Playing a local escalation type league here.
Base rules (500 pt lists)
1. 1 HQ 2. 1 Troop 3. 1 Fast or Elite (optional) 4. No Heavy or Lord of War
So here's what I'm coming up with:
1. PCS (Commander is Warlord) 2. 1 Priest 3. 1 Inf Platoon with: CCS, 5 Inf Squads, 1 Hvy wpns (Autocannon), 1 Hvy wpns (Mortar) 4. Model count = 67
Tactics a) 5 squads will be in a blob with priest. (Might go blob with 3-4 squads - depends on opponent) b) PCS & CCS behind blob c) Hvy weapons teams behind PCS/CCS d) Use Autocannons to take out the following in this order: Elites/skimmers/rhino's/etc e) Use Mortar's against troops/HQ f) spam orders (FRFSRF for Blob & Bring it down on Autocannons) 6) Deal with fickle AM Warlord trait (hope for 5 or 6 but 2 would be nice)
I think I'll have some problems with some Elites (Dreadnaughts, etc) but hoping Autocannons/Mortars can help here)
I thought about dropping the mortar and using a Special Weapons Melta squad for the same pts cost.
What might I have trouble with?

Try to swap priest for a small commissar and then try to find a place for 10 veterans with 2 or 3 Melta. Mortars are good only against soft targets, autocannons are Ok
What I suggest is something like this:
CCS + 1 Melta Small Commissar PCC + Flamer 4 Rifle Squads Veterans 2 Melta 3 Autocannon

I like your idea. I was able to drop the mortar squad and 1 inf squad and pick up veterans with 3 meltas.
But why a commissar vs priest?
Priest guarantees a blob won't run whereas a commissar doesn't.
Guess I'm thinking by turn 2 I'm going to have the blob probably in close combat with something. If my opponent doesn't charge my blob then he's going to be taking a ton of shots from either the blob and/or from veterans and autocannons.

The biggest problem I see with the list is that heavy weapons teams are very fragile and don't take orders well. I'd suggest something like this
CCS 2x priest PCS 4x infantry squads with autocannons 40 conscripts
Split the infantry squad into two 20 man blobs, back them up with the CCS giving orders, and have the two priests join the conscripts for a very nasty tarpit. This way you have 4 autocannons that will accept orders better then heavy weapons squads and are much more durable

And if you're certain you can't keep the autocannon infantry out of combat you can always blob them and give them the spare priest.

The two priests together is very important if you want to tarpit. You need that rerollable 5+ on the 40 guys to tank for a long time. As long as you steer clear of dedicated CC units the conscripts should be able to either tie up or take down almost any target

Another great idea. Forgot to mention we are playing on a 4x4 table vs 6x4 table. And deployment will always be 12" on your table side. And no objective's just annihilation type game.
40 Conscripts + 40 Inf Squad, + PCS & CCS pretty much guarantees that no one is going to deep strike in my zone to start with. It will be just a matter of me moving across the board with the conscripts to get them into range for either shooting or assault if my opponent just sits back (high unlikely unless Tau or Eldar).
Most of the other players are pretty much looking at 2 maybe 3 units and kitted out with lots of CC stuff.

The less units they bring the better for you. Use your conscripts as a screening unit and just walk them straight across the board while your autocannons pick them apart. You can also walk the PCS up behind the conscripts to give them orders like move move move and FRFSRF. Leave the CCS back with the big guns for bring it down and fire on my target.
