After reading the Militarum Tempestus codex I've been thinking about the organisation of the Storm-Trooper regiments.
Initially I was going to make my Stormies from the same regiment and world as my guard, like Krieg have their own grenadier corps. However after reading through the details about how the Schola Progenium raises MT regiments it's kind of thrown a spanner into the works because MT aren't from one world; they're orphans of the higher echelons of Imp society, drawn from many sectors.
Another thing : I didn't realise that the Ministorum runs the whole Schola Progenium, making Stormies and commissars mini priests on the side.
I've already started painting my stormies the same colour as my guard so I'm thinking of making them another regiment which assigns storm trooper platoons into other guard regiments. In the case of seconding the stormies to either feral barbarian world guard or chem troops they change their uniforms slightly to prevent friendly fire incidents. At least that way I can explain why the stormies and guard have the same uniforms.

For mine I just said they were heavy shock troop regiments from my planet. Like basically something like the 75th Rangers with improved armor. I'm sure most planets have elite regiments that would wear improved carapace armor that would explain the scion models.

I think for the Chem Dogs the most elite they can be is Veteran, so I need to justify why they have the same armour, fatigues and army symbol as the Stormies. The army symbol can just be a campaign badge.
The Scions can still be garrisoned on the same planet but they don't take the planet name, just the name of their Schola Progenium.

Isn't savlar a prison world? Maybe you can fit them in a sort of MP/warden kind of role? I imagine a re-breather & carapace armor are pretty crucial if working a job like that.

Not all guard with chem-inhalers are Savlar. Mine are recruited from the hive city gangers and scum of Ektos, which isn't an open air prison. Originally the army I made in 2008 had Rough Riders so some camel jockey wastelanders get recruited from the outer wastes. The only policing that they get are from the regimental commissars, but I suppose the Scions could help the commissars out when they feel outnumbered.
Anyway the Scions can't be Chem Dogs, so I'm trying to think of a fearsome bird to name the Scion regiment. There are too many Eagles and Falcons in the MT codex as it stands so maybe the Mian 86th Sparrows, or something like that.

The 42nd Synthetic Cassowary Fall-folly. The 26th Catnip Bluebird Junkers. The 78th Ravenhounds. The 133rd Seaguses* Swoop Regiment. *a seaguses has the body of a horse but the wings and head of a seagull; combining the cruelty and flight of a seagull with the size and speed of a horse.

That's some evil animal splicing. Just trying to picture how loud a seaguss would be compared to common gulls. Ark! Ark! Forgive me; I appear to have misplaced my marbles..

It has been a while since I looked over my fluff, but I think I just had a Schola hidden somewhere on my volcanic death world. That makes it more understandable for the Scions to have a similar culture and close organisation/logistical links with my Guard. Then again, my world is a weird Imperial Hive and Mechanicus mashup, so I have an excuse to do whatever I like! As for the animal, I recently discovered the Chough, whilst reading about the HMS Hood. Could look pretty nice with the contrast of black body and red bill. Also, I am rather partial to crows because of their intelligence. You also have the pun of sounding a bit like cough, which I imagine your chem addicted scum would be doing regularly.

Is it pronounced 'choff'? I would have thought it would be a 'chow', as in chow-mein. It has a nice bill for a crow, quite slender compared to a carrion crow bill.
What's the connection with the bird and ship?

I feel like it's pronounced as "chuff".

OK - I don't think I've ever seen one. We usually get carrion crows and magpies in London. You also have the pun of sounding a bit like cough, which I imagine your chem addicted scum would be doing regularly. This would lead to confused orders, as they aren't competent enough for vox-casters, but if they were told they were being supported by deep strike insertion Choughs *cough*, then it would just cause mass confusion.

Yeah me too. Also in London. The only birds I see close up are the ones my cat brings in. Which I then, as a Paramedic, I feel duty and morally bound to try and save. Not often successful on that front.
If you're looking for a hardy and courageous British bird don't underestimate the Robin. Hardy and tough. Flourish in the cold of winter. And most notably, will defend their nest, eggs and young to the death.
A pair made a nest in my old garage a few years ago. My girlfriend and I once saw Mom and Pop Robin attacking a cat that had wandered too close. Making a right old row and taking turns to literally dive bomb the caton its head.
I've got to say I was impressed by their commitment and aggression.
But I don't know if "The Ektos Robins" is punchy enough? ''The Robins - Ektos Drop Assault Squadron". ''Ektos Airborne Attack Robins".
Nope. I can't really make it work. You may have more luck.

