Hay guys I've been on this forum for awhile and just noticed the dwindling number of threads being created. No army lists or anything except a few painting and conversions that get posted. Just wondering if this thread is dieing out or just on a slow break

We will never die! Although we do spend a lot of time in the off-topic forum attacking each other with fish and seeing armadillos.

Not many army lists might be down to the new edition. The last edition was unpopular because of the amount of books you had to buy so they kicked off the new edition with more books to buy. I'm actually still trying to recover financially after the amount of 7th ed codexes I bought so have no idea about lists for the new edition yet. Unless you want me to post 7th ed lists? I can do that.

7th made me drop out of 40k for over a year. I think it was the appearance of the "get these units free" formations that did it. Getting a load of free transports was nonsense.

Yeah; I used my Gladius company formations against Emptyhat 3 times, with loads of free drop pods, rhinos and razorbacks. To his credit he did excellently against me; twice with Ork deff dreads FW lists and once with a weird guard/ Templars combo. All those tanks made it hard for me to manoeuvre but it was fun as a huge mechanised horde. The FW deff dread games against the Gladius were actually the most intense, fun games I've ever played; all those ork walkers could tear holes out of my marines but every unit was quite heavy on the anti tank. Fighting a Stompa is very unnerving too...

I think I only played 5 or less games in 7th. Currently all of my minis are packed away because I am moving in a month. Once I get moved and settled they may reemerge.

7th blew my tiny little mind. I'm not too bright generally but i did find certain rues that contradict reality really difficult to get a grips with. I hated the magic psyker stuff. I know its all part of the lore but I could only think of it in the context of "battlefield Intelligence" or "Electronic Counter Measures".
And 7th was so frustratingly complex. Like you Tricky, I tried it and gave up. I then only really focused on collecting armies and even thought about flogging my thousands of points and thousands of pounds worth of models on eBay.
I really hope 8th will have saved the hobby for me.

I can do that. You tend to softball your lists a bit, and play themed/fluffy stuff, so 7th formations with free units were quite good for balancing your play style because it tended to reward that. Grav was pretty crummy though. (rassam frassam no invulnerable saves for Orks, friggin riggin, immobilise my skorcha kans on a 6, grumble mumble).

Grav has been nerfed slightly for the new edition apparently. My later formation army only had one grav cannon in it, suppose I could have gone for more but they cost as much as a rhino. Although not as much as a free rhino

I just feel like there was a game where all three skorcha kanz from as quad got half done by grav immobilisation, lousy 2hp grots

There were way more lascannons on field; it was probably a lascannon being confused for grav. I had 3/ 6 tac squads with lascannons (OK so they lose a bit of mobility but make good AT snipers), 2 las razorbacks, a pred with all the l/cs, 2 devastator squads with 8 l/cs It was pure lascannonry... Plus the l/c on the devastators was evil because of all those rerolls - the Imperial Fist tank hunter rules combined with the Gladius formation full company rules where you also got the rerolls to hit for the Ultra chapter tactics.

When a snap firing lascannon takes down a stompa it's plucky, when a grav gun immobilises a skorcha walka it's fist shaking time.

If it was a guard conscript the grav cannon would have done nothing.
Considering making more marines with grav cannons as I don't have the heart to pull my painted one off its 25mm base. *shakes fist in the air*
That's another thing; why did they bother with rebasing marines if they were just going to make them extinct and replace them with megalodons?

I've had three games of 8th edition so far, I really like it as a rules system, very much looking forward to seeing the first codices and models and whatnot.

Just bought my index, but I don't play competitively so I'm not sure I care either edition. I play for calm camaraderie & cold soda pop. Further more... who's to say we can't get in a game of 7th? I like to play a couple games of the old edition when converting objectives and mission's in that one space marine gene stealer boxed set I'm having trouble naming right now. It helps but both edition's in context.

At that point, let's have a game of 4th, so I can use my snipers.

I haven't really played since 8th came out. I do have a game scheduled for this thursday so that might help me get back into it... and get back to painting/posting.

Eighth is fun but I feel lacks the same feel of the old editions. It's more or less the same as age of sigmar which for simplicity sake it is great but it loses the narrative in my opinion.

I stopped playing in 5th, and I build/paint/base/varnish Guardsmen (well, renegade OPFOR and amoral mercenaries, but what's new there?) at a rate of approximately one a month, though I am at the point where I have enough Mercs to justify finishing one of the Valkyries off.
Also, I have yet to build enough terrain to play any games of Bolt Action 40K or Tommorows War 40K. I might need to remedy this

First match was alright, it'll take some getting used to but it is a fun enough game. The new guard FoC is weird, commanders without a command squad, still not sure what vox-casters do exactly, weapons I used to know by heart are now new and confusing... but I had a good time complaining about younglings and how we should go back to 5th edition fantasy with my opponent
