Hi,
can anyone tell me if you can deepstrike infantry and then enter ongoing reserves during the shooting phase of the same turn?
it feels like this is dangerously powerful, i have found a rule which prevents flyers from doing this but not for infantry.

Well I know if you deep strike off the table you go into ongoing reserve but I don't know of any specific rule saying you can or can't during the shooting phase. I'll check when I get my rule book in my hands.

How would you enter ongoing reserves during the shooting phase? There are only a handfull of units that can voluntarily move of the table and enter reserves.

shooting phase also includes running, this query also covers movement in assault phase.
the units in question have access to a 'multi-phase key generator' which acts as an entry and exit point for models coming from and going to reserve.

Unless the unit has a rule that says they can choose to move/run/jetpack-jump of the table to order ongoing reserves.. they can't.
It should say so somewhere in the first pages of the rulebook where they talk about dice, statlines, etc. And goes something like "no model may ever voluntarily move of the table".
Flyers and the Tau Piranha formation are the only units I know of that can choose to enter ongoing reserves.

ah ha.
thank you empty!
I figured it was a bit too much to be able to deepstrike, shoot, run, and then thrust into ongoing reserves.
as it is, the movement, run then thrust distance that Corsair Jet Packs get (due to their Reckless Abandon ability) gives them a lot of options. (to run away and hide)
Added to this the potential psychic boost to a target unit which means all random rolls for movement are 6's this becomes huge.
Seems like Empty has resolved my question, though I have now aware that an aethermancy psychic power would enable one unit to be placed in ongoing reserves - but you'd need to get that lucky roll on the psychic table to get it... and its worth remembering that corsair psychics are seriously dodgy due to their increased danger from perils of the warp.
I need to get the book to know for certain... lucky its that time of year.
nutty: I appreciate that I wasn't being very clear about the unit in question, your answer is also valid!
