Hi,
Having had great fun making destroyed imperial tanks I am extending this project to include dead guardsmen.
I've spoken of this project for some time and now I have 10 corpses already lying about my workbench!
I'm loving the freedom to kill the various infantrymen and create miserable human wastes decomposing in various poses...
However, I feel I am being selfish and therefore thought I'd invite you all to suggest different deaths that could occur in the world of 40k!
Please feel free to make as many suggestions as you like, I'd ask that they are clearly written so I don't get confused.
My Guardsmen predominantly fight against Orks so I might not model anyone converting themselves to slaanesh - unless the idea is too good to pass up!
I will be basing some of the models - notably the ones who's limbs are no longer attached and are scattered around them. Others will be designed so they can be placed on any other scenery to add atmosphere and effect.
I note that this may seem like it is making soldiers injuries a laughing matter, it isn't.
Part of why I'm building the scenery is because 40k games feature battlefields in which casualties simply vanish, war isn't so clean and I want to make my grim dark really Grim Dark.

It is entirely possible to get sawn in half by a maniacal bunny mutant orcling, saying 'Whats up, doc?', while wielding a large eviscerator. So a guardsman cut in half with a saw, and paint it very red. You could go one further and model trails of guts and intestines with modelling putty.
Edit ; when I say in half I mean top to bottom, not through the waist

Hit by boom kannon. Lots of charred legs and arms in a crater, also very scorched.

1.Large chunks of shrapnel embedded in the soldier. 2. Hit by a trukk wrecking ball. 3. Run over (use greenstuff+ ork wheel for the print). 4. Still standing legs but top half is a glowing skeleton. 5. Gretchin with a hacksaw (I have the parts if you want) 6. Half swallowed by a sguig. 7. Impaled by an Ork knife. 8. Bayonneted by own lasgun. 9. Dissolving in goop. 10. Drowned under water effect in a crater.

Make crater, fill with milliput. Press stompa foot into unset putty. Press guardsman/ork/grot/etc. into the footprint. Paint it up as them having been stomped into mud.

Still standing legs but top half is a glowing skeleton. For my Mantic forge father squat project I got three fantasy dwarf cannon crew sprues which all come with a set of blown up dwarf with only boots remaining and a tiny bit of leg bone sticking out the top. Do you need three blown up dwarf boots, Tread?

By mixing in some ork dead you can tell a tale of how glorious a death this was for our luckless guardsmen.
Did they get wiped out before the could mount a surmountable defense?
Did they lose the primary trench and have to fall back to their secondary before dropping their rifles and running for it after someone stabbed that miserable commissar in the back with a bayonet and crying out; "Run for it!!"
Did they face over whelming odds like true soldier's of the imperium?
I'd like to see Guardsmen executed by the commissar after dropping his rifle. Maybe the Commissar has an ork axe in his back as he was chasing after cowards unloading his bolt pistol. So like he'd be running back towards your deployment zone.
I dunno, I kind of like the Imperial Commissar with the imperial knife in his back. Commissar Cain often spoke of how often that happened to Political Officer's who played a little too "by the book".

Didn't historical Commissar's have like post's or gallow's they'd hang coward's bodies from for other soldier's to see? Make an example of the one's who run comrade. There is no love for conscientious objector's in the Mother land comrade.

so I've got the next 10 corpses lined up read to be glued and razor sawed.
there's still a box of catachan to feed into this project plus a few random cadians.
I ordered a few random orks of ebay so I can have one or two xeno casualties, however the fluff indicates that orks tend not to die very easily so they'll have to be fully messed up. It also true that my Orks have beaten my Imperial Forces in every apocalypse game I've ran so I think having higher numbers of guard dead makes sense.

You should start piling them ontop of one another.
