Hey, so as promised, I wanted to get a few pictures of my stuff up. Unfortunately, most of my guard are stuck in the trunk of my car which just so happens to be in shop. I do, however, have a few pictures of a nearly done bullgryn squad i finished a few weeks back. In the state shown, they are about 90% complete. The only things I have since added are lettering/unit numbers and the bases, as well as some minor touch ups. So without further ado, I give you the first members of the 14th Tracian Abnormal Regiment. The full group, and before you say it, I know the Bone 'eads weapon load out/armor isn't legal but I wanted him to look a bit more of a leader. The whole painting experience was my attempt at large portions of flesh so I opted to use GWs paint guide. Would have liked to have put the commissar skull on the bone 'ead but couldn't find a suitable spot for it without the armor. Yes, his mohawk is purple, seemed like the punk of the group. Also, I know about the seam in his weapon, I didnt have any green stuff on me so I had to tolerate it unfortunately. Nothing too special about this bloke. Just doesn't like gas. And heres a close up of a shield, because why not. These have since been cleaned up (and the yellow highlighted). I also added their regiment name and number to each one of the in tiny script. So there you go, these are the first examples from my varied armies. I will try and expand on this thread once I am able to get more pictures as well as showing the final results of these guys.

Nice!
Regarding seams, the best way to deal with them is to use plastic glue to melt the joins, and then either scrape the seam down or sand it with something (Emory boards work quite well).
Looking forward to seeing more stuff!

Thank you! Like I said, I plan on posting my full army and the finished for of these guys when I get my car back. I had actually gotten the same advice when I was finishing them up at my local gw but, alas, it was too late. I will definitely be doing this in future though. Up until this year, I was totally isolated in my hobby as there were no gamers that I knew near me. Now that I live 5 minutes from a games workshop that has a great community, I've begun the long process of unlearning all my bad habits, cutting things off the sprue with a hobby knife for instance.

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to ask (upon rereading of your comment) what are Emory boards?

No worries about double posting in your own thread. Emory boards are those disposable nail files you can get at the cosmetics section of a grocery store, drug store, etc. GW also sells them, for use on Finecast models, but the ones you can get at the grocery/drug store come in bulk packs and are rather less expensive than the GW ones.

Ok cool, will definitely pick some up. I try to avoid buy gw hobby stuff when I can since they are usually so overpriced. The only exception is the hobby clippers since they are a solid, durable product (plus I kinda needed to since I was borrowing my local GWs manager clippers for so long that I felt I owed him the purchase).

Well, I am still waiting on getting the bulk of my army back (still stuck in the trunk of my damn car), but I wanted to update this to keep myself motivated for when I once again get to the battlefield. Unfortunately, this means resorting to a few poor pictures taken from my phone of the WIP stages of my first ever vendetta. It was actually completed several months ago but the only completed pictures I have of it are just awful and frankly the Emperor would be ashamed if I was to present the finished work to you fine chaps. So instead, please be satisfied with these teaser picks. First, I have for you the base. These brave chaps holding the line are members of 4th company, 91st Tracian Heavy Infantry Regiment "The Stonewalls". The bulk of my infantry forces are drawn from this regiment (though the 3rd company rather than 4th) and they are in my head fluff determined bastards when holding the line and are known for erecting temporary barricades at breakneck speed. The idea for the scene is inspired by one of many Civil War paintings which all seem to feature either a color bearer or officer valiantly charging over a small stone wall or fence. Well that and my severe phobia of painting armor (thus prompting more and more building to the base to delay painting). So here is the first member of the 216th Airwing. I went with the same green as my tanks mostly since it was what I was comfortable with but I did try a few light weathering techniques for the first time (not pictured yet). As shown the craft has only been given several coats of the green over a black basecoat (all done by hand since I dont own a airbrush). I personally prefer all my stuff to not be "counts as" but didnt want to fork up for the forgeworld attachment, I opted to build my own 3 twin linked lascannons. Nothing fancy about these though, just a heavy weapons team lascannon and a sentinel lascannon cut, fit, and a little green stuffing together to give a staggered look. bonus: Couldnt resist. Heres a blurry pic of the finished product, not meant to be critiqued quite yet without clearer shots but just to show kinda how it came out (and prove its actually done ) Once again, once I have my stuff back (hopefully tomorrow but who knows), I will get better, complete pictures up of these plus others.

The base for the Valkyrie is epic! The paint job is great too. I may steal that idea and do something similar when I get a flier!

Amazingly painted models.
Did you do the bases in 2 styles to keep the armies slightly different or so you can tell them apart in apoc games?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the nice words! I did the bases separately because I like to do different armies with different bases just to break it up a bit. These were done to match another inquisitor and a handful of grey knights I painted many many years ago. The grass bases (another choice made by a much younger me) didn't feel "dark" enough I guess for the inquisition. Alas, I have yet to play an apoc game. I actually only started playing about 5 months ago after moving to an area with an actual gaming scene. I've been collecting and modelling since I was 13 though (so near a decade).

