So, this past week, I've shrugged off painters block again, and picked up my Daemonkin. Stuck on MWG Index Chaos review and almost regained painters block, if not 40k block.... My KDK are no longer a faction... Cheers GW, you poo heads, you lied through your teeth... BUT THEN!I saw a glimmer of hope... Chaos undivided, also having a modest number of Ksons, I thought I was onto a win.... Until I found out what Marks do now...
All seemed lost, actually told the girlfriend I was through with 40k, she then told me off for wasting money on them.. Summary here, GW ruined part of my life...I had tattoo designs planned and everything... And then it happened.... I discovered the revised World Eaters.... Christ on a bicycle! The cqc capabilities here are enough to make Orks blush...The Zerkers AND Kharn attack TWICE each fight phase! This is pure Evil.... I'm yet to test the waters with 8th... And I'm not too keen on the huge overhaul..But it seems that for the first time in a long time, WE can hurt again Dave

Chaos were finally getting back into a good place at the end of 7th, with a bunch of pik'&'mix options for formations and fluffy themed choices. I'm almost afraid to look at 8th, and to be honest since I've still got 7th ed games lined up I haven't been planning to beyond reading through various praise and angst threads on dakka and the 8th thread here.
Dave, who are you likely to be playing? If they are buddies you can ask about just playing KDK in 7th, though it sounds like you want a taste of those 2X close combat phases now.
Right now I'm finishing up painting and modelling work on some of my Chaos formations for 7th games, so I'm building a bunch of vehicles for a Hellforged Warpack, the bikes and havocs I need to make a Warband, enough cultists to run a little force of the lost and the damned (that's already 40!) and I'm trying to fit in a plague colony both points and painting schedule since I realised I have 49 Plague Marines right now, so I could max it for the extra bonus.
One really nice thing about 8th for Nurgle is that the DI models are pretty tasty. That doesn't help a Khorne boy like you too much but GW have said they want to get 10 codex out pretty quickly and given how the story is going right now Chaos have a pretty good chance of being at least one and they should probably (maybe?) do some models that aren't Nurgle, though Slannesh is probably the most neglected god right now, with Khorne still being a little ahead.
The DI models are fantastic and GW seem to be doing some really Chaotic things with their 3D design and modern plastic techniques that is really letting them run wild with Chaos' theme so I'd hold on hope for future inspiration. The DI Plague Marines are mostly wearing modified Mk 3 armour that has been corrupted and in the case of the boss, really scaled up (dude is as big as a BR Warboss but with extra bulk), when new Berzerkers come there is a good chance that they'll also be drawing parts from whatever old armour suits them best and it will probably look really cool.
Of course if you it does leave you feeling super blue you can always go back to Crimson Fists as a stop gap.

It seems like 8th armies are much smaller - the vehicles are more expensive, in some cases ridiculously so, but the infantry and HQs seem a little cheaper. It feels like a 1500 point vehicle heavy army would be 1750 or 2k now. I still have to work out my 1750 Castellans IG/ Stormies mix from 7th to 8thy but I'm dreading working it out..
Managed to work out a decent looking Imp marine list but there are no transports, so I might add a couple of razorbacks and an assault squad in a drop pod to take it to 2k, points permitting.
I quite liked the Tzaangor models at the end of 7th, so I'm making a very sloooooooow warband.

I think my KSons stand at 4 sorcerers (one on a disc), 2 x 10 rubric marines, 5 scarab occult terminators and a hellbrute.... I'm considering stripping my warp talons for them too.. My 'World Eaters' are currently at: the DV Lord, 2x10 Zerkers, 2 Rhinos, a hellbrute and a daemon prince.... Old metal one that i'm converting, with wings from the newer kit... Think I paid £5 including postage He even comes with the 'hell Bolter' modeled in @empty.... Oh don't worry.... The fists won't be going unloved.... Command squads razorback is being painted in waves.. I just find blue harder to get right than red. Dave

The Khorne beserkers sound quite scary. Might have to soften them up a bit before sending the assault squad in ... For your fists are you sticking to old fashioned marines or getting the Primaris? Because they're bird brained? I liked the birdy look but it's more to do with having mutants and beastmen as a viable choice, like in the RT Imperial army, lost and the damned and the FW renegade lists. Imperial beastmen were borderline Khorne worshippers but they offered their skulls to the Emperor instead. I didn't make it a TSons list, the CSM were normal with a Mark of Tzeentch and the sorcerer is an Inquisitor model, so it's pure heresy. Oh, I'll have to take pics of some of the mutant CSM and cultists. Reason I haven't yet is that I didn't want any brains to explode because they look that weird and I still need to add milliput to the chest tentacle of the havoc leader. He has the same bird head as one of your spawn.

What 40k tatoo are you planning?

I'd hate to do that and then totally change my mind. e.g Oooh, lets have a large imperial eagle tattoo'd on my left arm, then 3 months later become a Khorne worshipper and literally tear your own arm out of it's socket because Khorne does the best tattoo removal ;_)

What 40k tatoo are you planning? I'm thinking about the spiked wheel on my ribs, with the four marks of each patron god surrounding. So today I have been doing some converting! Daemon princes look very competative this edition, especially with wings! Out of cash for ten days, but, on the 28th, i'm going to pick up a set of wings off Ebay and get him all Badass and stuff... At which point, I'll be one troop choice short of a battalion.... Pretty good going thus far I think... Seeing as i'm thinking of grabbing another DV set off the net... Maybe a limited edition... Just so I have the DA chaplain

Also thinking of donating the DA (minus the chaplain) to a friend who is employmentaly challenged. He loves looking at my mini's when he's around mine... He's shown real enthusiasm... He even gets stoned and asks me to talk about the Horus heresy and the war in the heavens and stuff... I mean like real enthusiasm.. He asks me to tell him more off his own initiative.... The force is strong in this one.... Also means fodder, another Khorne Loadout helbrute and the chosen, which could potentially add more mid-range heavy fire power synergy to my army... And if he wants further expansion, I wouldn't turn my nose up at putting half for the new death guard models

Chaos cultists are awesome in 7th edition if you use the formations. If they die then they can get replaced by an identical unit that gets put in reserve on a 4+, with MoN they are T4 and Death guard formations they get the cloud of flies Stealth bonus. In terms of equipment they don't have much choice, or any AT but you can go either full on zombie with Typhus or CC mad with autopistol/ cc

You don't get the MoN T4 as an option or the flies though.
