I'm with Mac... With snap fire being an issue, focus on the hull mounted weapon that uses a Template. Nice mop up weapon too after you drop the pie plate of doom. You seem well on your way to getting that regiment in good shape, now, you seem to have found the direction you wish to expand in. Carry on soldier... And welcome to the Guard son... Dave

I'm all the time I have played Guard, I don't know that I have ever lost to another guard player. I credit most of that to using hull mounted flamer on every loving piece of armor. Remember playing one guy who was very pleased with taking the turret off my demolisher. Next turn I tank shocked his bubble wrap squad off the board and roasted his CCS. Then proceeded to kill another 30 guardsmen with an AV heavy flame thrower over the next couple turns. Completely wrecked his army because he thought he had disabled the demolisher lol.

I learned the value of the humble front facing flamer at one of the UK Get together. Me, Emptyhat and Gabriel Lupus were having a triple threat match, Orks vs Guard vs Guard. I sent my Boyz steaming at Empty, while my looted wagon with Big shoota and a heavy skorcha (?)
Gabriel put down some hefty fire turn one, got a weapon destroyed and picked to remove the big shoota.. While advancing an entire Plasma vet squad between 2 Chimeras. This proved to be a bad move ad the template covered the whole squad, and wiped them out to a man.. That looted Wagon was a brutal piece of work... 35 points and rammed Chems 260 something point Sexecutioner, and wrecked it.... That was an amazing weekend!

@dave: It's like those knickers you get when you buy four newky browns on St. George's day.

Sooooooo.......its been a while, but i have been collecting. A lot.
Heres my current IG list.
1849 point army
3 combined infantry squad (30 dudes) and platoon command squad ( points combined together) 310 points
4 flamers (1 in command squad)
3 vox casters (1 in command squad)
2 Plasma Guns (command squad) Chimera dedicated transport (Command squad)
Heavy weapon squad, Missle launchers (flakk) 90 points
Veteran squad w/2 meltas, heavy flamer and chimera 155 points
Wyvern 65 points
Leman Russ Squadron
1 Vanquisher w/lascannon, tank commander (175)
1 Battle tank , heavy bolter (150) 325 Points
Leman Russ Squadron
1 Punisher W/melta sponsons, lascannon and Pask (210)
Leman Russ Demolisher W/bolter (170)
Leman Russ Exterminator W/bolter and bolter sponsons (150) 530 Points
Valkyrie W/multi rocket pods 135 Points
tempestus scions (7) 94 points (mounted in Valkyrie)
Tempestus Command squad 3 plasma guns, (mounted in Valkrie) 140 points
Total 1844 points.
Couple notes: some of these leman russes i have are second hand, where not magnatized and they used a ton of glue. So some of the options arent all that great, but its all i have to work with. Also, im worried about my lack of air support. not sure 1 Missle Squad is enough.
So, should my Valkyrie keep the hellstrike missles and swap multi-laser with lascannon to give it a little umph against other flyers (and yes, im magnetizing it to give it a Vendetta option, just dont have all those lascannons yet)
Or, should a convert my Wyvern into a Hydra?
If i do that, should i swap my HWT for something else, like Autocannons?
Thanks in advance!

Who are you likely to be playing against? At this point in super-late, almost gone 7th AA options seem to be nasty enough that most people aren't relying on flyers anymore. When you do run into flyers you'll have one of two situations with your missile squad: Prog 1 There will be one flyer and it isn't vital to your opponent's plans, your flakk will maybe hurt or destroy it while it does a bit of damage to you. Prog 2 There will be 1 or probably a lot more flyers that have a vital role in the enemy's plans, you T3 flak squad will be marked for death by your opponent from the start and picked off very quickly, unless you hide them away enough that they probably aren't providing mush AA anyway.

Looks like a good start The points for the flak squad seems a bit off though: you have to buy an upgraded missile launcher for each team. Personally I use fortifications when I feel I need Anti-Air. An Aegis defenseline with quadgun cost less than a heavy weapons squad with 3 flakk launchers. Furthermore It provides a nice cover save for a good chunk of your army, has an extra shot, and it's twin-linked. I do like using heavy weapon teams/squads though; but I usually take either lascannons (as part of an infantry 'blob' squad), autocannons (heavy weapons squad or blob) and sometimes mortars (heavy weapons squad). Heavy weapons squads are pretty vulnerable and often get taken out first; as str6 weapons cause instant-death to them, so you essentially have a 3 wound squad with a 5+ armor save. Giving that squad 75 points worth of gear is a big risk in my opinion, so I tend to give them cheaper weapons (autocannon or mortar).
