I like the Salamander one for sure. Gives them a way to constantly save plasma, and is just generally always going to be used

It essentially lets you make clutch shots with special or heavy weapons (or hits with melee) without having to lean on a character bubble.

Codex - $50 (weren't they supposed to be cheaper in 8th?) Box o' 10 Reivers- $60 Redemptor Dread- $60 Aggressors- $50 I'm probably picking up the Aggressors and maaaaybe the dread through some place that offers a discount, but I'm not grabbing the Reivers for that price. That's just stupid. What was your source for this gen Reds ? And any hint of release dates anywhere ?

IF Reivers weren't so expensive I'd pick a five-man box up. Buuuut I can wait, I have enough with my scouts and termies. Just need to get a termie lib.

Iron Hands stratagem lets their vehicles move and shoot heavy weapons without penalties. That's nice, but I feel like that's less of a huge deal for Marines than it is for, say, Guard (or Orks). I'm also interested to find out if the stratagems last all game or if they're one turn.

I htink you spend 1cp to gain the stratagem for a turn but I could be wrong.

I think I'll pick up First Strike since I was already feeling sold on the Nurgle models from it and buying them would cost £20 vs £25 for the set. I don't really have anything to do with the admittedly cool looking Reivers if you wanted those.

From today's article on the GW community site...
Looks like we're getting rules for different types of regiments.

I thought we were getting whole infantry squads with twin-linked grav guns on anti- grav segways.

So instead of writing a report that's already a few days late I've been watching youtube vids about 8th ed stuff all day. Watched a review of the new Marines codex and sadly ... no Primaris flyer.
Could the Overlord super heavy Primaris Marine flying transport be just a vicious rumour designed to dupe naive saps such as myself ? Surely the internettery would not contain such evil ... Damn them.
I will have my Primaris Marine flyer... even if I have to bodge a couple of Storm Raven wings onto the side of a repulsor tank ... I will have my flyer !!!
In other news ... pre order repulsor tanks next week.

The repulsor can now hold 10 at least, so it's fairly less stupid. I still think they need another transport option, but whatever. I'm running mine as Imperial Fists successors so the Inceptors and Intercessors can take advantage of all the bolter bonuses. I can't wait for those infantry boxes, they should be pretty cool.
*Edit* And now I've seen the rules for the Repulsor. It's disgusting. Here's the highlights from the anti infantry build... - x2 Gatling cannons, putting out a total of 24 Str 5 AP -1 shots - Twin heavy bolters - x3 Storm Bolters - Heavy Stubber - Power of the Machine Spirit so those 39 shots fire at full BS.
I may need two. One in that configuration, and one for AT (Lastalon and twin lascannons instead of one of the gatlings and the HBs).

Just like Space Wolves are your gateway to the older kits, regular SM always get experimental spacecraft whenever they get a new codex. Expect Death from The Skies Part Deux, even though 8th seems to contain everything from DfTS.
I'm still a bit annoyed that the Stormhawk rules for 7th are buried in a pile of books in DfTS... Going to have to do some heavy lifting there..

All we need is the option to take 2 special weapons per infantry squad (1 in lieu of a heavy weapon), and 5pt heavy stubbers as special weapons.
Sheer weight of fire will triumph.

The 'science' is simples. If mallard ducks can fly, pigs can also fly, ergo hovercraft, mini coupes and land raiders can also fly.

This is not a rant. I've had a few games of 8th now and I have actually started to miss a few things.
I'm still deploying units well spaced out. Force of habit and or tactical common sense. Evading those blast markers that no longer exist. I actually think I miss them because that's how it's done in reality.
Removing a unit's casualties that are closest to the weapon that shot them ... because obviously. Guardsman thinks, "Hmm ... that kabalite is just about to run me through ... within a second. But I think I'll use that second to try and slot that sneaky bugger hanging around in the rear".
Weapon arcs. A vindicator should not be able to fire a demolished shell from it's exhaust pipe. I'm fine with infantry being quick to turn on the spot and acquire a target quickly. That's the nature of infantry. Vehicles just don't move that quick.
Vehicle armour facings. It forced the player to consider how the vehicle was positioned in conjunction with the weapon arcs. And I miss out manoeuvring the opposition and delivering a Melta Enema. But I agree it has made resolution easier. Where does a Hammerhead's front end and it's side begin ? I was never able to tell.
"Going to ground". I could have done with a bit of that last night and it's what you'd do for real.
"Pinning". Because that's what surpessive fire is meant to do. I could have done with a bit of that last night too.
Difficult and Dangerous terrain. Because it made you think about deployment, movement and positioning. Although immobilising a Land Raider on a 1 was always stupid. It needed revising.
I still can't get my head around this game without relating it to reality. I still have to think of the psychic powers in the context of ECM, ECCM, Int and Counter Int.
