With the holidays on the horizon in the states I'm gonna be coming into the possession of expendable cash and have been looking into adding some Imperial Navy fliers into my guard army. The two fliers that stand out the most to me is the Vulture Gunship and the Avenger Strike Fighter, both would be awesome additions to my army. What do you guys think? Are these fliers worth investing in? Are there other fliers I'm looking over?

They are both great flyers (and cool models) so either one is worth getting in my book. The Vulture has a lot of weapon choices available, but is best at shredding infantry and vehicles. It can put a silly ammount of hits on a unit when configured a certain way (say a twin-linked punisher cannon, or 4 multiple rocket pods), the ammount of hits combined with decent strength means you can often force enough saves to remove marines or terminators too, and glance armour 10-11 to death. The Avenger works great against meq units, but can also hurt light to medium vehicles. it does not have the massive amount of shots the vulture has, but they are higher strength and they ignore most armour saves. Another (imho) cool option would be the Thunderbolt, it's more of a vehicle hunter. It has auto- and las-cannons, and can take different types of bombs/missiles. You can equip it to hunt enemy flyers or to attack ground targets, and it will do both tasks well. I personally think you can't go wrong with any of those 3, they are all cool looking planes with decent to good rules. So get the one you think is the best looking

Echoing what Nutty has said, just get the one you think looks cool and fits in with your army.
I've Bought a Voss Lighten strike for Xmas, it looks cool, 6 Hell Strike Missiles, Twin Las-cannon and it's the only Vostroyan Model Forge World do.
Look forward to hearing your purchase.