OK so next update time. Like I said I will do all of my armor this time which will include technically 4 different regiments. If you haven't guessed already, each faucet of my army is drawn from a different regiment as per fluff, with several different infantry regiments (one for each guard army gw has put out plus a few extra). So first is the 7th Tracian Armored Regiment, the "Iron Tide". This is, unfortunately a mix of two russes I painted recently and two many many years ago so the difference is pretty bad but whatever. Also, this is another car photo shoot as I'm stuck here for at least 3 hours. First up is my pask in punisher. The tank commander is obviously taken from a hell hound with the arm snipped a bit to direct pointing. The counts as dozer blades are just the giant chainsaws from the sentinels which weirdly fit perfectly in those slots. Next is an executioner and usually pasks buddy and the first piece of armor I had painted in probably 5 years. This was the first time painting purple or actual plasma (usually just slapping some blue on the coils and being done). Here is a standard exterminator, painted a while ago and recently rearmed with the three heavy bolters rather than plasma and lascannon young me thought looked cool. And finally this big brute. One of the old school russes back when the turret was larger and the box actually came with things. The tank rider was a pretty recent addition and was a sentinel driver and did some very mild shaving and green stuffing to, and then gave him a cup of coffee. Everything is original paint job as I can't make myself redo it, nostalgia or something. And a group shot of all the tanks. I was going to include all armor in this post but I think it's long enough so I will wait on the remainder (spoiler it isn't too much). And once again, thank you for suffering through the poor photos, this is more to give me something to do while I wait so I apologize.

Just a quick update with a few shots of the rest of my armor. First will by my manticore (the only member of the 8th Mobile Artillery, sad I know). I had tried to buy a wyvern that day but half way through the build discovered I had bought the wrong kit. Oh well, I still love the thing. It is the only d3 roll that I ever always get a 5 or a 6. Next up is my hellhound. This is the first member of the 9th Tracian Light Armored Regiment (currently only joined by a few sentinels but a buddy is giving me a devil dog). He used to have a commander poking out of the turret but once I realized that my Punisher needed someone who looked like he actually had some stripes to represent a tank commander (rather than a helmet) I tore him out and closed the turret. And a quick group shot of all my armor (plus a chimera). And finally my sentinels. Since coming back into the hobby last year, I have expanded my collection of these guys from one of the old half plastic/half metal ones to two, 3 man squads of them. I dont know what it is but I love building and painting them. The armored sentinels are grouped into the 9th Light Armored Regiment and almost never see the table. Still they look cool and are fun to make and paint so whatever. I dont know if you can tell, but the old school sentinel is actually leaning a bit forward as it recently snapped at the "ankle" joint and took me about two hours of painful glueing, gsing, pinning, etc to fix. Also, the 9 (for the regiment number) is flat on top looking as they were switched from the 7th. And finally the scout sentinels of the 88th Tracian Scout/Recon Regiment. These guys are mostly a mix of scout sentinels and light infantry. If I were to ever build/employ rough riders, this is where they would fit in as well. These guys actually do see combat quite a bit. I face a lot of fast moving and assault armies at my store so popping these into the back field after a turn or two of them moving up is fantastic. More than one game (two actually) has been saved by their linebreaker as well. And all together now!

Going in a slightly different direction with this update, I thought I would show you the counterparts to the Tracian Loyalists; The Tracian Rebels. These include several regiments of traitor guard, support, and the several Chaos Marines that turned renegade from the Disciples chapter of space marines (my own chapter). First off we have a squad of the 19th Tracian Infantry Regiment (Traitor). These guys are, obviously, just a collection of the snap fit cultists from the 5 man set. I did tweak a few of them though, notably giving the sergeant a guard helmet and chainsword (he was also the first model I ever tried to put stubble on). Also, I turned one of the guys autogun into a flamer and did a few weapon swaps to break up the monotony. I have just bought the chaos side of the DV set off ebay so these will be expanded on shortly. Next, I wanna show off some power armor. I have yet to come up with a name or chapter symbol for this traitor warband, though I have fleshed them out a bit fluff wise. Basically, one of the librarians gets into some books he shouldn't be reading, goes nuts and begins worshipping Tzeentch and ends up convincing a good part of the Disciples chapter to follow him, dragging the entire star system into civil war. I went with a totally different paint scheme then with my space marines (Ill post an example at the end) to really show a deviation from the puritan ideals of their former chapter, and I also hate painting black and white power armor. The force is still quite small as it is only really a pet project and still in it infancy. As it stands, the warband contains 16 marines, 5 possessed, a terminator lord and kitbashed sorcerer. So a quick group shot followed by some close ups. Please ignore the bases, they aren't painted yet. And now some of the possessed squad. This was my first time trying to paint demon skin so it came out a bit rougher than I would have liked. The leader still needs me to go back and finish up the webbing on his wings so ignore that. And now the man that made it all happen, former Disciples Epistolary Libarian Gordian Prevet, now twisted servant of Tzeentch. This model came about as a kid I was looking after for a few hours wanted to try to paint one of my models. After he physically poured gold paint onto one of my possessed, I offered to build him his own (instead of ruining one of mine). So I pulled out the bits box and cranked this out. I had no legs nor an extra back piece so I had to get a bit creative with the green stuff (my first real attempt with the stuff other than a flag on a sentinel). First I tried to sculpt some legs but when I realized that wasn't happening, I just made him part serpent. Fortunately, my neighbor came home early, thus allowing me to keep my new model. And now former First Captain Crassus Marth. He had just recently been promoted from the first company champion (second in command), following the "accidental" death of the former captain. It is believed that he had been swayed by the librarian, Prevet, to remove the former captain and lead as much of the first company to rebellion as possible. He succeeded in taking nearly half the chapters first company (nearly 75 veterans) along with several suits of terminator armor. And finally, just a taste of what these chaos scum left behind. I present you Captain Lucius Verna, active commander of the Disciples 6th company. I have about 4.5k points in marines, including a near complete battle company and a ton of scouts. Unfortunately, nearly the entire army is stuck in Pittsburgh at the moment and all desperately need to be repainted.

