I like the red Rifle and the base looks cool, he looks really distant just waiting for that perfect shot.
He looks cool and I like the red rifle, considering it's the main item of this assassin, why not show it off instead of hiding it?

Thanks MD, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. I might go back and try and add a little weathering powder/dust to his lower legs at a later time, but I want to practice a bit first since I've only used it on bases so far.

Ah wethering powders, my arche enemy. Well good luck with the practice, I've been trying to get it right for a couple of years and I still can't work it out.

I actually painted a guardsmen today. Well.. I painted half his flag, but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Looks fantastic mate, you should be well chuffed!
Looking forward to seeing him finished.
Are you hoping for any Warhammer stuff for your birthday next week?

Thanks, the other side has more fiddly bits so I'm curious to see how it'll go. I've given up on hoping for warhammer stuff; even with specific instructions my family members tend to get it wrong. But I might have some extra spending money to put towards something warhammery.

And the other side is now about done: I'm debating if I should 'write' some things on those white patches. But my free-handing is even worse than my handwriting, so it might not turn out well. I also want to avoid my standard tactic of 'add some squigly lines' to make it look like something was written on it.

Wow! Great job. The golden parts are especially well done. What recipe did you use?
As for writing I’d go with the squiggly lines (then my handwriting is appalling!)

Thanks! I might go squigly lines after all; it looks unfinished with just the white patches.
The gold is based with 'Rhinox Hide', which I then layered with 'Mournfang Brown'. Then a layer of 'Balor Brown' with a bit of Mournfang mixed into it, followed by pure Balor Brown. Then highlights with 'Screaming Skull' and a final highlight of white.

It's been a while, but it looks like there are some reinforcements inbound.

Nice!
What’s the colour scheme you are going with?

I've completed all scrubbing/sanding related duties last night. There's a few spots that won't budge, if they show through the primer I'll either cover them with stowage or see if can pass them off as battle damage.
Whilst looking for spare tank tracks I also found most of a 5th chimera. It was in pretty bad shape though some I'm trying my hand at one of those conversion where you cut down the rear and set back the turret. If it works out I might run it as a Salamander, or a chimera for the company commander.
Colour scheme is going to be a fairly simple desert tan, I do want to try and weather them a bit more than I usually do though. Just to make them a bit more visually interesting.

The old school chimeras are a brilliant bit of engineering. Looking forward to the repaint.
If you can't recover the 5th chimera it could be made into scenery and painted scorched, like it got hit by a few lascannons and then exploded.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on!
A little weathering always brings the models top life.

With a coat of primer and a quick wash they are starting look the part. The chopped chimera is sitting front and center. The joins aren't the cleanest but I think it'll look fine on the table; but I'll cover it with some stowage and other stuff just to be sure.

I really like it! The turret being set back looks great. Like you say a bit of stowage and other stuff will give it an “on campaign” look.
What sort of weathering are you planning? Bit of sponged wear and tear?

Post by nutty on Mar 20, 2020 18:48:42 GMT -5
I'm thinking some sponged chipping for sure, but I also want to play with weathering powders a little. And I might add some rust in places.
For now the wash is still drying, the thinner I used for my oil paint is taking forever to evaporate. Good to know for the future.. but a bit dissapointing to find out after you've slathered it on 4 tanks.

Sounds good. I’ve never been able to use weathering powders effectively.
Good luck, hope it goes well!

So every year or so something stirs and makes me work on my Guard army for a bit. This weekend it's a pair of Wyverns that have been sitting around have built since, well since shortly after wyverns were released... I'm also considering swapping the dark brown on my dudes out for a grey blue to give them a bit more contrast. Now I'm not sure if I'll go back and re-do the guardsmen I've already painted, but I think I'll start using it more from now on.

Looking good.
I’d advise the same thing I told my brother, keep moving forward. Once they’re done they’re done. I’ve done it with my Nids (the tails used to be Rakarth Flesh)
Once you’ve finished your pile of shame you can go back and revamp the rest of your stuff.

Seconded what jud said, finish off what you have before you start over and drive yourself insane haha. Wyverns definitely looking good though, keep it up!

I've been painting a test platoon (which are from the pile of shame with the exception of 1 Heavy Bolter team) over the past week or so. Still a few more highlights/details to go, but I lined them up next to a platoon in the old colours:
I'll see about taking another bite out of the pile when I'm done with these, Emperor knows there's enough in there to keep me entertained.
