

Quick update- I got the whole friggin' army painted, and that's after revising the list to include more stuff. I based the infantry an hour before I had to leave, but it was still done. I was briefly in first place before dropping to 5th in round 2, and then bowed out since someone else dropped out and it was the easiest way to keep the numbers even. I just found out today I was randomly selected for a free platoon box from the game's publisher as a promotion for taking part in the event. I also know the guy who won his height in model kits from the same drawing. He was the shortest guy at the event at our store.

Nice! Both on the painting and the prize. I'd like to win my height (6'6") in model kits.. but I'd settle for a hobbit sized stack

I'd like to win my height (6'6") in model kits.. but I'd settle for a hobbit sized stack I was quietly hoping I wouldn't win that grand prize, my stack of kits to build is up to my knee (6'1" here) thanks to their recent "Buy 2 get 1 free" sale. I desperately need to work through that for the rest of this month.

I'm dreading trying to put the SU-25 kits together. I'm also trying to paint 120pts of Dutch for Team Yankee by the new year.

A happy New Year everyone. So far I've actually applied paint to models during this second lockdown, so my hobby year is off to a pretty good start.

Paint applied in 2021 so far; In November I started on a 3rd party Tomb Kings army for Genesys/9th age, and I might look into a way to make them work as undead in AoS. I've technically started painting them right after Christmas, but I've been steadily plugging away at them.
I also decided to try and be fancy and to try and paint a woodgrain on their shield (since they are plain wood rather than the more ornate GW shields), but I might go back and redo them.
The models are from a 3d printing kickstarter, and there's a bunch of cool monsters/monstrous creatures that I haven't felt brave enough to tackle yet. There were a few units missing from the kickstarter so I've already started hoarding STLs from different sources to make tombguard, chariots and cavalry.
Since there's so much fun printable minis out there I also set myself a hobby challenge for 2021 to paint one 'random' miniature each month. Something that is completely unrelated to any and all projects I might be working on, and possibly in a different scale. I often find myself building horde armies and batch painting (I wonder why I ended up in the Guard..) for a few weeks, and then I get bored and don't paint at all for few more weeks. So in order to break that cycle I'm going to have something 'different' laying around that I can work on, and maybe improve my painting along the way.
Since I usually use fairly drab and muted colours (I wonder why I ended up in the Guard..) I decided to start with something bright. So I printed out this Pirate Parrot (Pirrot? Parate?) from Artisan Guild:
There's been a lot of blending involved, which is nice change of pace. I still have a few colours to sort out, but I like how he's coming along. There's cords around the buttons on his coat that don't show up all that well in this picture, and I'm thinking about painting either those or the trim of his coat white. I've been playing around with NMM but I'm definitely not good enough at it to make two different types of gold work on an orange background.. so introducing another colour seems like the way to go.
