Some Hungarian panther tanks. I'm working on a Hungarian armored division since you get all the Panzers you want for a good points reduction and less war crimes. I also picked up some Finns but those are slow burn project.

Finished my Hungarian hetzers. I think the hetzer has to be my favorite Axis AFV in the game right now so I'm glad these are done. In case it's not obvious, I'm going for a heavy drybrush to make them look worn and dusty. Here's what's left on the docket for my Hungarian armor. - 10 Panzer IVs - 3 Tigers (I may cheat and repurpose some already painted tigers since the Hungarians got their second hand from Germany, in German markings) - 4 Panzer IIIs - 4 Zyrini II assault guns. I'm hoping to wrap up the armor by the end of the month and get the infantry (which has yet to be released) out the door by the end of July.

I have some Cold War stuff from Team Yankee (Soviets, Israelis, Americans, & Dutch) but I'm sort of indifferent to the system so they haven't gotten much attention in the past year or so. That said a good portion of the Israelis and US are painted up in desert schemes. I also have a box full of the American Civil War Epic Battles minis from Warlord Games but I haven't read the rules, and that may end up being a donation to the store or some of the people who play it. Battlefront also makes WWI and Vietnam games but I'm a little reticent to play them given the lack of support and the... less than balanced rules.
15mm seems to be the sweet spot in terms of what I can confidently paint in large quantities. My friend got sucked into Bolt Action but I'm so done with 28mm that if someone made me a half-decent offer I'd probably sell my Marines and just slim down to Sisters and the few odds and ends of Guard I have left.

I was just eyeing up the epic civil war set at my local store a few days ago. I had some 10mm and 28mm civil war a few years ago and I'm considering giving it another go as a cheap project/diorama. Probably do the stonewall brigade at Manassas

Probably do the stonewall brigade at Manassas Everyone who plays it says it's really fun, so I say go for it. I just don't have the wherewithal these days to absorb another rules system or paint another set of minis. Speaking of which... The long suffering Panzer IV, I'm hoping the price reduction that comes with taking them as Hungarians will make them worth it finally. All the Hungarian armor I've painted so far. I need to do another five Panzer IV's and four Panzer III's and I'm done unless I slide some Toldis in there.

Panther tank, based off of this scheme. It came out better than I thought but I'm trying to source some plastic hulls that don't have Zimmert because if I have to do that scheme on a grid pattern for four more tanks I'm going to jump out a window.

Loving the Panther!
I was going to use it on my Krieg tanks but thought it too time consuming so I went with German Field Grey WW2.

We had a Flames of War megabattle today, based on the battle of Orsha. 14 players took part, and it was fought across two tables. The allied and axis supreme commanders assigned their players to different tables, and then allocated them corps-level support (essentially platoons of free units) accordingly. The city table, each player had 100pts plus some support as mentioned above. Sadly I don't have too many pictures since I was on the other table. The road table I fought on. Allied and Axis spearheads moving into position at the start of the game. Axis armor fortifies one end of the board as the Allies fan out in the attack. They had more spearhead moves than us- allowing them to deploy further forward from their deployment zone- and 60+ tanks. That's more than a soviet armored brigade! The allies claim the center objective and the one on their side of the board, while the Axis drives off the spearheads and starts smashing apart allied armor. In the second picture you can see my Hungarian Panzer IVs launching a death ride into the allied armored mass, but it was too late. Allies claimed our table 2-1. Sadly I don't have a final picture of our table, but we had managed to knock out about 1/3rd of the allied armor, at the cost of the Finns being roughly handled and and some panzers lost. However! The Germans managed to claim or contest nearly every objective in the city, leading to a 5-3 Axis victory overall in the battle. The Allied commander over-allocated tanks to the road, which meant that the units in the city struggled to deal with tigers and heavily armored assault guns. Since I provided the divisional support for both sides, my army, a German player's army, and a chunk of the Finnish player's army, I ended up bringing over 125 vehicles (about 50 of which I managed to paint beforehand), 123 stands of infantry (51 of which I painted beforehand), 15 guns (7 painted), and 4 planes. Bonus points if you can identify all the tanks and vehicles on the road table.

Ah man that looks like a blast. I had the pleasure participating in a similar type mega game (brigade commander in a multi corp level 20+ player reenactment of the battle of 2nd Manassas/bull run from the civil war) right as I was getting into wargaming. It was by far the coolest game I'd ever been a part of. It seems like you guys get to do these big engagements frequently, I'm quite jealous.

