Fellow commanders, I like my guard, I usually run two combined squads with priests, 3-4 russes and 2 wyverns. Lately I got really excited by the look and fluff of the deathwatch and would like to build an allied detacthment. What would be the optimal way (from a gaming perspective) of doing so. Have you detected any possible synergies that would work well. It seems to me that deathwatch can produce some very different lists, but which unity or formation could possible bring something the guard lacks? The Emperor Protects Also, Remember CADIA (we should end every message with this now, I guess)

With this sort of thing, it's best to ask "What can they do that I normally can't?", and the Deathwatch can do EVERYTHING but take casualties (or bolt pistols. Don't get me started on that). I don't know if you've seen their rules or not, but a basic veteran squad is arguably the most flexible troop unit in the game. You can kit them out for CC, like sternguard with combi weapons, or with the bolter/shotgun combo, keeping them cheap(ish) and still flexible by using their special ammo.
In this case, I'd suggest a simple five man squad with two or three combi meltas, and the rest carrying bolters and shotguns. I can't recall off the top of my head if the Corvus is a dedicated transport option, but I know you can go for a razorback. That'll fill the same role as Melta Vets, but make them a little tougher and a little more versatile. Just be careful, since they eat up points fast.

I agree with Reds that Allies are best used to do the stuff your main army can't, or to further enhance the Strengths of your main army. Marines are pretty flexible in what roles they can perform and Deathwatch especially so. Complementing the guard should not be a problem for them.
So you need to have a look at the rest of the list you are running, what they can and can not do, and if the Deathwatch can do it for them.
Looking at the components of your list: - 1-2 blobs - 3-4 Russes - 2 wyverns
It's pretty clear that your guard army (like a lot of guard armies) is not very mobile. Infantry blobs and Russes are pretty slow; the odds of them capturing an objective in your opponents deployment zone is pretty slim. Playing Maelstrom with an army like that can be a pain in the rear.
My guard army is pretty slow as well; I often have two platoons and about 5 Leman Russ tanks. But they are backed up by a scion platoon and some sentinels to capture objectives and harass the enemy. Deathwatch marines could easily do what these units do, so I'd personally use them for that.
They are expensive for this role (regular marines capture points just as well) but they are able to do a lot more damage in the process. Special ammo and a few meltaguns mean they can hurt just about any unit in the game.
A small squad of veterans can perform the same role as scions; but are more likely to kill stuff without support. And lone bikers (or small squads) can zoom around the board doing damage and capturing points.

Well having tried the sentinel cure to my mobility problem I can say the results are limited. It is indeed always funny to tie up an infantry unit for 2-3 rounds with an armored sentinel but 9 inches avarage movement peturn are by no definition fast. I have also tried scions. Seems to me they are a real fun unit but they sort of want to be murdered (seeing as they are quite vulnerable and short range). I will definitely try making an allied detachment with a squad in droppod and a unit of bikers (Thinking librarian HQ to get access to these new Astarted psychic powers) If it works for me I may invest in the bat-plane. Thank you for your input.

With the agents of the imperium book you can now ally in a single vet squad with a corfu to any imperial army.
