The unknown Robin Trooper was the only member of his squad to exit the stricken Valkyrie before it crashed into the surface of the enemy held planet with an ear splitting explosion. No other unit from the 2nd Drop Assault Squadron had managed to advance this deep into the enemy held installation. It was the main objective that had to be taken for the mission to be a success. But the Robin Trooper remembered that he was a "Hell's Thunder Robin" and the target was fixed in his steely glare. His vision blurred as he plummeted down ... Terminal velocity attained ... 'No point giving the enemy an easy target to shoot at", he thought as the target steadily grew in his blurred vision. The onset of "ground rush" widened his eyes ... His jump instructors voice boomed in his head, ''Robins !!! Don't let ''ground rush'' be the last thing you see" !!! He deployed his descent devices at the last safe moment and flared almost too late to survive the drop. But the decelerating descent slowed to make him a clear and easy a target for the enemy resistance. Amid air burst and ground burst, wild automatic fire and desperate attempts at precision sniper fire. The `Robin Trooper achieves a perfect spot landing. He takes and holds the target while surpressing enemy depth positions. Keying in his comms set he screams to any and all of his surviving command ... ''POSITION CLEAR ... OBJECTIVE SECURED !!!"

I need to video the local starlings dive-bombing the cakes and seeds. Sometimes they go all the way from the top of an iron spike on top of a church, right down to ground level and flip over to land at the last second. I can't think of a more agile bird - blue tits are smaller but they do fluttering leaps.

Starlings ... that could be a good name for airbourne unit. Got a kind of double entendre there. Good if you want to keep away from the multitude of units that name themselves after "Eagles'' and ''Hawks'' and whatever flying crocodile you may find. Blue tits are cool looking but they do get beaten up all the time. Crow is still good though. Crow however in Brit Mil speak refers to a worthless recruit type person.

A Blue Tit getting "Kung-Fu'd" by a Robin. It is clear that this Partcular Tit has been tainted by Chaos. You can tell by the black stripe across eyes.

Chaos blue tits! Abaddon's spies are everywhere. Crow however in Brit Mil speak refers to a worthless recruit type person. That's interesting. Do you flavour it with a few adjectives? If crows are bad recruits, what do you call the elites?

Yes, the term Crow could be used with several prefixes and suffixes. The specific amount of prefixes and suffixes would depend upon the particular recruits (or someone recently out of basic training) mistake or general inadequacy. Incidentally "Crow" in this context is singular and plural.
Referring to an individual - "sort your admin out crow", Referring to a training platoon "Crow is not to an acceptable standard. Crow will be beasted to encourage Crow to meet the required standards".
Elites were known by many terms. And it usually depended upon the theatre we were in. However generally, SAS were sometimes known as "Blades". Not absolutely sure but I think it's because they were organised into "Sabre Squadrons". SBS were sometimes known as "Shakies". Because they have a history of paddling towards their target in canoes which are usually quite unstable. So some joked that SBS stood for "Shakey Boat Squadron".
Or often where the elite unit are from. "Hereford Bloke". "The bunch from Poole". Some bird from "Moscow Barracks". The Australian SAS are based in Perth and I once heard them being referred to as "The Perth Lot".
Sometimes on a particular theatre or operation the SF contingent were organised into a single group with an obscure name to detract attention.
So basically they could be called anything.
Sorry for rambling answer. You'll never get a concise post from me when my various injuries are playing up due to "the opioids effect".

When Crow was white he decided the sun was too white. He decided it glared much too whitely. He decided to attack it and defeat it.
He got his strength up flush and in full glitter. He clawed and fluffed his rage up. He aimed his beak direct at the sun's centre.
He laughed himself to the centre of himself
And attacked.
At his battle cry trees grew suddenly old, Shadows flattened.
But the sun brightened— It brightened, and Crow returned charred black.
He opened his mouth but what came out was charred black.
"Up there," he managed, "Where white is black and black is white, I won."

Turns out we have a lot of robins and other thrushes in our new back garden. I think the old owners used to feed birds, so there are hooks on the fence for me to buy hanging feeders.
Crow platoon - I'm borrowing that for my chem dogs. They need beasting.
