I went to a meeting that was a waste of my time even though it should have been useful -- the first week of my previous job was training, and the last day was an explanation of how the county insurance system worked, how to sign up for, select and use benefits. It literally went in one ear and out the other and I was lucky that I only ever went to the hospital once in the six years I was there, because I'm still not sure how that stay got paid for. Magic hospital fairies.

Where i work a lot of the officers go to about 5 meetings a day and do/say nothing. And get paid for it.

I remember a Dave Barry joke about meetings -- he figured since meetings ended up being just people telling others about what they were doing, meetings could be shortened to minutes if they just started, "Everyone here who is still doing what you're supposed to be doing, raise your hand." The punchline? He suspects this is how they do it in Japan.

Today, I am having a glorious and wonderful day, and I have come to the IGMB to spread my good cheer so that you can all join me in celebrating this beautiful day!
Turn those frowns upside-down! Today is an affirmation of life! It is a gift, which is why we call it the present! Why be sour, dour, and glum when the sun is shining, the grass is green, the birds are singing, and there's blue skies all around?
I'm having a wonderful day, and I don't see any reason why you all can't, either! I haven't felt this good in three years, and I've missed this feeling!
And now, without further ado, I'm off to spread my good cheer to other corners of the internet so that the whole world can join me on this wonderful day!

The punchline? He suspects this is how they do it in Japan. No, Japan would be going into extreme minutia of the details of everyone doing what they're supposed to be doing, why they're doing it, what they hope to achieve by doing it -- short- and long-term -- and also with the crazy atmosphere of Japanese meetings where you don't say anything that isn't already known and supported before the meeting even started.

....... Why be sour, dour, and glum when the sun is shining, the grass is green, the birds are singing, and there's blue skies all around? I burn easily and it's too hot to do anything, hayfever's going to make my life hell, the noise is making my head feel like it's going to explode someone please shoot them (quietly) and finally where's the rain they promised.

Karma. Sharps did this to one of my posts a year or three back. Ha.

In an interesting example of irony, that day of ridiculous happiness was immediately followed by two of the most crushingly depressing days in memory.
So, about normal the way my luck runs.

Today I came home and saw two female peacocks in my yard.
I'm sure it's an omen, but I'll be damned if I know of what.

There's a zoo nearby? Seriously, every one I go to has those birds wandering around free.
Thinking seriously of traveling to Bermuda again. I'd also like to visit southern Ireland but the former is more likely in the short run.

Meanwhile has the next stage of American social evolution ever been described so eloquently?

So here's how the patch looks on my flak vest. I'm quite pleased...

Trooper, you're one of the few things in Falls Church that's not just a massive disappointment.
And I think we all have to see pictures of you in the vest in full gear to appreciate the patches. How much did they end up costing, if you don't mind me asking?

So what's going to happen to the place where that skeevy karaoke bar was in the background?

That closed down and got bought up by a Mexican restaurant, which is trying very hard not to be skeevy.

That closed down and got bought up by a Mexican restaurant, which is trying very hard not to be skeevy. And it seems to be failing at doing so, as far as I can tell by looking out the window of Victory's gaming area across Lee Highway at it... <.< >.>

Yeah. There's only so much you can do, given the location and the building...

Yeah. There's only so much you can do, given the location and the building... Purge with flame... Of course, given how Tinner's Hill is exploding with development, I expect that side of Lee Highway will be torn down and replaced with an even more unsightly towering mega-complex at some point to complement the one that's being put up right next to Victory where the sleazy car lot used to be.