West London?
Robins are very cute but I prefer carrion crows, as Trickstick was saying they're very intelligent.
In the current Tempestus codex the regiments never take the world name, the regiment might be barracked on a world but the Scions are usually from a variety of worlds and then assigned to a base on one world or sent out to assist other Imperials. The regiments in the codex have a Greek alphabet letter with an -ic or -an suffix depending and then a regiment number and a nickname. I chose Mian, for the letter 'm', although the base could be on Ektos, it would be in a remote inaccessible area, like a high mountain.

I should have known that as I have that codex. So would they have a name with "Mianic" in it then ? The Mianic Maniacs.
I served on a Para unit many years ago but we just had a number. No name as such. Our crest had a nick name though. Nothing glamorous or punchy I'm afraid ... "The Flying Turd".
Crows are pretty cool I must admit. They're like streetwise and savvy if you know what I mean.
I'm just outside West London but inside the M25. Between the Kingston and Epsom GW stores.

I think the names just act as a designation, like the Kappic 88th Eagles shown in the end times book as they accompany Inquisitor Katrina from the triumvirate. I used to go to the Richmond store before they shut it, now I go to Tottenham Court Road or Chiswick. I can get to central quite fast and Chiswick is near work. The small stores seem to be shut half the week these days, TCR has long opening hours. Crows are quite sweet to you when you feed them directly/ indirectly. They observe and then eventually follow you around and cry out for your attention. Need to go and hang around in cemetaries..

You should call them the crows. You want to so do it. The "Carrion He'll Crows" or something.
I've actually talked myself into giving my "2nd Drop Assault Squadron" the nickname of "Hell's Thunder Robins". And they'll have an appropriare background fluff too ... They'll be no 3 wheeled mocking after you read it !!!

The unknown Robin Trooper was the only member of his squad to exit the stricken Valkyrie before it crashed into the surface of the enemy held planet with an ear splitting explosion. No other unit from the 2nd Drop Assault Squadron had managed to advance this deep into the enemy held installation. It was the main objective that had to be taken for the mission to be a success. But the Robin Trooper remembered that he was a "Hell's Thunder Robin" and the target was fixed in his steely glare. His vision blurred as he plummeted down ... Terminal velocity attained ... 'No point giving the enemy an easy target to shoot at", he thought as the target steadily grew in his blurred vision. The onset of "ground rush" widened his eyes ... His jump instructors voice boomed in his head,
''Robins !!! Don't let ''ground rush'' be the last thing you see" !!!
He deployed his descent devices at the last safe moment and flared almost too late to survive the drop. But the descent slowed to make way too easy a target for the resistance. Amid air burst and ground burst, wild automatic fire and desperate attempts at precision sniper fire The `Robin Trooper achieves a perfect spot landing. He takes and holds the target while surpressing enemy depth positions. Keying in his comms set he screams to any and all of his surviving command ...
''POSITION CLEAR ... OBJECTIVE SECURED !!!"

I was going for Rad Crows but Rad Robins could fit. They are the right colour and thrushes could easily survive in a nuclear, toxic wasteland outside the hive cities, especially if the AdMech biologolis dept tinker with their genetics. There are lots of rad worms and slime-lizards to feast on. The main question is whether the camel riding wastelanders would hunt Rad Robins for food or whether they would just be considered too dangerous. I've never been to the TCR store. I should have really as it's the biggest in the UK isn't it ? It's open a lot of hours compared to other stores. I think they close 22:00 most weekdays and are 7 days most of the time, so it's great for those of us that work messed up hours. In terms of table space it's not that impressive. Warhammer World in Notts has the most gaming space and there are loads of independant stores that have lots of table space, especially out of town. I like Dice Saloon in Brighton as they have toasted sandwiches, hot/ cold beverages and lots of tables, and you can eat and drink on your table too, it's more of a café but they have some stock - GW or other manufacturers like Infinity.
