Troops:
12 fire warriors: 120
12 fire warriors: 120
Fast Attack:
Barracuda w/ Ion cannon, twin-linked missile pod, 2 burst cannons, disruption pod: 145
Heavy Support:
Skyray w/ disruption pod, sensor spines: 135
Deployment:
My buddy wins the roll of and decides to go second.
Tau: I deploy the piranha wing on my left flank and the ghostkeel in the centre of the board. Meanwhile the ethereal joins up with a firewarrior team and deploys in the ruins on my right whilst the skyray deploys on the far right, the second unit of firewarriors protecting it's vulnerable rear armor. Everything else stays in reserve.
Deathwatch: The dreadnought deploys in the ruins on my far left, everything else stays in reserve.
Turn 1:
Tau:
Movement: The Piranhas move 12" towards the dreadnought in the ruins, the Ghost keel head toward the ruins in the centre of the board.
Shooting: The Piranhas open fire on the Dreadnought, and despite the lack of markerlight support manage to score a penatrating hit that results in an 'Immobilized'
Assault: The Ghostkeel jumps into the Central ruins
Deathwatch:
Movement: The drop pod comes in from reserve and the disembarking marines position to get side armor shots at my skyray.
Shooting: The Dreadnought opens fire on one of the Piranhas but the agile skimmer jinks causing all shots to miss. Meanwhile the Skyray is not so lucky: the meltagun blows of one of the markerlights despite the 3+ jink.
Turn 2:
Tau:
Movement: The battlesuit cadre comes in from reserves, as does the Barracuda. The single suit lands near the objective I need to grab, the pair of plasma suits scatter 11" towards the central ruins. The commander and the two missile pods land in the center of my opponents deployment zone: ready to aim their marker drones at the dread. The riptide and the broadside both scatter out of sight of the killteam. The ethereal uses "storm of fire", giving the fire warriors an extra shot at half range. The firewarriors behind the skyray move up, and the skyray moves backwards. The Barracuda tries to get the Killteam in its sights, but only manages to get his burst cannons in LoS.
Shooting: The drones use their markerlights on the dread, but despite being BS5 due to the commander only score two hits. Two of the piranha's use a markerlight each to boost their ballistic skill, but fail to damage the dread. The Firewarriors light up the killteam with about 50 pulse shots; killing the entire team and scoring first blood. The chaplain attached to the team survives and takes cover behind the pod. The broadside runs to get LoS on the pod
Assault: The suits jump around to take cover in the ruins, the lone suit grabs the objective he was after.
Deathwatch:
Movement: The flyer and one killteam arrive from reserve, they use the beacon carried by the Chaplain. The chaplain joins the unit that just teleported next to him.
Shooting: 2 heavy flamers, 2 flamer template shotguns, and a bunch of bolter shots demolish the firewarrrior squad that's out in the open. The pod takes a shot at the second unit of firewarriors but does nothing. The dread shoots at another piranha, but it passes all the jink saves.
Turn 3:
Tau:
Movement: The Barracuda moves to intercept the Blackstar. The ethereal invokes "storm of fire" again, whilst the riptide moves up to get a clean LoS against the killteam.
The firewarriors and suits shuffle around a bit to get LoS
Shooting: The riptide overcharges its gun and scores a direct hit on the killteam, vaporizing most of the squad. Combined fire from the firewarriors and the skyray kill the remainder.. but the chaplain survives once more. The broadside blows up the droppod with the help of some long range plasma shots from the battlesuits. The dread loses a hullpoint to combined to the piranhas. My warlord activates his warlord trait and shoots at the flyer, forcing it to jink (with rerolls) but scoring a hullpoint none the less.
Assault: I forget to jump my suits due to the break, but they are all in a decent position so it does not matter.
Deathwatch:
Movement: Enraged by having his brothers blown to bits the chaplain moves towards the firewarriors by himself
Shooting: The dread fails to damage a piranha again, whilst the chaplain throws a frag grenade at my firewarriors. The grenade misses, but could have done far more damage then a single bolt pistol. The flyers has more luck; killing 4 marker drones and putting a wound on a battlesuit.
Assault: The chaplain attampts to assault the unit guarding the Ethereal, but is mowed down by overwatch from the firewarriors and the broadside.
Turn 4:
Tau:
Movement: The skyrays moves up a bit whilst the cuda chases the flyer. everything else holds it's position.
Shooting: The barracuda shoots down the flyer. The piranha's blow up the dread. And there is nothing left to shoot at.
Deathwatch:
Movement: The two remaining killteams come in from reserve. The main team including the warlord and libby lands next to my commander, but an intercepting riptide kills 5. The small team land near my lone suit.
Psychic: The librarian attempts "ignore cover" and "prescience". One is denied the other fails to go off.
Shooting: Frag cannons, bolters, and other stuff wipe out my commander and his team. The small squad runs for cover.
Turn 5:
Tau:
Movement: The ghostkeel jumps down, other units move around for LoS.
Shooting: Everything except the lone suit opens up on the Killteam containing the commander; killing the unit outright
Deathwatch:
Movement: The brothers of the last remaining killteam move further towards the lone suit, hungry for revenge for their fallen brothers
Shooting: The killteam opens fire with vengeance round, losing a single brother in the process; they kill a shield drone and put a wound on the suit.
We decide to end the game here... the 4 remaining Deathwatch Marines are facing about 1350 points worth of Tau and those odds are impossible even for the hardened Brothers of the Deathwatch.