My project for September is to finish my Italian Front themed British army. Below is the entire army, as it stands now, representing a battle group drawn from British V Corps in early spring of 1945. I've put a decent amount of research into the group, and while it's not 100% historically accurate, it's "historically plausible" given what was in the theater at the time. Here's the task at hand, by component... 2nd New Zealand Division These are the infantry and Sherman companies in the center. Most of this is done, but I need to add a bunch of divisional decals to the vehicles and guns. I also have a platoon of Vickers MMGs on order to add to the infantry company. - Paint the Stuart Jalopies (counts-as Bren Carriers with .50 cals). - Paint MMG platoon - Decal festival Italian Combat Group "Cremona"They're the metal guys and bren carriers on the right of the picture. I stumbled into this as a fun little addition due to some lucky finds with unique metal models for British late war infantry. They're an Italian Co-Belligerent Army unit made up of Italian soldiers who were on Corsica at the time of the armistice in 1943. Re-equipped with British kit, they're represented here by a small motor company. - Paint the HQ - Paint 3 Infantry Platoons - Paint 6 Bren Carriers North Irish HorseRepresented by the Churchills and older Stuart tanks in the back (save for the AVRES), the North Irish Horse was part of the 21st tank brigade and served from Tunisia to the end of the Italian campaign. The HQ tank is one of the upgraded Churchill VIIs, a rarity in the Italian theater. The rest are Mk. IVs. Some of them still mount 6pdr guns, but most are IV-NA conversions; essentially ripping the 6pdr out of the turret and installing a Sherman's 75mm gun and mantlet in it's place. The Stuarts form a recce section, and are the older M3 variant, which stuck around for a while in the Italian front in British use. - Paint Churchill platoon - Paint Stuart recce platoon Divisional/Corps SupportThese are the tank destroyers, tanks, artillery, and anti tank guns and other stuff on the left side of the pic. The platoon of Sherman M4A1(76m) tanks is drawn from the 6th Armoured division (held in army reserve), issued to the Brits make up for the lack of Fireflies in the theater. They let me use a very good allied "American" unit but still keep the British theme. The defrocked priests are drawn from a Canadian transportation unit, and the AVREs in the back will be from the Royal Engineers. Everything else is from the 2nd New Zealand - Finish the AVRE section - Paint the Sherman OP (the one with the infantry guys sitting behind the turret) Total: 17 vehicles, 23 stands of infantry. Once it's all done, I'll take it to my local store and get some decent pictures.

Its truly a thing of beauty haha. But seriously the research is hands down the best part of historical wargaming. Do you use the osprey books?

Its truly a thing of beauty haha. But seriously the research is hands down the best part of historical wargaming. Do you use the osprey books? Sometimes! I mostly use them for tank markings and the like, and for ideas for campaigns or events that I run at my local store. My D-Day themed British army (sitting just out of shot) has seen me diving into reference books for allied tanks in Normandy quite a bit. Most of the time I just look the info up on Battlefront's website. They have a HUGE archive of articles on various units, vehicles, and campaigns that sit somewhere between wikipedia articles and Osprey books on detail. Every time I google a nugget of information that's even only mildly obscure, invariably one of the first results is a Battlefront article. Most of the info and research I've done for this army has been through their website (and some of their old army books from previous editions).

I'll have to check their website out. When I was doing my mid/latewar Brits, I was desperately plundering old war records from way too many sources to put my welsh/Irish guard together.

So, I know I pledged to finish my Italian Front brits, but two things have gotten in the way. 1. I purchased a condo! Packing is complicating hobby things at the moment, though. 2. I found out the long-delayed US book for the Battle of the Bulge is coming out, which, uh, sparked another project... Sorry for the crap picture, I'll take more detailed shots when everything is done. Long story short, I'm now collecting and painting a full strength U.S. tank battalion. Right now I have two Sherman companies and a Stuart company, plus a platoon of 3 armored mortar halftracks and the M4 Sherman 105 assault guns grouped together in a single battery of six. The Shermans are organized out of the the rulebook for D-Day Americans, meaning I can only take 5 76mm Shermans per company and they all have to be in a single platoon. This is inaccurate and dumb, and I sincerely hope this changes in the Bulge book. The plan is to have the following units. - A Company: This will be exclusively M4A1s in the D-Day organization. The 1st platoon has tank riders aboard in the unlikely event I want to use them. - B Company: Exclusively M4A3s. I'm hoping to reorganize this using the Bulge formation to include more 76mm shermans. - C Company: This will be a "true" late war company, mixing M4s, M4A3s and M4A3E8s, Jumbos, and M4A1s. I need the book before I can start on it though. - D Company: The US insisted the Stuart was a viable combat unit until it was replaced with the M24 Chaffee, but most battalions used them for escort, light duties, or to draw replacement crews. 1st Platoon is kitted out with sandbags and ablative armor so I can run them into units if pinned Panzergenadiers to knock them off objectives. I may swap this out with a Chaffee company later since I already have 10. Finishing this is predicated on getting my hands on the new army book and the box set that comes with it, but I hope to have everything done by mid November.

Well, I've finally settled enough into my new place to start painting again. Here's one new (and some old) units while I gear up to churn out some stuff for the next mega battle! A Sherman Croc conversion. The flame projector is located on the top of the hull to the left of the turret in this shot. 4 of these were used in Europe by the US Army (a different model went to the Pacific). This was an experimental scheme for my SS tanks to distinguish them from my Heer armor. Turned out rather well in my opinion. Can't remember if I shared one of these, but this is a Panther G in my Heer scheme, badged for the 13th Panzer Division.

M36 tank destroyers, freshly painted (you can't tell from this angle but the one second from the left has a guy peeking out from under the tarp. Behind them are two platoons of M4A3 Sherman variants. Panther G's in the same scheme as the tiger above, badged for the 1st SS division. They're going to be part of my German winter army (as will the infantry and Jagdpanzer IV's in shot).