So I guess I took a bit of a break for painting guard (though I still play them every chance I get, and am on my first ever winning streak!). The hobbit has taken up a good bit of my painting time recently, trying to strip and repaint an entire Gondor and Harad army is no joke. But I was recently gifted an old metal Tyranic War Vet model that is going to be the beginning of an Ultramarine legion army for 30k. So after a quick paint job to test the scheme out, I present you Brother Walker (named after the person gifting it, not myself. Strange coincidence I know).

So I've been a bit inactive after a major breakup and two moves. Fortunately, life has settled down and I'm back living comfortably with a gaming buddy five minutes away from local games workshop. So now I'm back to all kinds of painting fun. It also means for the first time in my life i have multiple painting projects going on at once. I'm currently doing: -30k Ultramarines -More imperial guard (as always) -Lamenters space marines -Roommates Space Sharks/Carcharodons space marines -Roommates 30k Sons of Horus and Space Wolves (on hold) -Finishing up my Gondor and Harad armies for LOTR -100 lotr orc for the NOVA narrative game Currently my store is getting ready to launch a narrative based Badab War crusade so the Lamenters (my army) and Space Sharks (roommates army that I'm painting) have been pushed to the top of the list. He will be building this to around 2500 points to allow him to switch units in and out at any point scale throughout the campaign while I, conversely, have opted to just run a small contingent of the sad marines as buddies for my guard, either as allies or in concert through the tyrant legions rules. This also helps fit the narrative there are two other lamenters players. Two of us will be acting as captains of different companies while the third will be issuing us orders as the chapter master. So far I have done only a tactical squad and dreadnought for myself and the test model for the sharks (though I am really looking forward to cracking into painting his awesome conversions). Here's a shot of the two test models. And a close up of the shark symbol. I opted for this version rather than the coiled shark pretty much only because I like this better, and its easier to free hand a bunch of times. And here are the first 5 Lamenters. And the dreadnought. And a poopy group shot (our apartment has poor lighting) And while I'm doing power armor, I'll show a little teaser of my 30k ultramarines. Our store has a huge following of all the games (including Hobbit and 30k) so I try to dabble in them all a bit, though I find AoS to not really be my cup of tea. Up until this campaign, 30k was the big draw, with nearly every legion either being played or painted by one of the regulars. Unfortunately, I've only got my Calth box done plus one additional dreadnought but after this campaign is done, I plan on bringing it up to 3000 points with another calth set, some tanks, and bunch of forgeworld including Guilliman. I'll post the full army as it stands when I take some pictures but until then here are a few character shots. I went for a lighter blue for no reason other than I like it better.

There isn't anything too special with the ultramarines right now unfortunately. Just a calth box plus an extra dreadnought. Hell the bases and transfers arnt even done. But I'll post some pictures of them hopefully tomorrow. They are on hold right now while I do my lamenters for this badab crusade we are running but should pick back up shortly after.

Great looking models you got there. Those Lamenters/Carcharodons make me want to dust of my Astral Claws How is your Badab campaign going? My gaming group tried starting one up twice, but it never really took off. Been thinking giving it another shot now that I have the models to run a Tyrant's Legion list and can offer a bit of variety.

The crusade is in the building phase with everyone getting their first couple squads done before we start. The first game is zone mortalis with each person bringing their chapter master (or in my case captain) and a retinue to a meeting between all involved chapters before the even war starts. Meeting gets attacked, war starts. The loyalists, traitors, and renegade factions (collection of scattered orks, raiders, mercs, etc) each have a moderator that will determine our tactics and objectives for each phase.
So far we have 3 lamenters players (one acts as chapter master while the other two, myself included, act as company captains), a mantis warrior, an executioner, and the Astral claw player is the moderator for the traitors. For the loyalist we have the sharks, minatours, red scorpions, nova marines, star phantoms, salamanders, sons of Medusa and two exorcists players. Rules are they must be painted as your chapter, no subbing say space wolves for carcharodons. The space marine section at my GW is gutted haha.
